Pretty sure that "ticking" noise was just the hot exhaust/headers that were starting to cool down.

I have to say that welding the panels in seems kind of final. You could have welded in tabs and screwed them to the tabs and still had a way to remove them should the need arise.

You need a laser thermometer to check egt’s that will tell you how each cylinder is running👍if it’s hot above 400 degrees at idle it usually means lean I would check the exhaust temps first and it only looked like it was smoking out one pipe 🚗💨💨💨your buggy rocks hope you get her figured out🤘🏻🇺🇸🤜🏻🦠

Vf1000 was a v quick and powerful bike, even with the extra weightf it,s not making enough power it isn,t running correctly. When you properly raised the revs you could hear it find the sweet spot, now you need to move the sweetspot where you want it by jetting/airbox/ and possibly exhaust. Once you lose the factory set up it becomes a tedious job to regain smooth running. Well done with your projects you are very skilled .

Love the fab work you do ! Your creativity and talent is pretty amazing ! You could use a front wheel drive engine and trans from an import or domestic. Usually can get a wrecked, insurance auction. Low mile, roll over, rear impact, running damage car, for pretty reasonable. Running the stock gear box from the donor car is reliable and probably strong enough to handle the horsepower from the factory power plant. Take a Honda Civic SI , the gear box is made to handle for warranty reasons, and can be 200hp? Ford eco boost, GM ecotec power plants are good options, and if you get the whole car you can grab everything! Usually from the center of the hub to the front of the engine ( forward towards bumper ) is only 18 inches. You have more than enough room in your buggy. You could play with tire size to get a lower gear, or run it into a chain drive pushing the engine forward. Food for thought. I admire the can do attitude I get from you and the willingness to try everything even if it fails. It is truly courageous and I enjoy being entertained by your channel ! Proud of you !!!

Hi, love the video's love the content. Not something to do easily in the Netherlands. As you stated at the end. The engine swap. As a car enthusiast I would recommend a Honda 4 cilinder. There are a lot of them. Lots of parts and not to expensive. Also a big number of people who could help you. Plus a 1.6 or 2 liter would probably be enough. But since you're in the US a 2.4 K-series could also do the trick. Another one to maybe keep in mind is the Ford 2.5 liter 4 cilinder. If you take a front wheel drive then you have everything already in the package. Just make sure your wiring is a ok. You could then (if you wanted) make a chain driven wheel after the dif. So the output to keep the driveline parts you have now in the same place and keep your suspension travel the same. Otherwise this might change a bit. But enough of my rambling, keep up the good work and greetings from across the pond 🇱🇺

Been waiting for this video for a minute! Edit: Car engine the junkyard is your oyster. Transmission wise, I'd HIGHLY recommend a VW bug transaxle from the old air cooled engine, 1969 to 1977. You can get several different adapters. If I had to recommend an engine, I'd suggest a Geo Metro 1.0L 3 cylinder with throttle body fuel injection. Its essentially a glorified carburetor, but with fuel injectors. Stupid simple to use.

As soon as he said car engine swap I thought the same thing about the geo metro engine super simple and would probably fit pretty easy And just to put my 2 cents in I would use something front wheel drive so the engine and trans are compact and you wouldn't have to modify to much A k20 honda engine with a turbo would be sick to see in there and would probably make it wheelie, lots of torque and power But thats just my opinion your builds are awesome and and even if you just left it like it is its the coolest built buggy on RU-vid

glad you sorted the engine out, but yeah the exhaust smoke looks a lot clearer as well, rather than clouds of blue smoke, which means it should be running a lot better than it was performance wise. you will mainly notice the difference when trying to go up a steeper hill rather than near enough on the flat.

Ford ecoboost 4cyl. GM supercharged 3800. GM 4.3 Vortech Volkswagen Pasat 2.0 turbo early 2000`s with strait transaxle, and a whole host of foreign engines. Imo work with what u have. Work out the issues with the VF 1000 and then add boost. Use one of those superchargers like RBG. Maybe EFI as well. Either way, i`m sure whatever u decide to do will be cool. When the engine is running use a squirt bottle with water and spray each exhaust pipe individually as close to the cylinder head, then you will see how hot each pipe is. Obviously if the pipe is cold the water won’t steam up on it and that’s your dead cylinder. Buggy looks awesome. Like the side panels , gives a more finished look .

Black smoke that dissipates in seconds is too much fuel. Grey smoke that lingers is oil burning. The ticking noise on street bikes means the exhaust is rapidly cooling or heating up. Check your valve adjustments and get your carburetors synced so each cylinder gets the proper fuel mix proportionate to the other cylinders. The horsepower to weight ratio will always be greater with motorcycle and power sport equipment than with a stock car (or truck) motor. I would look for a big Honda Goldwing that is shaft drive with reverse. You can find older ones that still run great for very little money. Great video and thanks for all you do.

I know that is a 8 months video but I may help with few things. First, excuse my english. Get a electronichal thermometre (that thing looking like pistol) to determine wich cylinder isn't working. Just measere the exhaust pile next to cylinder head. After working at carburetors you need to sincronize them and after that you need to ajust the mixture. You will find the values in the repairing manual. That ticking noise is just an exhaust pipe, don't worry about it.

The problem is ethanol fuels. Ethanol attracts moisture, especially when left sitting for long periods of time. I had the same problem with my XJ. I only fill the tank once a month. Since I've switched to non ethanol fuel, the problem has been resolving itself. If I could easily drain the tank, I could clear it up right away, but XJ tanks have no drain plugs. Drain your fuel and switch to non ethanol and I think your problem will be solved. Hope this helps. God bless, stay well.

As for what transmission to use, you may want first to decide whether it would be transversely mounted or longitudinaly mounted. Longitudinally mounted? I suggest a trans one out of a porsche 914 or a VW beetle trans, depending if you want it mid or rear engine. As for engine choice in the longitudinally mounted option, there are plenty of adapters for theses transmissions with a variety of engines that can be used. From the Original VW/Porsche engine to small 4 cyls can be adapted. Transversly mounted? I think is the easiest route due to the limited size of the engine bay. A small 4 cyl and trans out of a Focus, Fiesta or even a chevy small engine are easy enough to find and work on but you could go JDM as well. Good luck and look forward to your next video. Stay safe!

Plug chops should be done under load. Example full throttle highest gear and at end off road switch ignition off. Then check. Or part throttle highest gear for a while. Neutral gear plug chops wont be good enough but it will indicate if anything is way off. That exhaust and air filter is not a problem. To my ears its running a tad lean like all motorcycles come from factory. That jetting kit would help alot!

@tonysargent1699
@tonysargent1699 4 года назад
First, the ticking noises are from the exhaust pipes cooling down. Second, you need to balance the carbs properly to get the best out of them. Third, you have more power from the motorcycle engine to find by tuning it. And if you want to change to a car engine, may I suggest a Honda civic engine/gearbox. Very tunable, very fast.
@jamesfrost5261
@jamesfrost5261 4 года назад
Motorcycle carbs have 3 stages, and depending where you are in the rpm/ throttle position depends on how and what you have to tune with them. Thos jets you were thinking of changing still might need to be jetted up. They only run on those when you are close to wide open. The rest are determined by the type of carb, you might need to raise or lower the needle for a lower rpm/throttle position.

Sounds like you need to synchronize your carbs. Also wouldnt hurt to get a different air filter. If you think you're running rich, try running it without your air filter. I second the laser thermometer idea. Keep the temps at the spark plug under 400F. Keep up the good work!

You should get racing harnesses for your buggy, it would look pretty sick!

Ticking is just heat expansion on the exhaust. My car does the same thing, my bike did it too.

Chris, have you balanced the carbies, if they need it? Also have a look at "Team Olympus" RU-vid channel and have a talk to Daniel this is what they do for a living, they are great guys and I'm sure they will offer you sound advice going forward. Great work as usual Tony from Western Australia.

Get a snatch block and some chain si you can use the winch to help you back it up. You know, from the winch to the block secured behind the cart, then back to the cart.

I know what you need... Toyota MR2... it’s a rear engine, RWD car and there is a TON of aftermarket stuff including turbo’s lots of places are importing them direct from Japan so you can get a low mileage engine complete

a lean condition would have all the symptoms you described with the exception of hesitating , it would actually backfire instead of hesitate. the ticking you heard is rapid metal expansion due to excessive heat possibly in thre cylinders or combustion temp.
