I know its harder to comment on this game due to its spectate limitations therefore thanks for the attempt. It is still very nice to watch and waiting for more. It shows that you're inexperienced with HWR but I wouldn't be worry as much. If you stick with it it will come in time. The main thing about this RTS is that its very different from the others and HW2 factions are really different from each other. One large factor is that it brings another dimension which is time to effectiveness of your ships. You can build something expensive, time consuming and slow, but it may not bring the decisive factor in time. As new player you will learn that for the most part you don't have your things where they should be for the most part. You feel you're outmaneuvered by the opponent. Logistics is huge thing here. For the same reason it is almost always enough time to come back if played smart. Also experienced players will always mass their fighters first and try to catch opponent with EMP strike. Winning fighter superiority is first strategic goal of every fight. While Vaygr have EMP that tracks enemy ships and have more fighters and scouts and the Hiigaran's EMP is much weaker and tend to miss. Therefore Hiigaran have Flak frigates to counter Vaygr scouts unless out of postiion, also their Torpedo frigate has great range and can kill well everything while capitalizing their max range with proper maneuvering. Vaygr have best battlecrouser because they can out range Hiigarans, however if they manage to get in range they will wreck Vaygr in no time. Therefore Vaygr will stay at its max distance when chased by Hiigaran in opposite Hiigaran will try to fly away from Vaygr range forcing them to chase and then rapid change to forward thrust to get in range before Vaygr BC manage to change it course properly. Also Vaygr BC will start to turn away while flying backwards when they get out of range which will cause them to get in range by Hiigaran on next turn. Also Hiigaran will try to destroy engines or Hyperspace Inhibitors to jump in range. They will also use Ion Canon Frigates to put some damage on Vaygr forces. Hiigaran destroyers are good overall DPS, they are capable at dealing damage to small targets like fighters and resources, so it is common tactic to get them as all round damage dealer - the only problem is that it can be out manouvered and captured if not supported. It is actually the case for all larger ships. Only well combined arms, especially for Hiigaran can win the game. Vaygr can deal with some more exotic and more focused strategies. Vaygr is stron very early and late game with BC while Hiigaran is strong mid-game when you manage to defend from EMP strikes that win's fighter fights and before Vaygr manage to get BC's. in late game its all about who will manouver better their units and manage to kill others BC first, and of course from start to the end who has better fighter superiority. I suggest to try to catch Maddie and Cloaked, some HW and HWR veterans, HWR official forum is good place. I think that when possible on larger maps try to scuttle your ship and spectate so with the 2nd method - that way at least it will be easier to identify sides by color.
Fantastic insight, thank you. Ill get into my swing with this game over the next few weeks, as I plan on casting a match once a week. My inexperience comes from only really ever playing campaign, and limited MP with Hiigaran faction.
One important thing that you barely commented on was the Hiigaran torpedo frigates blunting the edge of the corvette wave. Without that, the destroyers would have deployed after their air support was wiped out
Im loving the HM Remastered replays, one of my favourite games and its a shame it doesent get more recognition. Also as a quick tip: You can press Alt and drag a frame over objects to instantly snap over to one or multiple units to have them in focus, makes moving the camera around much easier Edit: NVM you actually do use the alt key in the fifth minute to focus on a group of interceptors.
Tomcat's a beast! playing the fighters like a pro, love seeing all the micromanaging important tactics taking place to gain fighter dominance! Just beautiful....
Love that you're casting some Homeworld, one of my favourite games of all time. I wouldn't mind having larger maps, when I used to play I'd always go for one map size larger than what we had (so 2v2 in a 3v3 map). More resources, more room. But that's because I liked larger battles. I don't think you need to settle on one. Some of the players may want to play larger, slugging it all out battles. Some may prefer in your face skirmishes like this. But there are races that would dominate games like this quite easily. Vaygr used to be so notorious for this.
In my opinion Algol's bigger problem in this game was going for Heavy corvettes instead of Multi-Gun corvettes. If he had multi gun corvettes, nothing currently on the field could stop them except for the Torpedo frigates, but there weren't many (and he'd already teched to Bombers so that would have been okay). Then he could use Salvage corvettes, since he would have taken control of the fighter battle, and that's a pretty good counter to DD.
I feel larger maps with you on one of the teams would be good. It makes it easier to see who is winning a fight and who isn't. I would enjoy it if the matches were a bit longer, too. Amazing job (as usual) casting this with the limited possibilities at your disposal. Thank you, sir :)

What the hiigaran player did there was put his interceptors into an aggressive stance, maximising dps and trusting his superior numbers (and the presence of his production) to carry the fight.
I'm so glad that you started playing HW RM you seem to struggle with ship selecting so heres a tip for you : you can focus on about anything in the game by holding the Alt key and then you can focus on whatever you like from asteroids to enemy ships
Fan of Homeworld since I read about it before it came out in 1999. Tinkered with Babylon 5 mods a lot back in the day when that was a thing. Looking forward to more of these and I hope blackbird will find a way to release an official observer mode. I hope next battle will not be so one sided ;)
Sorry man, since HW1 factions are a bit OP I wanted to press the counter attack before any of Algol's heavy units or a grav well popped out. Shield always ends up being quick.
i Own DoK but can only play it on my friends laptop. I own this game and i am an complete noob, but i would like to play with others as well as see more of this....hopefully you do cast a 2v2 or a ffa.....i have a lot to learn

if Hiigaran are banished people (right ? as far as i know) why they even compete militarily with Taiidan Empire (wich has like centuries to establish advanced space and military tech)
Before they managed to reclaim their homeworld and become Hiigaran again, they were the Kushan. At the time, they had 2 powerful benefits over the Empire: They had their hyperspace core that allowed them to move extreme distances at once, meaning that while their fleet was tiny compared to that of the Empire, The Kushan could stay on the move and strike when and where they wanted. Secondly, the Empire itself was undergoing a massive rebellion because of the horrific actions of their mad Emperor, who frankly mishandled his realm in every way possible. This meant that the loyalists where divided between garrisoning key locations, fighting off defectors, and trying to deal with the Kushan, basically chasing after them whenever they bounced around hitting whatever location they pleased. Everything else was a combination of technological advancement 'leveling out' because there is only so much that can be done to improve on the weapons being used, some stagnation in the empire itself and the Kushan either developing equivalent tech or buying it/reverse engineering it from things they find along the way. All this combined meant the Kushan soon developed technological parity with the Taiidan Empire during the war. And ofc, soon after the Taiidan splintered in various smaller factions all fighting each other, the biggest one being a loyalist group and the second biggest one becoming the core of the new Tiidani Republic. The Kushan became the Hiigarans again and at that point were easily the equals of anyone from a tech level, and soon a martial one.
