You have the same problem as I do. Tend to stress about things that may never occur. There is a great chance that this awesome build has well enough power with it's current engine. You may have to play with gearing but I believe that that motor will be fine. Nearly a 1:10 Horsepower to weight makes for a damn peppy vehicle.
@dpcdc1687

@urbancampfire7253
@urbancampfire7253 5 лет назад
You can't base it around HP figure alone. It makes that power at 10.000rpm, you will have to rev it like crazy to get it to move and that won't make for a pleasant drive. 600cc is nothing, it's 4 tiny 150cc pistons.

Don't spend a bunch of cash fixing a problem you don't yet know you have ! Wait until you've at least tried the 600cc engine. Also, the need for a beefy transaxle is determined by the torque the engine puts out, not the bhp. A v8 would change the whole nature of the build = bad idea.

The reason of wathever you do going a lot bigger than you project is because you never do plans at least some sketch! Sketching save a lot of time and material. If you not familliar with sketchup or other sketch soft you could do a scale replica with 1/8 tig wire,easy to do and see what it's gonna look like. I think the roll cage is a WAY to high! What is the point to have 8 inch over your head when you sit in? I don't see any probleme with the engine.....i don't think you want to go at 150mph with this thing so gear it proportionatly for this buggy maybee something like 70 mph. 2-3 theets less in the front sprocket gonna make a huge difference,without talking about add some theet at the rear. Sketch my friend sketch ,sketch......is the best way to do thing fine!

absolutely agree, it would be good if he would actually at first put up a drawing of what he intends to and showcase that. Hes an exceptional fabricator and his lathe is genius but hes not riding a lathe. Building off the top of head was fine when it was 10hp yard carts but now were crossing that bridge between toys and transportation. I hope this buggy does not do 70 mph because those speeds is more than enough to kill. The welds are not stress tested, there is no crumble zone in the design, the brakes are well fabricated but they have no R&D behind there design. If it crashes there will be no going back.
@Timsfpvshow
@Timsfpvshow 5 лет назад
Man I know I was one of the people commenting about that engine from the 600 maybe not being big enough but all jokes aside I believe if you gear it down it will probably be better then you think. I definitely would at least try it before I dropped a bunch of money on something else. I mean a 600 cbr tops out around 140mph so you could cut that in half with the right gears and probably spin tires with no problem and still hit 70 miles per hour and honestly how much faster does it need to be? You build a lot of awesome projects that most of us can only dream about building. So you do what you had planned first and then if it’s too slow you can cross that bridge when you get there. Thanks for sharing bud

One thing is for sure that thing is gonna sound awesome! A cbr600f3 is the sound that made me fall in love with motorcycles. Put a cheap two brothers exhaust on there and you'll hear it from a mile away lol. Everyone in the offroad park will know where your at lol. And I'm pretty sure he could find a crashed 1000 or busa for cheaper than what he saw on Ebay. Just gotta find the auction or junkyard they're selling at. Only problem I see with these engines is what I posted for. They scream pretty loud in their power range. For this thing the best option would be something automatic like a Honda civic engine and trans but then it'd be a lot heavier and need heavier springs for the shocks he has but since they're king, I think, they're easy to swap out for different spring weight.

Been watching for a while never commented on anything. If you decide you dont want this engine you could go the route of a small car engine and trans (FWD) you could still use CV joints and all. Could even use an auto for driveability. Alot of the vw rail guys have went to the ecotec. Out of a cobalt/sunfire pretty much any small GM car. Alot of guys that build the Chinese buggies have gone with like a suzuki swift or geo metro. Just my 2 cents. Good looking buggy man

I think you need a few crossbeams behind the seats, currently there is not much stopping the whole frame from bending to one side in case you roll.

All else fails, you could always try an old VW flat 4. Their air cooled so no radiator there. Plus they're just about everywhere and there is a ton of aftermarket support in terms of performance parts. Great work so far. Keep it up!!!

We used on similar project as yours an engine from old Audi 80. It was V6 with 150 hp,very compact,lightweight,with low rpm torque. And it was cheap.

VW beetle 1300cc engine is your best option, I made one when I was young, it was a very funny vehicle. Regards and nice job dude

I think with the size of this thing you should look at an inline 4cylinder fwd car with the transaxle. You might be able to adapt the outputs of the transaxle to your driveshafts/cv axles. Some random wrecked 4banger with a running motor and manual trans.
