In this video we make a homemade electrolyte drink using the LMNT recipe. This can save you a lot of money.
Here's the link to the LMNT website with their recipe and information. science.drinklmnt.com/electro...
I use 20 ounces or water in my water bottle. The LMNT wesbite reccommends anywhere from 16-32 ounces. The less water...the more salty it will be.
1/2 teaspoon salt
400 mg Potassium Chloride
1/4 teaspoon Magnesium Malate
Here's some links (Amazon Affiliate) to all the stuff I used in case you want to try making it at home.
Himalyan Pink Salt amzn.to/3Hn9fW9
Potassium Chloride amzn.to/48WPnVv
Magnesium Malate amzn.to/3tNcxyZ
NOTE: Due to all positive comments on Redmonds Real Sea Salt I have since filming also been using that salt. amzn.to/3zepZho
MIO Water Flavoring amzn.to/49G0QJC
Measuring Spoons amzn.to/3SlKJuI
Small Scale amzn.to/4907UR1
Small Spatula amzn.to/4253vdm
Small Plastic Cups With Lids amzn.to/3tYdIvo
Spice Grinder amzn.to/4b121EP

I use 1/4 teaspoon great value NO SALT it's the same potassium as LMNT, 1/2 tsp. Pink salt, 1/2 tsp. Magnesium (not citrate) and I also add creatine 5 grams. like you it's a fraction of the cost! I load them 30 at a time into used zip fiz containers.

I mix my electrolytes in the proper ratios in a 1/2 pt. mason jar then just measure out a calculated combined amount in a dipper into whatever drink container I want to use at the moment. Much easier than measuring out individual doses of the individual ingredients for each drink.

Thanks for the advise. I did the same but, LOL, I have found a better way. Multiply the amount of the 3 ingredients printed on the label by 100 and then mix is all up in one (1) larger container, preferably made from glass so you won't get the micro-plastics into your body. When you need home made LMNT, just take a teaspoon and mix it with water. There is no need to measure the ingredients into tiny cups. Usually, electrolytes come in a big container except for LMNT.
@mEatToLive

This makes a lot of sense. Do the ingredients begin to clump over time or does it stay dry?
@tbaerhold
@tbaerhold 12 дней назад
@@mEatToLive No clumping and it stays dry. I am using a previously purchased electrolyte container with that granulate pouch inside. I think I want to switch to a glass container to prevent micro-plastics from the container in my supplement. Also, the original formula was a bit too salty to me (may be because of the strong ground Himalayan) and reduced the salt by 20% :) Have a great day.

LMNT flavored products contain maltodextrin not openly disclosed. It is included in "0ther flavors/ingredients". LMNT is allowed to do this because the government considers it a safe additive. If you are sensitive to maltodextrin, be aware that it is in the LMNT flavored products. You can make your own and know exactly what is in it for less money.

You may want to notice too much sodium / salt is not helpful for potassium absorption. Get good salt with reduced sodium content. In Europe I found sodium reduced salt from Catalanian salt mines in Northern Spain, that naturally has 24 - 40% less soduim and instead contains a lot of kalium. This unprocessed natural salt doesn't require any Lysinhydrochlorid to get rid of bitter taste that other low sodium salts may contain.

Maybe take into consideration this point. The flavored water additives usually contain sucralose (Splenda). Not only is that ingredient addictive, but it causes cravings, weight gain, obesity, and more. Last year, I used one with an orange flavoring. I absolutely craved it. One day, I took a drink, and my reaction was like a drug adfict that had just taken an injection. It was like euphoria. At that realization, I threw the bottle awsy. I was not allowing any fake substance to make me feel like that. After a few days, the cravings left. Be warned.

It's mined in the northern plateau Salt mine in Pakistan, no where near any sea and Himalayan Pink Salt has the HIGHEST amount of trace elements than any known salt on Earth, I'm 70 and have been using it for 10 years now .... best and healthiest salt hands down.

Gracias! Absolutely love LMNT but I go thru 2 boxes each month (i.e. about $1K/year). 1) And a great way to naturally flavor each drink is to add some sliced fruit. I put about a quarter cup in a 20-onuce sports bottle. 2) If you keep your favorite sliced fruits in Ziploc bags, it's a lot more convenient than doing each one. And depending on how frequently you make drinks, consider keeping the sliced fruit in the fridge/freezer to elongate the freshness. 3) If you're transitioned on a Keto diet make sure you're getting enough Iodine. I lost 82lbs in 2023 but after 4-5 months I had a minor hiccup...I always felt cold. I normally wear t-shirts everywhere but I found myself wearing a thermal as well as a jacket. Turned out that I wasn't getting enough Iodine. After just a few days of taking Iodine supplements, I felt fine. At any rate, most salt products are enriched with iodine...but not Himalayan salt. If you're not getting enough real salt in your diet consider getting Iodine drops to put in your LMNT recipe.

Great post! I've been making ours for a couple yrs now, from supplies I bought from Bulk Supplements. Same result you have achieved, very low cost per serving since each ingredient is purchased in one lb to one kilo amts. I also experiment w/various forms of magnesium & potassium, as well as throwing in some zinc and/or lemon powder or other powdered flavor now & then. We've also used the Kroger/MIO water flavors, often finding them for under a dollar at a local discount/overflow grocery place (Peoria Discount Grocery). So many ways to save on these things, for those who'd rather spend that $500 on a new wardrobe or a big pile of beef. =)

Cut a real lemon in half and squeeze that instead of powder. Powder all too often uses pasteurized lemon juice to dehydrate into powder. Lemon juice is really good for you but pasteurized lemon juice has very little health benefit. Don't mean to be a kill joy. I was buying lemon juice at COSTCO until I found this out and have since simply been buying a bag of lemons at the store. I drink it all day.

Magnesium is definitely good for sleeping. I make a Gatorade-like drink. I use this Morton's Lite Salt, which is blend of sodium chloride and potassium, some lemon and lime juices, and some artificial sweetener. Tastes like old-school lemon lime Gatorade, from back when Gatorade used to have actual electrolytes in it. For the magnesium, I just take a daily supplement. I might give your version a try though.

My teenage son has been addicted to the monster drinks and I’m really concerned because of all the stuff that’s in those. And also was looking for a good electrolyte drink. So when I bought a container of mix from Amazon, it was about 70 servings and it was close to $30. It was the best quality I could get for the price and I was still really, not comfortable spending that much money on an electrolyte drink. So I got the idea to make an electrolyte drink, but then spike it up with some amino acid liquid and some niacinamide/B3 liquid along with some Stevia and some natural watermelon flavoring. I even threw a little bit of Vitamin C powder to give it a little bit of that sour taste. It turned out really good! I keep it in a large pitcher in the refrigerator :-) I didn’t have magnesium or potassium so I used liquid ionic trace mineral drops. I’m gonna have to get some of the ones you mentioned here and add it to the mix. :-) thanks!

one tip about the himalayan salt you can just put a tablespoon in some water and leave it over night until the water is clear and use the top clear part of the water a teaspoon to 1 litre of water is enough. But letting it settle you ingest less of the heavy metals that are in Himalayan Salt in my opinion.
