Honda Civic Rear Strut Replacement 2000. In this video I show how I remove and replace the rear struts on a Honda Civic. The exact vehicle in this video is a 2000 Honda Civic LX Sedan. 1996-2000 Civics should be similar.
Enjoy!

Hey Dave. Late to the party but I wanted to comment anyway. Great video. You cover all the important details that DIY'ers like me need to know. I'm working 2 jobs to dig out of a financial nightmare and you are saving me hundreds of dollars in parts and labor costs that allow me to keep my car on the road to get to work. I did this to my 99 Civic Coupe back in January the KYB struts are performing well so far no issues my trailing arm bushings are totally fucked when I saw them when changing the struts. For me the easy part was removing the old struts no bolts got seized car is a southern car but I sprayed the bolts on the LCA everyday for a week prior to changing the struts with KW Knocker loose from NAPA hard to say if that did anything or if the bolts would have come out without spraying them but reassembly was the hard part for me I had to keep jacking up the lower control arm to get it lined up I would get the bolt partially through but the other side where the bolt had to go through was blocked I would get one side lined up but the other side the bolt had to go through got blocked when I got the blocked side to line up the other side would then be blocked and the bolt can't be tightened all the way I got the bolt partially started and then I had to either jack up the LCA or push down on the drum to get the bolt to go through the other side hard to remember what exactly I had to do since I did this a little over two months ago but the type of pry bar used in the video is a big help for this job I got the pack of pry bars with a pointed edge from harbor freight it helped me a lot with this.

Dave another good video. Thanks for taking the time to record it. I noticed the KYB struts looked to have more coils incorporated in the spring assembly. guess because they are aftermarket or it makes no difference? How do you like KYB components? Liked the video and now time for coffee out of my new Mikes Disgrunteled Mechanics coffee mug. Should make it quite enjoyable. Just a side note your shop looks great. Clean and organized. My way of working. Have a great day 👍👍👍

Hello, I followed your video three years ago and everything worked great. Was wondering if you could point me in reliable ADJUSTABLE struts for this 2000 Honda Civic LX please. I would like to raise my car height a little higher as it is difficult to get out since it is so low. Thank you. Will be watching this again when I replace my struts again. thanks.
@NextLevelAutoDiagnostics

Another excellent tutorial! I think this might be the first time you didn't go genuine oem. (I thought you said the hooks shouldn't be used as jack points.) The old struts weren't leaking nor were the springs broken.....what made you change them?
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 4 года назад
I like KYB struts and use them a lot. The rear hook that I used to jack up the car is a designated lift point by Honda on this model. The old struts did not handle well, and really showed how badly they were performing after replacing the front. Thanks for the comment!

The shock replacements I ordered don't have the nut welded on to the base. This is the first major suspension job I'm trying. Is it safely equivalent to procure and install your own nut in lieu of the welded-on nut? I see now some replacements for sale have the nut, some don't. Thanks. Enjoyed the video. Mike

Why put the tire & rim under the car that costs hundreds of dollars instead of just leaving the jack or an extra jack stand that only costs 20$?
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 3 года назад
Because the the tire(s) needs to be placed somewhere out of my way so I am not tripping on it, and a second jack stand would not be supporting the vehicle so it could be knocked over or get in the way and most likely not be able to be placed under the car in an area where it could catch it without causing damage. If the vehicle falls off the jack stand, I am worth much more than a rim or a cheap jack stand.
