As I said- "Boy I'm rusty." In my defense, I hadn't played Remastered since... beginning of February? It was a while ago. So I made just soo many terrible decisions in the match. Most notably, I decided to keep spamming units instead of focusing on getting frigate tech. I figured getting a support cruiser was just a waste of RUs until I REALLY had him on the ropes. Oh silly me. Looking at this cast is very eye opening, seeing all of the little things I should've done, or done differently. Hopefully I'll improve in time for my next appearance. Thank you for casting! PS- I think calling it an "even match" is a little bit of a stretch. I mean, this IS Emptysoul I was going up against. The fact I survived as long as I did, and that I went down slowly and not all at once... that's a major accomplishment. And I did have some heavy corvettes in there. Not as many as I should've had, probably. *Subtly demands a rematch*
Thank you! But I doubt it- you're a pro at Homeworld (all of them). GG indeed. I'll let you now when *the* rematch happens, maybe we can get it casted if all goes according to plan :)
Oh, it was just brainstorming! This is the *most* epic 1v1 in Homeworld remastered on your channel to this day. Many thanks to Empty Soul and Klepto-Bysmol for this crazy showmatch. (And thank you, Dreamlands! :D)
Awesome casting as usual. Also bonus points for the camera work at the crucial points. Really wish the game had some kind of cinematic mod to enjoy even more. :) P.S.: Yeah, seems the Drone frigate is good against strike craft and corvettes, but I never used them. In actuality I think the Kiith Somtaaws Hive-class Drone Frigate is far superior.
An example of just how important taking the initiative early is. Kushan player's scout raid didn't accomplish anything in terms of direct damage, but really set the pace of forcing the Taiidan player into reactive play. Scouts provoke an overreaction into Interceptors, Light Corvettes force an overreaction into bombers, minelayer gets in and does some damage all the while keeping all of the aggression on red's side of the field. If not for the goofy digressions into Kushan Drone Frigates and that grav-well generator Yellow could have shut this out much sooner.
Really exciting back-and-forth on this one, pushing over to the mothership, then all the way back. I'm always very happy with pivotal frigate play, too.
So ya, it looked like those drone frigates weren't really doing much as an anti-strike craft platform, but maybe we didn't see it well? Also, you can cycle thru tab for some more UI cues, might help us see units and keep track of things. I agree with you tho, the UI isn't very replay friendly at all! KEEP 'EM COMING THO!
What they do is launch is launch a bunch of little drones, and those fire at the strikecraft. One or two aren't as effective as, say, seven. And since there was so much happening, it's entirely possible we didn't see it well. I didn't even notice if they were doing anything to my swarm, but hoo boy did they frighten me.
Thx for the Cast DL, Always look forward to your HWR casts. Drone frigs are entirely Anti-Fighter frigates. Little surprised KB wasn't able to tech ahead and stem the tide with a 3rd under his belt. Corvettes really are the answer to early fighter swarms. Will keep that in mind next time I play :) Congrats to Empty Soul, great push and micro. Question though, why the scout spam in the early game? Arn't they a waste of res?
Tristan Truth Thank you :) I think empty went scouts for intel and harrass, which allowed him to get corvettes faster, since they are cheaper than ints. Not building any strikecraft is very risky in 1v1 imo.
Noob at gaming and Homeworld here! Can someone explain, at a high level, what this video is? Is being an spectator to a match something that's built-in to the game? Does it happen live or after the match? I'm looking for a cool game to get into, but I'm not a gamer and don't know much about games... Homeworld and Homeworld like games (EVE Online, Elite Dangerous) look interesting.
drone frigates seem ok ... definetly an option to consider if the opponent goes for figherheavy strats .. but anything else rather go corvets and/or assualtfrigates ...
Homeworld remastered includes both. Currently, only HW1 factions were involved in this match making it defacto HW1, but you can mix all 4 factions so, it's pretty much a league of it's own.
In multiplayer, yes. It has HW1 campaign and HW2 campaign, you can play either in MP, or just play Homeworld Remastered MP, that's a mix of both and allow both era's sides to fight each other. Due to it using the mechanics from HW2, the HW1 campaign and MP is a little wonky and can be very annoying, but most of the issues regarding this were fixed a while ago now. For MP then, it's very balanced, though some tactics are easier and more assured than others because you are trying to balance the HW1 era factions to be competitive with the HW2 era factions, and vice versa. All the same, it's a worthy purchase if you are a HW fan, and/or like RTS games in general.
I'd also recommend using the Homeworld Remastered 2.3 Players Path, which is a mod of Homeworld Remastered through the Steam Workshop. I've been playing with this mod on HW1 single player and it makes it a more consistent experience, with a lot of fixes for game bugs: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1190476337
This is just silly, fighter and corvette spam only? Even if you can suppress opponent's light craft forces, how will you deal with his mothership and carrier? You can never stop him from gathering resources and switch to heavy ships (just like what happened in this video). You clearly don't have a plan, yes I'm pointing at you, abysmal
It works well... I just forgot the whole "build some ion cannon frigates" part. I mean.... I haven't played this in months, my brain rotted from playing Sims 3 nonstop since February. There are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many things I knew I should've done differently. I uh... y'know. Just kinda winged it. Probably shouldn't have, but I was so concerned with trying to push off Emptysoul that I decided it was a good (I really don't know why I did, but hey) idea to skip capital ship research because I didn't have the RUs to spend on support frigates. I did, but I was pretty much stuck in panic mode since the first swarm of scouts. Attack bombers and heavy corvettes can actually tear through carriers. Not as fast as they can shred through a frigate, not even remotely, but they can do it. It worked before, but I actually... y'know, had frigates.
