Thank you!! This tutorial worked great for my ECP3420 model. A couple notes: removing the clamp that holds the hose in place and attaching the plastic piece onto the new steam wand were much harder than it looks in the video. Don't be surprised if it takes a bit of elbow grease to complete those steps! It's well worth it though! The new steam wand is a large improvement over the one that comes with the machine. Thank you for putting together such a detailed tutorial!
Thank you so much for the tutorial, just did it for my ECP33.21. 2 tips for others, tested it myself. 1) when installing back the rubber holder at 16:00, do put some water on the steam wand itself for ease of installation. 2) at 16:30, do use the pipe leak tape to prevent steam from escaping. Thank you!
I just used this excellent tutorial to do the mod on an ECP3420. It was nearly identical -- the only two differences being that the 3420 has a nylon braid covered hose instead of the clear plastic hose in the model in this video, and the clip holding the hose onto the steam wand is not reusable on the 3420 as it is with the model in the video. The one in the video is a spring type while the 3420 has a clamp that might be reusable if you put a lot of work in with some fine needle-nose pliers but I didn't find that to be worth the effort when I was able to go buy a 3/8" spring clamp from Napa up the street for 39 cents. You can also get these at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and probably every auto parts store. Get the 3/8" if you need one. I might have preferred the plastic hose because this very rigid braided hose doesn't allow the steam wand to be easily movable. It wants to be in one place and the hose doesn't move as you rotate it so I keep feeling like I'm at risk of dislodging the hose as I swivel it -- therefore I try not to move it. I may go back and replace that hose with a more flexible one. Also, as shannong notes below, some steps are much harder than they appear in the video. It wasn't easy to get the hose off the original steam wand. Most of all, getting the white plastic piece off the old steam wand was pretty difficult and I absolutely struggled to get it onto the new one without damaging anything. I guess my hands aren't strong enough because I couldn't twist it on as you see in the video so I was stuck trying to use pliers but trying not to damage the piece -- not at all easy. It took a while and a lot of work. Make sure you put the rubber thing back on the elbow of the new wand. You'll need it because it gets VERY VERY HOT. You will burn yourself on it if you aren't careful. It gets so hot that I can't steam milk without the milk baking itself onto the wand before I'm done, though having a clean wet cloth handy to IMMEDIATELY wipe after steaming is essential otherwise you'll be scraping it if you wait even a minute. And don't use a paper towel, especially not a dry one. The first one I tried just shredded itself and stuck to the milk and became part of the mess I had to clean off. I'm still figuring out technique for steaming properly for latte art, which is harder than it looks. This wand mounts so that it's nearly vertical but most of the machines in the videos have wands that are at more of an angle so that the "whirlpool" can be established easily. Maybe I'll try bending the wand carefully so that it's at more of an angle. Has anybody else angled their wand differently or am I just missing a technique for using it when it's almost straight down?
Has your upgrade of this new wand come apart with use? The PEX clamp on the ECP3420 that it comes with stock is difficult to re-use and must be replaced with a new one and you need a special tool to do it. Just curious if your spring clamp has come undone inside the unit? Mine has come undone and sprays water on the inside of the unit however I used a stainless steel hose clamp. The problem with the Rancilio Silva wand is that it doesn't extend far enough into the unit as does the original wand when you put them side by side.
@@dr.j7912 I noticed the same issue with the Rancilio Silva wand. I decided to just go back to the stock wand rather than have it come loose and spray inside everywhere.
Hi Chris, I want to replace the steam wand on my delonghi COM530 (All in one machine) and am running into the same issue. The hose is a red braided hose and the clamps are PEX clamps. Do you know if the Rancilio wand will work on my machine? And do you still have any problems with the upgraded wand?
Hey guys, thanks for the above tips, I just replaced my steam wand on ECP3420. It almost took me an hour but the upgrade was totally worth it. So regarding the hose clamp, I used two zip ties to tighten up the hose and there are no issues so far. There is one comment down below that mentioned to use the table as a leverage to push the while wand stopper through up and same for the black rubber.
Just completed this replacement on my ECP3420. To make it easier to place the plastic ball onto the new wand you can use some light heat applied from a heat gun or the stovetop. Carefully heating the wand and plastic assembly helps to soften the plastic and make it easier to be push around the new wand curves.
This worked on my ECP 3420, the pipe clamp was different though, and couldn't be reused so I had to purchase some from the hardware store. I found it a lot easier to get the plastic piece onto the steam wand by pushing it against the lip of a table. The rotating and using only finger strength was too difficult for me lol. Thanks for making this tutorial!
Looking how easily that guy disassembles the wand and puts off and on that plastic stopper (a half-spheric one) makes me feel so weak lmao. It was a LOT harder to do the same with my machine and steamer. I think it's mainly because I've used a different steamer as replacement. I even had to use a pliers and flat screwdriver as a leverage to put that stopper on my steamer. Anyways, thanks a lot, this video was a great help for me.
Thank you - this worked for me on the same model. Be careful not to drop a screw inside the machine. There's a hole in the floor and they fall through into the base and you can't easily get them out. The base comes off but it's held on with security screws. I also found that once I'd pushed the plastic support onto the new wand it was too lose to grip the wand tightly so when you rotated the wand it wouldn't stay put. It should be a tight fit on the plastic so when you rotate the wand the plastic piece moves with it and that creates the friction to stay in place. I made a little shim out of a piece of a beer can (had to drink the beer first) and squeeze it in between the wand and the plastic. The new wand works much better; I still need more practice though.
First of all, this is an interesting Video. I am using ESP 31.21 for 3 years, I think it is same as ESP 32.21. This machine has a small kettle, so its amount of hot water for making coffee or steam for whipping milk is less compared to higher-end machines. With a limited budget, it is recommended to invest in an Espresso grinder and use a single filter basket without pressure (9g), you will be able to make a 1:3 cup of Espresso coffee in 25-30 seconds. (Because my English is not good, thanks to Google translate)
Thank you, thank you and thank you so much for this video. It took me almost an hour to do this on my ECP3420 but the upgrade was totally worth the time.
Fantastic video! Used it as a distant reference to replace the steam wand on my Delonghi Icona E310. Definitely not something I would recommend, even though I macgyvered the crap out of it.
Thanks for the video, I'm between different machines and one of them is 35.31, so your video is helpful if you want to change the steam wand. Attention! Did you forget to put back the little stopper clip?
You think a zip tie is enough to secure the tube to the wand ? Mine model is a little bit different, but the structure are the same. The knot of this model is different than what ur model has. I broke it. It costs $2 for replacement but shipping cost = $8 :P
Thanks For this but damn it was so hard to remove the pipe and put the plastic thing. Thought it was easy looking you ah ah. Everything work well though, now next step is to reach to froth milk correctly. Update reach to create foam, there is a world between before and after taste and look absolutely different (not this porous aspect after some moments)
I did this for my 33.21 machine and I notice 2 things: 1. Noise is very loud in the pitcher while you are steaming the milk. It makes an unpleasant, loud, screaming sound. 2. My milk doesn't froth as with the old wand. It makes the milk hot but the milk is still very liquid. Almost no creamy texture. No foam like in the old one. The old one made different milk structure in the same amount of time. I tried different positions & angles of the wand but the milk just stays liquid and super hot. I will try some other milk and some other wand positions, but I am not satisfied after the first run. Do you have any advice how to make it work properly? Thank you.
Hi ..with this steam tip...I need a bit practice to get a good milk texture... start froth the milk with the tip just at the surface of the milk and try first to get foam..let the tip in the position and no need to drawn in to the milk...just position it until the milk swirling and rotating ...stop after the temperature just too hot to touch ..about 60 degree c
@@Indohomebarista Thank you for your reply. I will try to do it like you said. One more question: with my Rancilio steam wand I got 2 type of steam wand heads: with 1 hole & with 3 holes. Did you have the same? If yes, which one would you recommend to use?
Ep 3240 I had been open and closes it like 2 / 3 time , while i did not put the horse tight enough, and i twice the steamer and it just split up, i had to open again to check it up , what's going on inside. 1. Be careful with every single pieces, one of my peace fell inside the another side of the water tank , it take me a lot of time to take it out, so if you see some pieces could take apart, take it up and separate it. 2. The click horse it is hard to open it. 3. The cap of the horse it is so hard to twist up, i am a girl i have no much strength. 4. You have to very make sure it is tight enough the horse and the steamer, to avoid do the work again and again .
Hi I prefer blended robusta and arabica for my espresso drink...the blend ratio can be 50 to 50 or 70 robusta 30 arabica...perfect taste for me...use always fresh bean
@@Indohomebarista Same with me. I tried without first, thinking maybe it's not necessary, but a lot of steam / water comes out of the threads so a very short piece of narrow plumbing thread tape is a good idea. That can be bought at any hardware store for very little money for a tiny container.
my machine doesnt produce coffee anymore. i descaled it and even opened it up like your previous video. it drips a lik bit of coffee but drips water everywhere. any idea on what i should do?
I am sorry to hear about your machine ...but you need to identify from which part the water start leaking and try to eliminate it ...it probably because of any loosen connection or leak from the porta filter gasket..I have my other machine have the fitting damage and need to replace it..
Hi. May i know what is the ITEM CODE of the wand did you use as replacement, and what ml/oz of the milk jug you used. Hope you can help me, cause im planning to change my wand using your video. Thank youuu.
That steam wand is actually made for Rancillio silvia in the shop ..you can search for that.. I used 350 ml milk jug..this size is perfect for this machine. :-)
Apakah porta dalam kondisi tanpa kopi pas gak bisa di lurusin?..mungkin karet sealnya memang masih tebel original...setelah pemakaian lama kelamaan akan longgar bro.. Yang penting tidak bocor
@@Indohomebarista I’ve found this one that’s looks like the one you have. Do you know if the one you have fits Rancilio Silvia (V1/V2)? Rancilio Silvia (V1/V2) Steam Wand www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00K49GMMW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_3GHH9K9RXWPN525G99HZ
@@gianlucacivichino6104 when I see the type of the machine it looks so similar with the model I have ...I believe for the steam wand model also the same
