You were worried about it being too heavy for that 600. I think since you have that 600 transmission you’ll be golden. Can always change sprockets too. Wish I had the time and access to the shop you got there. I’m living vicariously through you and a few other similar channels. Truck driver job can stink for having your own time home.

I think that the front lower rear swingarm tubes should be straight. I thilnk that the curves you put in them will cause them to rotate and will increase/decrease their effective length. Angle the heim joint brackets so they point towards one another. Great build.

The three bolts you put on the hubs are the bolts that holds the hubs on, the cvx axle nut is to hold the axle in place so it don't back out of the center of the hub if. Long as you have the 3 screw threaded thru an tighten down the hub is totally fine. I'm SAE certified mechanic

Interesting trick I learned when welding a bracket that holds something between snugly between them, is to install 1 or 2 pieces of light card stock in the assembly; when it cools down, you can slide the parts out and put them back in without it binding up, but still be snug.

looking good with the buggy. it has been a few years since I last done any building... now the motor should hold up to the weight to about fifty hundred pounds, more or less. my last build out was a 2200 VW/ pouche trike. it was a ride never too be forgotten. now in my older years, I'd give anything too still have it. but then is history as they say.

Have you ever considerd to use structural strength in your things? For example your Honda CBR buggy rear suspenson is heavy duty, but the connection points to chassis are weak. For example when rear wheel is pushing forward, the force ends up to transversal pipes behind your seat, and the force will try to bend those pipes/ bend the chassis, and finally those transversal pipes will brake of from the vertical side pipe. It would be a totally different thing if there would be a longitudinal pipe, connected to same point as suspension, which would transfer the force "away" from the transversal pipe. So called continuities. You do not have to be expert, just think from where the force comes, and how you can lead the force straight forward, because force does not want to turn to any direction, it wants to go straight forward. Another very big thing is triangular brackets, always try to make connection points as triangular. Look at the connection points, the force tries to also rotate the transversal pipe, because there is nothing to stop that rotation other than the pipes own torsional stiffness. So with a couple of basic rules you will avoid 90% of the mistakes. That is why people end up building heavy duty things (as you have seen everywhere in internet), because they just do not undestand simple basic structural stiffness things. Do not copy paste those mistakes to your things.

most people dont understand just how much horsepower 100hp actually is, for refrence a '76 VW beetle weighs roughly 1200 - 1300lbs and only has roughly 50hp but will run 85mph all day, so your motorcycle engine should have plenty of oomph to get that rig rolling and doing what you want it to do, sweet build man, cant wait to see the first test drive, its gonna be awesome
@michaeldickerson8470
@michaeldickerson8470 5 лет назад
Even at 50 horsepower the VW has way more torque compared to the 600cc with a hundred horsepower.. this build needs torque not horsepower
@jeeper426

@@michaeldickerson8470 agreed, i think thats what hes going for with the jackshaft, reduce speed to increase torque at given RPM

To help with the change in camber angle, If you move the upper wish bone mounting points on the frame further away from the centre line of the buggy then shorten the wishbone to suit will greatly reduce camber affects because the relation between the differences in pivot points

Please. Take a look at the ROD END IN BENDING. ESpecially in the front. I ve dealt with it on my buggy. Basically the only thing you should be worried about is mounting the reaction from strut, which is trying to bend the thread on the A-ARM. I suppose you will mount the strut on the bottom A arm. You wont have much to rework. There is a day when it bend and it will happen exactly when the load is the biggest. For example when you land.... Rear end should be fine when you moubnt the strut on the HUB HOLDER

That’s awesome it’s gonna work out way better then before. It almost look like the rear end of a Polaris razer they have a similar set up. I wouldn’t worry about the engine not having the power to push it around. The bike is geared to go 180mph so if you reduce that with a 2:1 top speed will be 90mph and you said you don’t want to go that fast. so I think just try making a 2.5:1 gear reduction I believe that will give you MAX 75mph top speed at 6th gear redlined.

Your going to need to double sheer those back side trailing arm rods. Run them right into the center of that tube, and put a tab on both sides of the rod.. It's hard to tell but it looks like you used a bolt mounted to the side of the tube, thats no good. It's going to peel right off. The other way to side mount to it would be to insert a piece of 1", 1/4 wall dom tube thru your assembly tube and run a 1/2 bolt true it and the rod end.

I doubt that. Even if he was using 120 wall, which I doubt, it wont weigh that much. in the end, strength and durability is paramount. Whoops at 35mph, or a good stuff into the ground, will leave him glad he built heavy. Plus, the ride will smooth out with the extra weight. My issue on the rear suspension is that "S" bar from the horns to the swing arms. It is going to rattle to no end.

Don't worry about those front S10 hubs. Yes, the 4X4 hubs have a nut and a CV shaft that runs though it, but the 2WD hubs don't. Just an open hole. ...and they hold up the front of a truck. If you want to see what it takes to get them to come apart, check out Abomb79s video from a week ago that shows all the fighting he had to do on the lathe to get them apart.

It always amazes me watching you make something out of nothing.. :) I had an idea for a reverse transmition.. You could make it like your two speed transmit ion.. only the second gear would turn a gear that turns another gear on a shaft and then that shaft would turn backwards. run another chain to a sprocket on that shaft, and then when you shift it will go backwards. I wish I could draw it out for you, but I dont know how to do that on the cumputer..:)

Too late, but, about the rear, to get the same setup, but not have to put so many Heim joints in, all you have to do is this. 1. delete all the Heim joints in the parallel bars at the back. They don't need to be Heim joints, and don't need to move anywhere besides on their axis of rotation. 2. on the reach-back bars, delete one of them and put a splined shaft that allows the reach-back bar to extend, doesn't need much. It does however need to be strong. And then you're set. If you do a suspension on the reach-back bar, then obviously you need to beef it up, substantially. This is how (except for putting the suspension point on the reach-back bar) they were done on old F1 cars waaay back in the day.
