Homemade Dog Food for Hip and Joint Health 

Purified water is the best arthritis treatment you can give any animal. The reason (some/most animals) get arthritis in the first place is the build up from tap water or the contaminants in bottled water or filtered water that comes from the fridge - as those refrigerator dispensers don’t filter out chlorine and fluoride. It’s the same thing that causes mouth and artery plaque in humans. Animals cannot process the chlorine and fluoride in the tap water. It also builds up in their system and causes lipomas and then cancer. I gave my cats purified drinking water (water that reads as close to zero as possible - not most bottled waters as they have more than 10ppm and anything over 10ppm just isn’t good for you) and they made this amazing comeback. My cats are 13 and were not even jumping far distances anymore. They are doing things I haven’t seen them do since they were little. They are getting along now for the first time in years. They aren’t lashing out at me. They are gaining healthy weight. If your animal drinks tap water and has arthritis, cancer, lipomas, anger issues, glaucoma, dandruff, smells bad, has cystitis, stomach issues or any other random health issue that makes no sense, it is most likely the tap water causing it. It is truly worth it to buy purified water for less than a dollar a gallon. Or, if you can afford it it’s worth it to buy a whole house filtration system. I also stopped drinking tap water and I am actually in good health for the first time in 4 years. I didn’t realize that the tap water was causing gut microbiome issues, an infection, anemia that would not go away, mouth plaque, parasites that would not go away (a healthy body with all its vitamins will naturally flush out parasites just in case you wanted to know this) artery plaque build-up, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism and some other issues. Sorry to drone on but I just wanted you all to have this information in case you want to try. It’s so horrific to watch pets suffer and this is a simple easy way to give them the best. You can go on any site like Lowe’s and purchase your own TDS meter to test the water at your house yourself. They are less than 20 dollars and are fun to work with. To give you an idea about the ppm counts: I was drinking water that I didn’t realize wasn’t purified and when I tested it, it was 47ppm. It was keeping me sick for a week. I believe anything over 10ppm isn’t healthy. It should take anywhere from 7-90 days for your pet to flush all the toxins out if the water is causing their malady. Maybe longer. And at least 120 days, up to 6 months or a year for humans to recover but I have only been drinking the purified water for a month and have already seen incredible results in my own health. Well Done!!! I will try this... I have 4 dogs so i may cook this up and share it over their regular food. Then make more! I think it would be difficult to make homemade dog food to fully replace all nom noms. Have you done a video on how to cook for big or many dog households?! I have seen a guy do a raw food video to many big dogs and he has to freeze portions and do a big weekend of cooking. It is a challenge for multi dog house holds.

Made this for my old dog I thought I was going to have to put down. He started jumping around! I now give him some anti- inflammatory mixed into it. It's winter so it's not helping as much as in the warmer weather. Might start a pain med next to see if it helps him through the winter.

I know this was 5 years ago, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much food this recipe makes? My dog weighs the same amount (75 pounds), so I know it need to feed between 1.5 and 2 cups per meal, but how many meals will I get with the recipe? Am I going to need to make it daily? Thank you!!

What about ground beef?

Our doggie is 100lb. Based on your recommendation he should get 4 cups a day. What results would you expect if we mixed 2 cups a day with 2 cups of his dog food a day. Curious how you got to the serving size requirements. Either way my dog is loving the recipe.

Wouldn’t the cranberries stick to their tooth and cause cavities? Is there a substitute?

I don't know where on earth you got the idea that garlic in any dose is safe for dogs. It is not. And Barley, rice and oats are grains. Grains are a source of inflammation and can exacerbate arthritis symptoms. Other than that, this looks pretty good. I'd lose the garlic and the grains, and throw in some turmeric. I'd double the turkey, and MAAAYBE halve the brown rice.

Why everybody is saying Garlic is toxic to dogs, i saw some dog vitamins with garlic, another vets say garlic is good. IM CONFUSED.... My dog eatS garlic hes 10 years old now. Still alive and kicking.

So why did you not at as much meat?

BE CAREFUL! --- Fresh and Dry equal herb measurements are vastly different!! A general rule of thumb for the dried-to-fresh herb ratio: Use one-third the amount of dried herb for the fresh herb. So... the 1 cup of DRIED NETTLE here would most likely be TOO MUCH for the dog! ALSO your protein should be the largest percentage of the food, but not so in this recipe.

...... Dried cranberries contain high amounts of sugar, which is essentially unnecessary for your dog and contains no structural value to your dogs diet. You’re also wrong about garlic but what do I know, I just worked as a vet tech for four years.
