Great Video! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Parlandealey Pets Yummy Process (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good one of a kind product for discovering healthy recipes for dog food minus the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my GF finally got cool results with it.
So I just did a lot of calculations. But I'm coming up with this being around 1230 k/cals TOTAL. I estimated this being right under 3.5cups. Meaning this is right over 350K/cal per cup. I would have to feed my 60lb Malinois about 5 cups of this a day. My 60lb German Shepherd about 3.6 cups a day, and my 15lb spaniel about 1.3 cups a day. Hope that info helps someone else!
Are your Malinois and German shepherd getting a different serving amount because the Malinois is more active and requiring more calories? Asking just because I have a Malinois, DDR shepherd and an Aussie all weight 60-65 lbs
this has been years coming. I'm from the era of 2008 just past the giant callback nightmare. The vets are awful about owners trying to make their own food. Just give us frigging guidelines. We're not all stupid. We can make it work.
@@cameronwilson4782 very true great point. I cook both my siberians their food. It is time consuming. I cook 8 days worth of food at a time and it takes 5 hrs or so. I boil and pick chicken for them most of the time. I brought at the time my siberian who was 10 and a half at the time. Hes 11 and 6 months now. The vet asked what I was feeding him. I told her I cook his food and told her everything I did. She told me how he didn't look or act his age. And told me to keep doing it. She was a very honest vet. Unfortunately she passed 8 months ago. God bless and rest in peace Dr Theresa marshal
Just swap out the beef occasionally with ground turkey. And as the recipe states, you can swap out the cod liver oil for canned sardines (packed in water only). This channel also has a video showing what veggies are good for dogs.
Ohh I use sardines that have been packed in olive oil then again I buy Tika dog food sardines already a balanced food from a factory where they prepare human food.
I recommend to cook the eggshell for about 20-30 mins at 300-350 F (perhaps while you cook something else), and then grind it. You will get calcium that is more digestible.
Eggshells are also a great suppliment for people. One eggshell a day gives 100% of the daily requirement. I put them in my smoothie if I see I haven't gotten enough calcium. Tastes like you have sand in your smoothie, but it works!
I make this every two weeks. Easy and healthy. Three tablespoons of ingredients rolled into wiener shape(thicker). Place in individual snack bags, freeze, and remove 1 pkg. in the evening, let thaw overnight, give half for breakfast and half dinner. I also make fresh rice and give about heaping tablespoon to meal. Thanks for video, my dog skin has improved! Has 95% stopped licking and chewing areas on her paws, butt, and belly. You saved not only my dogs skin integrity, but taking to vet, for allergies. She’s like a different dog. Afterthought: I serve meat raw with a little cooked rice, and my Maltese loves it. 😋 I also, as a treat..par boil (4min) beef ribs, when cooled, I cut most of the meat away from bone. Freeze meat for a snack. Freeze bones, and give as a snack (keeps tartar from teeth, and breath pleasant). This way I know what I’m giving my dog. My dog mostly stays on sofa, so when she has a bone 🦴 I spread small towel down and there’s no soiling sofa. When she has removed all the meat from bone, and has stopped enjoying, i toss bone in trash and place towel in laundry basket. When she see me spreading towel on sofa, she is so excited.
I've been making homemade food for my dogs and cats for 6+ years. My cats have been eating raw but I've always cooked the dog's food in my pressure cooker, and fed supplements as well. I tried this recipe today using ground turkey and served it raw. My dog flipped for this recipe! He loves it! Will definitely be making it again and again using different meats/veggie combos. Thanks for keeping it simple. :)
6 week UPDATE: My dog loves this stuff!! I make a triple batch every 3 days, my dog is 100lbs. so 1 batch is one meal. I change out the meats every other batch: beef & turkey, and occasionally chicken, but not as often as the other meats. I also rotate different veggie combos, adding equal amounts of each: brussel sprouts, broccoli, kale, spinach, red bell peppers, or on occasion, frozen peas. My dog's itchy, allergy skin is at least 90% better! He's gone from constantly itching and scratching to the point of biting himself, to hardly any scratching at all. I couldn't be more thrilled!! His skin has cleared up and his fur has filled back in. He's also lost a few extra pounds. I'll be making this recipe for the foreseeable future!
2020 and I am eternally grateful that I found this video. I started to cook for my dog after watching a few videos on this channel. I now cook for him once a week and he is thriving. Thank you.

@@rylandpeters8982 I have a medium size dog (Bichon), and I get about 4 to 6 servings with this size receipe. I imagine if your dog is bigger (more hungry), it could be less.
We have a chiua wa wa? with liver problems. our vet has her on Hills prescription diet. mostly grains that she doesn't eat now. I'm going to try this out. Thanks so much.
I multiplied this recipe by 1.5 (I happened to have 21oz of ground beef). It came out to just over 4 packed cups. My lean, 35lb dog seems to like 1 cup/meal. This averaged about $4 meal for her. She was not really into the raw version, but inhales it when it is lightly cooked and served at room temp (she is definitely a picky eater- she will let her dry kibble sit all day, and won't touch it until she has run around and works up a serious appetite.) We will try raw again, but for now, we think cooked is better than not at all. We are shooting to filter in this meal every other night, and see if it is something we can provide every meal down the road. Baby steps. She is happy, though, and we are so delighted to see her love her food for once!!
I have a maltese and chiahuahua. I made this and they loved it! I have been feeding homecook dog food for 4 years now. I wasn''t too far off from this recipe. My dogs don't go to the vet. They are very healthy ! This recipe is a keeper. I cook the meat then shut the heat off and add in the veggies, egg & shell and sardines then when cool I add in the hemp, kelp . I serve this with nurpro on top. and omega 3, 6 oil.
I realize you've been told a million times by so many how wonderful you are but I'm going to say it anyway.... YOU ARE AMAZING! I have learned so much from you. I felt so lost and overwhelmed before I found you, Dogs Naturally and everyone else in your circle. You are all heaven sent as far as I am concerned. Thank you for all the things you share with us. Titan & his human simply can't thank you enough!
Thank you so much for this recipe. I've been looking for ways to feed homemade food for my dog and there are so many nutritionally unbalanced recipes on the internet, but this one is easy and well-balanced. All the ingredients are easy to buy, too. My dog loved it. Thanks again!
My Shih Tzu puppy has been very finicky about her food. She would either pick at what I gave her or not eat at all. I did have some success giving her a treat if she ate all her food. I also tried the more expensive varieties of dog food to no avail. This recipe seemed easy enough so I tried it. Happy to say how fast my puppy switched with little to no side effects. She now eats without hesitation and I feel good that I am giving her quality food. She has a lot more energy and plays so much more than before the diet change. Her poops are smaller and they don't smell as bad . . .another bonus! Thanks for posting this video!
@@jessicaschrier7136 Is the measurement for the raw diet alone or added with puppy kibble? I ask because I was told to feed my pup 3 meals a day, so I’m wondering if that would be enough.
I know this is an old comment and your puppy must now be, 2 years old or so. Lol But from what I understood she only fed the her puppy the food from the video, no kibble. She fed the amount of raw/gently cooked food appropriate for the life stage and weight of her dog. Since I will now try this recipe, I think I’ll follow the general instructions and guidelines of the right feeding amount, from a store bought raw or gently cooked product, that feels trustworthy, together with the recommendation of my puppy’s, veterinarian. Hope this helps.🥰 @shrinkingshea1703
I made this tonight and it was very easy to make. A tip for others--- my grocery doesn't always have fresh beef liver but I can always find it at that same store in the freezer section. And I had to buy the kelp powder in capsules, which I pulled apart, but at least it's 100% kelp. All 4 of my little dogs liked it (mixed in with their normal food, to transition slowly onto this). Thank you!
Thank you so much for this recipe, this is what I have been hoping for. I had always wanted to make my own healthy dog food but didn’t know if I would be giving them all the nutrients that they needed. This is so simple and pretty much have all the ingredients. You made my dogs very happy and again thank you for all your knowledge and sharing it with us.
Thank you! This is exactly what I've been looking for. I've ordered Dr Becker's book (along with Steve Brown's two books) but they haven't arrived yet. Right now our dog gets mostly home-cooked food with a little bit of kibble (Acana brand). I'm going to transition her to raw and will used this recipe to start off slowly. In a different video Dr Becker said to give the raw food as a treat for a day and increase the amount given, as treats, for a couple of days. If her poop is good after a few days of raw treats, give the raw as one meal (keeping the other meal for that day what she's been eating). If after a few days of one raw meal/day her poop is still good discontinue the old food and go 100% raw. I have heard others say that adult, raw feed dogs should only eat one meal per day but I've never heard it from what I consider a trusted source. Our vet agreed with me home-cooking for our dog when I sent my "recipe" to a vet school for nutritional analysis but I don't think she's as happy about raw feeding so I probably won't ask her. What do you think, Rodney? By the way, I found out about you through Kimberly Gauthiere.
I've been making this with my mom for almost a year for our dog. At first, I posted the recipe on a Facebook group for raw feeding and they told me I wasn't feeding him a balanced recipe because it didn't have organ meats in it. I didn't listen because hey, this recipe is from DOCTOR Becker, so I trust it's balanced. Teddy loves this recipe a lot. We started giving him this recipe at night and a human grade canned food in the morning and he definitely likes the homemade food more. My dad got a variety pack of the canned food so we can find out what flavors he likes best. Thanks for this easy balanced recipe, Dr. Becker! We'll keep using it as long as possible!
This recipie is great but in long term it wont be enough Protein rotation is also very important my 2 poodles eat a wide variety of meat Rabbit , chicken , turkey , lamb , goat , quail , venison .etc I do reccomend add organ . DM me for more info @queen.n.princethepoodles
Appreciate Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Parlandealey Pets Yummy Process (should be on google have a look)? It is a good one off product for discovering healthy recipes for dog food without the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy finally got great success with it.
If you search Dr Karen Becker on You Tube you will find many of her videos. I just watched “ 3 Pillars of Health” webinar and she specifically addressed Vitamin D there, but likely in other videos too.
Aaaaaaaah this recipe is the best!! I did so much research and it was just so confusing, but this is so easy and I am so excited to feed the puppy recipe to my little man when I get him soon!!! 😊 Edit: ok wait... where is the puppy recipe it’s been three years 😩
Excellent! I'm getting these ingredients tomorrow! I have been making my Shih Tzu's food for the past few days, but worried about getting it balanced! She will be 11 next year, and is just recovering (again), from a bacterial skin infection! Too many ear infections to count, allergy shots, steriods, and every commercial dog food you can name (from the Vet)! I've had enough, as has my poor doggie! Making her food from here on in, and I will use this recipe! Thankyou!
Hey, my dog had crazy skin issues and stuff -- just terrible. Then, I quit giving ANYTHING that was not home-made. And, everything (PROMISE YOU) stopped. It was like a miracle. No joke. I wasted tons of money then found out it was a CHICKEN ALLERGY. And, my fur babie loved Chicken, so I made her Georgia Meatloaf. And, they go APE-SHIT for this stuff ... It's cheap & easy & on YT ... Hope that helps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CFrXiuiplDE.html
I love that you ended with noting that you can always do organic or non gmo stuff and that's great, but "do your best, whatever you can do, do it"... that's really nice to hear. We are doing the best we can with the diet we are cooking for Ivar:)
Great recipe for beginners that will serve old pros and their pets well too. The only thing I would add is that, if you can get your hands on grass-fed and grass-finished beef burger, you don't have to add Omega-3 oils, because grass-fed and grass-finished red meats already have Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids in the 50-50 ratio that seems to be ideal for both humans as well as carnivorous pets. Even Walmart and Aldi now carry such beef. Some of it is also organic-certified. I do like the idea of dog food that is perfectly safe for people to eat. Let's face it, if you buy a can or bag of dog food, and it's so disgusting that you'd have to hold your nose to try some, you don't want to kill your dogs with such slop, either. And you certainly don't want any children or elderly dementia patients ingesting it.
Thank you for this video!!! We've been feeding this to our dogs since nov last year and mixing it up with different meats , and they have been doing great!
My thoughts 💭 exactly 😊👍🏼 @NaomiStockley I rewatched the video thinking I missed the portion part, but no. I still feel a bit 😬 anxious because idk how much to give each one of my dogs. I have 4, all of which are of varying breeds, weight, and activity level. Everything from a 5lb’er to an 85lb GSD. Sooo…. 🤷🏻♀️ do I have to wait until the book comes out in October???? (Already purchased, can’t wait to get my hands on it!!!) I think for now, I’ll give them all a bit as more of a topper until I can figure out the portion each pup should have. @RodneyHabibPlanetPaws
My little Shitsu/Pekingese went wild for this!! She absolutely scarfed it down and wanted more! Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!! The second time I made it I used turkey and she LOVES IT!!
Jennifer Jones start feeding her a large fallopian of puréed canned pumpkin with every meal ASAP for stomach issues. Balances them out immediately. Not pumpkin pie mix btw. For uti prevention do u-tract complex from progressive labs to prevent utis.
I been feeding my dog dry dog food for years and am beginning to wonder if it took a toll on my dogs health. Now he is 12 years old and he does not want to eat any dry dog food at all no matter what brand it is. It started two days ago his complete discontent for dry dog food. I got some cooked chicken to see if he eat it, and he ate it up so the dog has appetite ,but only for real food not dried dog food. So after watching your video along with several other videos I probably will try to make him fresh dog food. I am hopping along with improving his appetite that the dogs health will improve. I should have done this years ago. I think there is some kind of misconception that dog food should be produced by corporations, because they know better then the average dog owner. I even watched a documentary on dry dog food, and basically in this documentary dogs are not meant to eat dry dog food ,and that it effects there health in the long run. I do not know, I am not an expert, or do I claim to be one .I do know that if the dog does not like dry dog food, and they become more lethargic and tend to have health issues then I begin to question dry dog food(I have bought expensive brand dog foods ). I think as consumers we tend to trust corporations to much when it comes to many important things, including food for ourselves and our pets. Thanks for the video, it gives empowerment and options to people who love there pets.
It could be painful on older teeth. My dog is 16 years old and he went off dried food. But I found that by dribbling a bit of water onto the pellets, it softened it up a bit. My dog is being spoiled now, because we know he's on the final lap of life, so by mixing cooked steak - with all of its juices - he has returned to eating the dried/moist food. I get the same result from using chicken or ham in the mix.
@@janvera972 unfortunately I have to speak in the past tense, because my little pooch died one month after I posted my comment. Anyway, in answer to your question, I'm in the UK and the two brands of dog food that I was using were Harrington's or Baker's. On its own, my dog didn't want to know. But softened with a bit of drizzled water and or meat juices, he loved it. We always tried to add some bits of decent chicken or other meat - just for a treat.
PLEASE go to Dr. Karen Becker’s You Tube channel and her excellent vide0 “ 3 Pillars of Health” webinar. She has many great videos . You are right, the companies push and advertise dog food to appeal to the humans and gain their trust. Would you feed your child a box of “ kid food” every meal? congrats on making changes
First coffee is your dog allergic to fresh organic chicken or chicken biproduct in commercial food? I think alot of people whose dogs are allergic to something is because it's not very healthy. My pitbulls allergeys stopped when I started going to butcher meat store for her food it's fresh grass fed organic and they specifically have meat cuts for petfood it's not expensive
I thought my 15 y old beagle had a yeast overgrowth after watching Dr Becker’s ‘yeasty dog’ so I switched his dry food and saucy canned food for this recipe and it made a world of difference in his digestion. His poops 💩 now look healthy, his anis is no longer swollen and he doesn’t pass gas as much. BUT now he is suffering from skin issues...Could this be part of a detox from years of processed foods⁉️. I first noticed a round dark spot on his shoulder and then another and after a bath it rubbed off along with hair....ringworm? I haven’t gone to the vet because Of COVID19 and am trying to take care of this from home. THANK YOU Dr Becker and Rodney Habib for your helpful videos.
My dog loved the food a lot. Only suggestion would be to blend the egg shells a little finer in a coffee grinder of some sort. My dog spat out 2 snap fragments that didn’t get blended good enough.
I made this and my dog loved it. It was super easy, too. The only negative was having to buy the supplements/oils cause they were a bit pricey. Luckily they should last a long long time. I doubled the recipe to be able to have 1 weeks worth of meals for my 17lb jack russell.
I did a rough calculation and came up with a calorie count for this recipe. Total calories are approximately 721 for this recipe. Based on 14 oz lean ground beef (95% lean / 5% fat). 14 oz ground beef - 543.3 calores 1/2 t cod liver oil - 22.5 2 t hemp seed oil - 83.3 1 oz liver - 38 1 egg - 72 veggies and spices (ginger, kelp) negligible calories
Tom Evans I must be a real dummy...I look at all those numbers and get confused....I have several dogs I feed them all together how do I know who's getting what. I've tried feeding them separate. It takes forever.
help! My dog currently eats 2 cups of their dog food. According to the bag, 1 cup equals 245 kcal. How many calories would it take to get them on this recipe?
This recipe contains 40 calories per ounce. 8 ounces in a cup equals 320 cals per cup, right? I would weigh it on a scale, though until you come up with 16 ounces. Probably about 2.5 cups but weighing it is the best way.
Great recipe, but you should also mention that according to Dr. Becker’s book (Real Food for Healthy Dogs & Cats fourth edition 2017), this should be fed in rotation and not every day because daily kelp for iodine supplementation that is non-standardized (in supplement form, like NOW 150 microgram tablets) can lead to allergies. I had to dig deep in the book for this. Another point from her book, diets with beef exclusively need to include hemp oil (or hemp seed oil, which seems more fitting, but the book states hemp oil-so I’m not sure) to add the necessary linoleic acid (LA) that ground beef nutritionally lacks (soil depletion, etc.). This recipe is divine, but please provide more information to the public as it’s not as simple as just “feed this and your dog will be healthy.” There’s tons of changing research. Much respect to Karen and Rodney (and Steve Brown) for creating this recipe, but please look more carefully. 🐶
Thank you! I'm so glad there's finally a recipe you can cook! I've long been reading about the benefits of a BARF diet for dogs and was excited about making the switch from canned wet food to raw. Unfortunately, my dog won't touch raw meat! No matter what I've offered her or how hungry she is (she will starve herself for days if offered something she doesn't want to eat), she even turns her nose up at raw chicken wings! I'm having to give up on the dream of raw feeding and go to the next best thing: home cooked. But I'm struggling to find the same amount of quality advice on creating nutritionally balanced meals (what makes it more difficult, is that she's allergic to beef, lamb, pork and wheat). Can the beef in this recipe be subbed for chicken or venison? I would really appreciated more videos like this for nutritionally complete, grain-free meals that can be cooked for your dog. :)
What I feed my Katie for a week. 1 lb ground Turkey 2 eggs 1/4 cup white rice 1 cup mixed vegetables Unsalted bullion packet of either chicken or beef Either fry it up in a pan or bake it in loaf pan. She gets 1/2 cup a day. She is a Shih-Poo. She weighs 16 lbs. She sometimes gets the runs from beef. So I only give her a beef patty when she seems constipated. I will try your change up recipe next time I make hers but with ground Turkey. I freeze the leftovers after I cook the whole thing. Thank you for your recipe.
I just got done making around 9 weeks supply for my pups . Turkey burger , canned chicken , canned tuna , beef liver , peas, carrots , green beans , turmeric, garlic and pepper .
We need PUPPY food recipe, too! My puppy needs you now. Is it just more calories and calcium for a puppy? Is whole milk yogurt calcium bio available to puppies/dogs?
With puppies you need to be careful that they get the right calcium-phosphorous ratio and amounts, especially large breeds can develop skeletal issues. Bone has the right proportions of calcium and phosphorous and should make up about 10% of a raw/ barf diet for puppies. With this recipe I guess you'd need to increase the amount of ground egg shell, but there might be other considerations that I'm not aware of.
Oh thank you. I don't even have the words. I am an 8x cancer survivor and the chemo brain is crazy bad. I just don't understand things anymore and you have finally answered my question of what to feed my very best friend. You made it simple thank you. Also I live in a van so I don't have an oven or a lot of freezer space. I do have a mini food processor so my Serenity is starting on this diet.
I’m really excited I found you Rodney and Dr Becker! I’ve been watching you both a lot! I did get the probiotic that I believe Dr Becker had her had on created. Now I can’t wait to start my 2 dogs on this food but, I’m unsure how much my 40lb dogs should eat per day or per meal. I’d love to find that information so I can begin. Do you sell a dog recipe book? I’d buy it today 🙌🏼 thank you again for loving all of our pets!
I did mine raw, but I served the portion smaller so that I could add some chicken necks in there. I like when they have something to chew and not just immediately swallow (:plus i love the crunching sound:)

Jennifer Serkey catinfo.org/making-cat-food/ this is a recipe that a MVD uses for her own cats, and recommends it for "almost" all other cats, if nothing else feed your kitties low carb high protien wet/canned food :)
The best food for cats with kidney disease is Feline Instincts. It's a powdered supplement mix that you mix into ground, raw meat along with water, canned pumpkin, a little bit of salmon oil. Here is the link: felineinstincts.com/feline-instincts-crf-my-natural-kidney-support-diet/ There are no ground bones in this recipe like in the Dr. Lisa Pierson recipe. Although that is a good recipe for healthy cats, it is not recommended for cats with kidney disease. My CRF kitty inhaled this recipe and it really helped bring his kidney values down. Hope this helps. :)
look at catnutrition.org for a perfect cat recipie. I've been using it 10 years and my cats are always super healthy. The ones that were adult when we started lived to be 17-19 yrs old.
Just recently I was watching several dingoes preparing the evening meal, fresh vegetables and supplements are an integral part of wild dog nutrition. I was amazed at the fire starting skills of dingoes and their ability to fashion a frypan from local iron ore deposits. Dinner conversation was centred on the need to find fresh avocado for breakfast.
*QUESTIONS* 1- Can I use whatever meat is 'lean'? You know to better catch sales :) 2- Is there a replacement for Hempseed oil? Heck, never even heard of it before. 3- Ginger replacement? Kelp replacement? 4- Liver- heart/kidneys work too correct? Also, can be chicken or even pork? 5-Veggies- Carrots, sweet potato?
garry12777 anything made out of hemp is super healthy hemp seed oil is amazing don't change it! Nor ginger! That's a magical ingredient. Also there's lots of veggies you can give your doggie that they'll benefit from just google it 😊
Carrots and sweet potato are high in sugar. Hemp goes with beef but if you do poultry use flax instead. You have to have liver. It should be 5% of the meat weight. Kelp for the iodine
I plugged this into the My Pet Recipes app recommended in the forever dog book, and it comes back totally unbalanced. Now im confused.. do I trust this recipe or the app? I formulated a few recipes in the app that are (according to it) 100% balanced, but now I don't know if I should trust it or not since this recipe in the video is supposedly balanced but the app says it isn't. Anyone have any insight?
How do we measure the amount of food daily given to our dogs size? On dry, I feed a 30lb dog 2 cups daily, would it be the same or should I feed less or more?
You would measure in grams or whatever metric you use 😊 Your dog should eat 2-3% of thier body weight (my dog is 9kg and eats 225g of raw food per day) Hope this helped
@@kelelafucksmysoul4340 its not very hard to figure out the measurement thanks to the girl above, 9kg÷225 = 25g per kg 25×11 = 275g. Thats about how much your dog needs :)
@@kelelafucksmysoul4340 hey hun I have a bull mastiff weighing 45kg and a husky whose weighs 15kg. Can u help me on how much to feed them. They have two meals a day
keep in mind, while dogs can stomach raw foods. They don't exactly use mouth wash after a meal. And if they are licking kids, they are spreading whatever bacteria is in the raw meat. This is something people often over look. If you have out door barn dogs, that don't interact with kids, sure, maybe raw will work. But a dog that is sharing a bed with people, will be covered in the bacteria. Because dogs lick them selves. Everything they lick, has the raw food on it. Just something to consider.
Our 7 years old GSD has arthritis. Two months ago Her condition became very bad and She stopped walking for four days. She was laying sideways and barely going potty. The VET said to give Her pain killers to manage the pain. Drug Her - This was VET's solution. I started cooking this recipe and now the dog is running again. Pain killers do not solve the problem. They only make the dog or person to not feel pain which can lead to even more damage.
buy her a natural powder for dogs called Super snouts. my dog tore acl and developed arthritis also. i found this powder and he has no mobility problems now. you can also give her a fish oil capsule from walmart. it helps with inflamation.
same here my dog is 13 she screamed every time she walked up and down the stairs from pain i started her on raw she is running and jumping again i make this recipe or something like it sometimes but most of the time they get instinct raw =
I hope you never know what real pain is. I agree that we need to look at everything when treating our pets and ourselves but to outright say that pain medication isn't a valid option is ludicrous. I have pain every day and I exercise, eat right and it doesn't matter, some people and animals are predisposed to pain or arthritis, etc & to not give pain medicine if needed is cruel. I'm thrilled your dog is better but I hope it never gets worse because there might come a time where just good food isn't going to fix it and your dog is gonna be in pain and your self righteous attitude isn't going to help.
(dogs weight) x .02 = how many pounds per day my dog weighs 67lbs, so his daily meat intake would be 1.34lbs or 21.5 ozs per meal or devided into 2 meals 10.75oz
So almost a pound of ground beef for one meal? I have nine rescue dogs and live on Social Security. In Mexico, meat is very expensive. Can you do a meal for one dog for less? Sometimes I buy beef liver and kidneys, but I have heard that liver should not be more than 10% of the meal. I do combine it with bone broth and kibble. But I think I will start by adding the herbs, for sure.
Look up the calorie content of each ingredient ... add them together and compare with how much your dog is eating now (as long it is maintaining a healthy weight) and then adjust up or down.
Heike King this is what confuses me....I have to add up calories? Jeezez I don't even add up calories for myself how am I going to manage doing it for six dogs
I've been doing this recipe for my little Maggie (shih-tzu) for quite some time. She LOVES it! However, her vet believes that beef and chicken could possibly be the cause of her ear infections, and some skin itching. So, her vet told me to replace the beef with fish. So, that's what I've done. I use Basa fillets and tuna (while still using the sardines called for in the recipe). Could you please tell me if there's other adjustments that I should make due to the switch from beef to fish? The vet hasn't seen any other changes in Maggie's health other than the ear infections have cleared up finally, and the itching has subsided greatly. I give Maggie this food for one meal each day, and a holistic dry, vegan food (by Halo) for her second meal of the day. Oh, and I bake the recipe like a casserole in the oven. I layer the fish fillets, then the rest of the mixture layered on top. I multiply the recipe by 4 times, and I get a months worth of meals for Maggie.
It is highly doubtful that beef or chicken would cause the problem, I would be much more concerned about processed vegan food for an animal whose teeth clearly identify him as a carnivore. Try lamb, pork, turkey, goat, rabbit, venison, bison, etc. in your recipe. Also, if your vet is okay with you feeding vegan to your dog, I'd find another vet.
my dog is healthy, feeding home cooked : ground beef ground chicken one whole Broccoli (grinded) milled pumpkin seeds , milled chia seeds one spoon calcium powder. in-between i give raw green tripe and chicken wings raw !!
Yes, you can. You can even mix them together. I think this recipe used beef because people don't freak out as much about raw beef as they do about raw fish or poultry. You should freeze your fish for 3 weeks just to kill any potential parasites.
I read that the oxalate in spinach isn't good for dogs and that cruciferous vegetables like brussel sprouts, cabbage, bok choi and/or broccoli should be used instead.
pitbullpappa dogs arent meant to eat plants their biological evolution dosent call for it. Humans need plants ex. Fruit, berries, nuts and seeds bc we thrive on it. Cholesterol is expelled 100 percent in excrement in dogs however. they need raw organs, meat and bones for a happy healthy doggo.
Well dogs are scavenging carnivores they have adopted to process some plants based diet, their ancestral eats grass as well. Adding veggies in the diet will help avoid micronutrients difeciency etc
Wow, honestly this was a great video. I have done so much research but somehow it still left me confused. This video showed me how easy it is to start and how I can slowly add. I was always worried it would not be a balance meal but if I always have this recipe in my pocket and being able to add on it really gives me peace of mind. Its alot more affordable. This video really helped my decision to start feeling raw
Did you know that Dr. Karen Becker has a whole book just on exactly how to feed homemade dog or cat food and to make sure the are getting their nutrition? Excellent guide book with recipes. You can find it on Dr, Mercola’s website, I don’t know if it is on Amazon or not
@@teodoramora705 You're a dumbass. Dogs have been domesticated, and they've evolved. That means their stomachs have evolved to eat what they feed them. Get off the internet, kiddo.
I have been making my dogs food for awhile now, but I also am grateful for this recipe also! I am going to add some of your ingredients to mine :) Thank you for doing this for us out here.
kittenjewel101 2% of your dogs body weight, if you are maintaining they're current weight, if you feel like your dog needs to gain/lose some extra pounds, you can adjust how much you feed accordingly. Hope that helps
kittenjewel101 look up the calories needed for your dogs weight. at the end of this is says how many calories per oz so id check out what calories are needed. if it was prey model raw it would just be about 2% of your pups body weight 😊
