Homelander is that one Villain that you always get so excited to see in every scene, and just watching him being Homelander is absolutely a breath of fresh air

This depicts who Homelander is deep down. A scared little child who acts like the big bully and does anything to be loved and commits unspeakable acts to keep people beneath him.

The thing I’ve always liked about Homelander’s character is that he likely would’ve turned out much differently had he been given a proper childhood and grew up under the care of loving parents instead of in a lab run by Vought scientists. There are little moments that shine through where you actually feel sorry for him a little bit. He could’ve been caring like Starlight or more Superman-like. That’s partly the reason he wants to be loved by people and so desperately seeks attention and approval. While it doesn’t excuse his actions and behavior, it really provides some insight as to why he is the way he is. He is as they made him. At the end of the day, Vought screwed him the same way they screwed everyone else. The best villains are the ones that you understand and can relate to rather than being just comically evil for no reason. Such a great, well written character and amazing performance by Antony Starr.

I love that Homelander isn't just "Superman but evil", or just evil round the clock. He's a despicable person, but moments like this do actually make you feel bad for the guy. His life has been horrible, he's had no real family or friends, and nobody really likes him or values him outside of his abilities or getting some kind of benefit from him. He's absolutely miserable. It doesn't excuse the awful things he does, but kind of like Joaqin Phoenix's Joker, it shows some insight as to how someone's traumatic experiences can push someone to do heinous things.

This scene alone should ensure that Antony Starr is awarded the Emmy this year. Calling him fantastic is an understatement. The man owns every scene and elevates the entire series.

Character is so well acted that even though he is a monster I felt sorry for him when he was held down by Butcher, SB and Hughie. And that roar before he escaped just ugh...incredible

I never knew of Anthony Starr until the boys. How this guy hasn't gotten any big gigs is beyond me because this lad can act his socks off. He's utterly brilliant!!

This scene is so interesting because Homelander basically has no one to talk to or go to about his feelings but himself, he's alone. This is also like a self soothing tendency for him.

That deadpan "Lot to unpack there" delivery from Jack Quiad is really funny

This is totally homage to Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. The two distinct personalities with their own vocal differences. The choice of vocabulary, the ruggedness in his voice, the way he says SAY IT. It’s all a perfect recreation of a classic performance by a man that deserves a freaking award for his role in The Boys. He is the show.

This is the only time I've actually felt bad for Homelander. Hearing him call it "the bad room" made my heart hurt.

The way he says “SAY IT!” reminded me of how Two-Face said it in The Dark Knight.

I love how Homelander has convinced himself that wanting approval, love, and parents is a human trait in order to rationalize him not having those things.

The most disturbing part is that the alter ego references his childhood. Who knows for how long he’s had this “pep talks”, without anyone (including us) knowing?

The thing I love about homelander’s character is that he is basically superman except he was raised in a cold lab, where he was taught to be a brand for a company instead of being raised by two loving parents to teach him the value of life.

The little moment of clarity before he shut himself in again shows just how tragic Homie is. He just wants to be loved, but his trauma is overpowering his compassion and his heart.

“Why do you keep running into the same brick wall?” That line was the perfect setup for the “still human” reveal, seeing as though Homelander someone who is “not human” can tear brick walls like paper.

Makes you remember Green Goblin...the way Osborne talked to himself in the mirror... shivered

How can you not love this? If this doesn't take an Emmy, then the Emmy ain't worth shit.

While I think he is already too much of a monster to be “redeemed” or anything close, moments like this really manage to evoke sympathy for someone so despicable. Deep down, he wants genuine connections to others (a shame that being raised in horrible conditions turned him into a psychopath).

He definitely gives off Green Goblin vibes. When he said “Say It” I instantly thought of Harvey Dent when he’s talking to Gordon in the Hospital(The Dark Knight).

One thing I love is how Soldier Boy is giving his big "Everyone is so soft/Things were better in my day" speech while a Geiger counter is going off, as if to say SB's way of thinking is very toxic for everyone around him

This is 100% a homage to Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and I love it.

I think this shows one of the best versions of narcissism and ego in this show. He says"you're the top of the food chain"to himself seeing himself in the mirror. "When we were kids, alone in the room, i got us through it right?" This is his ego showing by having himself say it to him when he sees himself in the mirror. This is all in his mind and if another character were to walk in they would just see homelander talkin to himself to the mirror. He cares about no one but himself, he loves only himself, therefore he sees himself only and gives motivational talks to himself.

Some people are born for some roles.. For Anthony This is it... Like RDJ for Iron man, Henry for supmam
