I too have taken his armorers course in 2019, Chad is a beast!!!! I first found out of his SOTARacha back in 2017 when I just happened to search on youtube for AR lubricants, I've been using it ever since, and it goes on my 3 Gun AR competition gun that actually got me 4th place in 2019 at the Texas 3 gun championships at Triple C range.
@@SkipsTacticalSolutions thank you for sharing this video, it really is a money saver 🙌. With all due respect, does it really take an hour to make the grease?
I reduced the amount of grease, and added a bottle of 3n1. You can also use Barricade by Birchwood Casey. This will be helpful as a rust inhibitor. One other suggestion. Use a motor oil that specifically is labeled as detergent free. Standard oil picks up particles to be filtered by an oil filter. Detergent helps do that. You want particles to be repelled. That's why machinists don't use standard motor oil for their machines.
Use tungsten disulfide (Ws2)! Dry powder, slipperiest thing on the planet, sheds carbon, bonds to metal by rubbing it on, doesn't attract dirt, doesn't come off, withstands 100,000 lbs. of force, eliminates wear. I run my guns dry with NO problems or signs of wear. Better than oil (oil attracts dirt) but if you are worried of what I say, Ws2 also blends well with oil and can be used together. I've been using it in my car's engine oil for 12 years and the engine is like brand new (no wear!!). Nasa uses Tungsten disulfide (Ws2) on the Mars rover. Great for guns! I use a short bristle 1/4 in. paint brush and a q tip to rub it on.
Good stuff. I have just always done 2/3 Mobil 1 5w-30 to 1/3 ATF for gun oil. For cleaning I use equal parts, ATF, Kerosene and odorless mineral spirits. I always use Remoil or Hoppes oil (mineral oil) on a cotton cloth for exterior protection.
SOTAR alum here. Great vid. 👍 I use 5W30 Royal Purple oil & Mobil 1 Synthetic red grease 🏆 Unless it's winter then I just soak my BCG in RP5W30 because the grease gets very thick & sticky below 40 degress. Pre SOTAR I learned from old timers decades ago at my 1st nra highpower match that soaking the carrier in oil helps ensure reliable function. The sotaracha style mix aids in the ability to wipe off carbon very easy making cleaning & relubing quicker.
Thanks for the video! I have also watched Chad's a while back. I need to mix up some of this lube to go along with my favorite gun cleaning solvent...Ed's Red. There is so much "snake oil" gun cleaning / lubricating stuff out there, some of it is good, and some not so good, but I prefer to just make my own. Now I can make my own lube.
Engines are closed systems with pumps, sumps, and filters. Guns are open systems where using grease has advantages over just oil. Guns will run fine on oil, you just have to lube them more frequently.
Chad had this recipe on his channel and I actually used it to make up some of this stuff the other night. Not sure how well I'm going to like it. I will make that decision after I put some ammo down range. I even slathered up the BCG and charging handle like he did. Finally, yeah don't have this stuff anywhere near the kids or the kitchen lest some hapless individual lubes up his hamburger with it!
You didn't overfill the squeeze bottles and get it all over the outside of the bottles, or the table. Because that's what I would've done. Thanks for posting. :)
😂 I'm surprised that I didn't make a mess because that's what I expected to do since the camera was recording me. It would of made for better footage. Thank you for checking out the video! 😊
5 quarts of oil! I hope you can use most of it in your car. Frankly, the only lube anyone needs is the syn motor oil and one quart will last most a lifetime.
I'm a real one, but not as thoughtful as you. I put the oil and grease in a bottle, then shook the life out of it. Doesn't work to well this way. Your way is definitely the way to go.
Well, graphite under certain conditions like the use of a lubricant containing graphite where aluminum contacts with steel, you may risk galvanic corrosion to occur. Especially around marine environments (chloride ions). So as a general rule, I personally avoid it where aluminum meets steel. Anodized aluminum will slow the process for a while but eventually it may corrode under certain conditions. I also try to avoid alkali or ammonia based cleaning products (bore cleaners, windex, etc) that may contact aluminum as it can damage the finish or even corrode it over time. Some people don’t have any issues with it, but that’s my take anyway…
@@SkipsTacticalSolutions👁👁👍💥 I've heard about what your are doing in the video before. So , anything that can enhance personnel survival...I am all in. I am well thank you , So far so good.💥
@@paulbaerwald8055 Use grease where you need grease. use oil where you need oil. That supertech synthetic is good enough oil for the oil applications. She references colder climates and oil weights, then mixes stuff up completing obliterating her point. This is just stupid all the way around. Use what you want, I dont care, but doesnt change the FACT this is dumb.
@@SkipsTacticalSolutions this could mean nothing at all but I reside in Florida and have never had any issues with rust or firearm malfunctions. I train, clean then store.
