I really like how you piece together you’re curriculum. It’s nice to see your own creations and ideas. The Chicano/Spanish studies is something I would love to incorporate in our homeschool. Tfs 🙂
So I just enrolled my second grader into homeschooling and I was wondering any advice any of you mamas can give as to where to start would be very appreciated!! Your video gave me inspiration so thanks for the great watch!
I know this is a year old lol 😂. I would say start with learning your state laws and requirements! I live in a state that has two options. The first you can pick your own curriculum that’s approved by the state and you have to include proof of curriculum when you report it. The second option you can pick any curriculum you want only reporting the required 180 hours of class time. Those factors influences your curriculum. Some people don’t want to follow the state for different reasons. I would next figure out where your child is academically, found out there learning style, pick a curriculum, include exercise or sports, and talk to them about the experience they want in a homeschool. I also asked my daughter what she didn’t like about public school. I label my calendar with holidays, doctors appointments, birthdays , vacations, breaks for me, and sports activities. I do that BEFORE I enter my curriculum on the calendar. I made that mistake the first year lol 😂. I picked a full year kit my first year because it was to overwhelming to pull from different companies. Now I know how my child learns and I can skip certain styles of teaching. That saves me money and time. I take 1-2 months to plan all my classes. It allows me to grab and teach quickly. I couldn’t stand having to gather all my stuff on Sunday night. I would end up second guessing my decisions, not having all my supplies, and tired before class started. Sorry this was so long but I hope it helps.
Love how you customize things!!!! Also, I need to check out your Spanish video on how you teach it in your homeschool. We love Explode the Code, hopefully they will like it too💓
I have the Trophies and The Fusion books. Our county gives old text books out for free. My only complaint is they never label anything per grade in the warehouse. I don't think I found the work books for the text readers readers. I will have to go look now. Lol I also found unused copies of Investigative Math from our school warehouse. You've givin me some new ideas for this year. I have a 2 year old, prek, 1st and 2nd grader.
Life as a truckers wife Oh that’s great to hear I love getting free stuff.. So on textbooks that you get from schools if you look at the back around the barcode area there’s always going to be a number right below or right above the barcode it’s either going to be a one or two with three that’s the grade sometimes you’ll see the grade level with a Dash then another number that’s usually the level .. for instance if it looks like this 3-2 that means it’s third grade level 2 so you Usually would want to find level one to start them at the beginning
Homeschooling Free & Happy Genius I love shopping at thrift stores for curriculum ,, June is one of the best months to go shopping because a lot of teachers donate a lot of their old stuff after the school year ends
My Adrian is going to be in 2nd grade this 20-21 year. So lovely to hear that Name! This is my very first year doing homeschoing. I'm still don't know how do this:(
@@HomeschoolOfBelAir. Nice! Here my oldest son named my youngest = Adrian. Hey Alex I'm glad you speak Spanish!!! I too thats my primary language😃. Hey do you have FB.?
Ade Corro No I don’t do Facebook ,, I have an Instagram that’s the only social media I do besides my channel!! You can find me under homeschool of Bel Air on insta
Cool! I am new subscribe and a homeschool Mom nerd, 😆, in a good way, 😊. I have an upcoming 2nd header too. We love Handwriting Without Tears and I’ve used it with my oldest too. He’ll do great! I also love All about Spelling / Reading too. We used those for a while, it just got to be too much work so we switched to Phonic Zoo. Curious to see how Explode the Code Works for you. The pictures are kind of creepy to me, but I have a Special Needs Daughter and wondering if this is an option. I have had very bad luck teaching my kids Spanish. My husband’s family is Hispanic and they all speak Spanish so it’s kind of mandatory for my kids to learn... but no one will teach them and they expect me too! Aww! I’ll have to check out your other video. Never heard of Science Fusion. 🤔 Thanks for the share, I get super curious to what others are using and have luck with.
Living With Eve Thank You! I’ve never heard of phonic zoo.. I’ll have to check it out! Haha! Explode the code covers are a little creepy.. my son checked out some of the pages I think he’s gonna really enjoy working from it.
@@LivingWithEve Agree! I am currently using All About Reading and Spelling, and I am not too fond of it. I use it more of a guide and use other workbooks, which are more easier to follow along.
great curriculum choices. I particularly love the way you do Spanish. we are learning German through books but i'm not as creative as you. the activities you are creating are wonderful. also, would you do a comparison video between singapore and abeka math? we are going to do singapore this year and i'm considering adding abeka because it has such a colorful workbook, but i wonder if it won't be too much. i heard that both are quite advanced. i would appreciate your thoughts on this.
mona mona thank you !! That’s a great idea ,, I’ll try to film a flip through comparison of the two math curriculums .. good luck with learning German .
New friend to your channel. I just purchased the handwriting without tears last month. Where did you find the Chicano Studies? I would like to buy that.
Mommy of 2 for Life Hi and welcome!!! We love Handwriting without tears .. as far as Chicano Studies , I’m actually putting that together myself .. hopefully at some point I’ll be able to share them glad to see there’s interest in them
Thanks for sharing... for geography, social studies & history you said you do on Friday’s. Just wondering do you do all 3 on a Friday or one subject per Friday then the next ect.
Lupe R yes,, Monday-Thursday we do Handwriting, reading, spelling , grammar , phonics, ( language Arts) Math and 50 states geography we also squeeze in our Chicano Studies usually on Tuesdays,, Friday we do Draw Write Now, social Studies, science , History , we also work from our regular geography book then we end our Friday with Art
Lupe R here’s a link to a Friday Day in the life video ,, this is how our Friday go ,, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CaIqARMUwjA.html
I would love to buy your plans for Chicano Studies! Do you have a book list or any helpful links? I've been trying to implement something similar, but I find it hard to find the time to source and align everything.
Samantha Espinoza I don’t have them for sale yet cause I’m still working on them I made a video showing the books that were using I’ll send you the link
Rita foster not necessarily, I only use it cause I sit and read the lessons out loud to my boys , I would have to double check the workbook, but I believe the workbooks tells you what the lesson page number is . Because he would just be a matter of knowing what page in the workbook to do with each lesson but I think it’s pretty easy to figure out if you just gonna go in order
Thanks for you answer! I wonder How long take you go for the subject each day! Because we do our curriculum plus games board read aloud and can take 5 hours only 1 child. I like to see how you scheduled the subjects!!!
Yarelis Reyes we don’t do games everyday .. I have a few Day in the life videos, you can get a good idea as to how our day goes .. the only subject that’s takes us and hour is Language Arts , everything else is between 10 minutes to 30 minutes.. Monday -Thursday’s we do all language Arts , writing , reading, and math and Friday’s we do art , social studies, science and history
Nichole Bird This year I spent a little over $500 ,, approx $170 on ALl about Reading / spelling that was the most expensive curriculum I purchased this year
