I love your videos from start to finish, but you really have mastered the art of the intro. Every time I start a video of yours I am IMMEDIATELY hooked. Without a doubt my favorite long-form automotive content on RU-vid right now. Onward and upward!
Championship White is my favorite Honda color and you did a great job showing it! Paint color nuances are hard to capture on video and I don't think I've ever seen it done like that before. Informative, well written, well shot, well edited: this is an excellent video. Keep it up King
Loving your vids, nice to a fresh take to someone reviewing these kinds of cars. I got a car with bolstered seats, no one ever mentions that if you have hips, it definitely can get uncomfy!
This is one of my favorite cars! I’ve always loved this Civic! Brilliant job Alanis! Might I add, the classical music…chef’s kiss….it’s like elegant meets sporty! Brilliant, just brilliant!
I honestly was the same as you when this got revealed. Disappointed. However I’ve grown to appreciate it. I test drove this along with a GRC but ended up with a GR because the civic felt too refined. I honestly love it, but I just had a goofier smile on the GRC. I still love the new type R! Great video btw
As a content creator I understand and appreciate the use of public domain music. As a classically trained musician, I love the choices made. As an automotive content creator and consumer the volume is a bit high at times and pulls from what’s important… YOU, Alanis! (And the car, if we’re being fair and honest) Still enjoy watching your own take on reviews and internerainment!
I'll always be a Honda lover, but I actually prefer the looks of the Corolla. I find it very cute, while the Civic looks like a huge sedan. For a GR or R, I guess I would take the Civic, since #1 its more sleepery #2 I love Hondas and #3 better engine imo. For a base model I would prefer the Corolla cause it's much more cute. 🐱
See this is why alanis's videos are so good. This is the first time after a million Civic type r videos that I learn about the exhaust and muffler system. Thank you, Alanis!
Newbie to your videos. Like your summary of the CTR, I have been around a while in the enthusiast car scene. So, I am a little surprised this is the first time I have seen one of your videos. To make a long story short, I am very impressed. Bravo!
Nice review and nice car.The MSRP Is I think fairly appropriate for this car , but can't stohmach dealing with those people at the dealership and their disgusting markups.
I wanna be a honda boy again lol as I loved my rsx type s but just can't get past the no e brake incase I have to winter drive it or wanna hoon. And I love the customizability of my Veloster N and pops n bangs. So glad I picked up my 22 VN with no mark up instead of marked up FK8 or holding out for FL5/ITS or GRC
No idea as to your industry background, but, my god, are you unusually well-spoken. I was genuinely taken aback. Very unexpected. So many car reviewers can't help but fall into Bro Speak. You sound like a professional presenter.
10:53 Excellent point. Two great cars with two different vibes after years of not having an option (if a CTR is all one wanted) is pretty damn sweet. The markups ruin it but that just means people have to be more diligent to find the good priced ones. Get them while you can! When I bought my Focus RS I thought it was going to be around a while and it was here for just 3 years 😅
Champ white is one of those colors that really needs to be appreciated in person. Now is this car worth its MSRP? I can’t think of many new cars that can do as many tasks efficiently as the type r.
Considering that is a 4 door - 4 passenger vehicle. There isn't other similar car that perform better (in every category) for less money. This includes the Integra Type S MSRP too. *There are a few that might accelerate faster in a straight line but that is all.
Hopefully Acuity will make a shifter for the FL5 soon. I believe Hybrid Racing has one already. I have the Acuity in my FK8 and OMG does it feel so good!
Just here to make you all aware of the Civic Type R, SuperGT GT500 car that is making its debut this weekend racing over in Japan replacing the NSX, thing looks insane
You had me at “book paper” … Thanks for a solid in-depth, informative and fun review of the benchmark Hot Hatch! I’m a Hyundai N fan myself but even I realize that THIS is the car they are compared too … and GR Corolla is compared to this as well. And I agree with the gaudy looks of the previous as I like the gaudy JDM mech-looking car more than the mature version of this generation. Quick question, what’s the price point where you start getting performance in a vehicle that isn’t plastic-y on the inside? I have no issues with the plastic-fantastic of the entire hot hatch market of vehicles even at my still car-immature age of 55 🤣 Thanks for a great way to spend 30 minutes this morning.
Aw! Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate you watching. Price point for less plastic is an interesting question. Honestly, you get piano black on some really expensive cars - some Bentleys have it. The LC 500 ($100,000) is one of my favorite interiors ever, and has no bad materials
Like the Civics of old, the Elantra N grows on you. My 2023 6MT EN has 57000km of daily driving in the city (rideshare). For outright performance, after seeing what the EN can do, I would not give the nod to the Type-R. It's limits is always a surprising.
When I first saw the black rear seats, I found that to be really annoying cost-cutting. Although it probably is cost-cutting, I do think it actually looks good and lets the red accents and sporty, quality front seats stand out when you're looking at the car from the outside. Also, it might be too much red if those were also red. Red interiors tend to look better when there is a good balance of black/red/other colors or materials to contrast with.
When you whipped out that book I just knew it was gonna be Racing With Rich Energy, and it was not a disappointment. And your husband is doing a fantastic job of editing these videos
As a weekend car it’s great fun😊 as a daily drive it’s just too stif to drive and the torque steering is evident in the 1st 2 or 3 gears especially in the wet😂 If you put 4 adults in it and do a weekend trip your passenger keep complaining about the noise and the harsh ride. Good review cheers from Oz🇦🇺
Nope! I don’t work with Doug anymore. This is just me (narrative, script, presentation), and my husband (filming, editing, animations, and visuals). Thanks for watching and enjoying!
Be curious to know what you think about the Integra Type S. I like the looks better and no markups (at least here in VA). Been thinking about replacing my M2 Competition with the Civic or Integra for better kiddo access to the back seat, but not sure if either FWD car will live up to my expectations after having the M2. It will be a tough act to follow.
FYI The gear grind issue can be fixed by simply running a different transmission fluid. Most people recommend running Amsoil Synchromesh. I switched to it, and have never experienced the grind since.
22:00 well thats odd, the CTR had pretty apparent fake engine noise last I was told. Did they decide to drop it for this model year? Or did the owner disconnect it
I don’t *think* I said there was no noise enhancement! If I remember correctly, I think I said it doesn’t sound super false and fake (which it does in some cars)
Championship White: it's supposed to be the linen of a rising sun flag. Linen rarely gets bleached to bright-bright white. P.S. Unpopular, but reasoned opinion: Nearly zero cars should be painted white. Almost none. It's more beige than beige. - Honda Type-Rs can be Champion White - Mazda FC RX-7 Turbo-II - Lamborghini Countach in Cocaine White with a red interior - Shelby Mustangs as long as they have dark blue stripes. That's the whole list. As Kristin says "alternate opinions will not be accepted at this time."
Is it just me that feels the front doesn’t match the rear end? I think the front looks elegant and matured while the rear end looks dopey and saggy. In my opinion they should have gave it the SI rear end to match the front.
I haven't driven the Elantra N in a few years, but I really like it. I didn't review it at the time, so I don't have enough notes to give you a straight comparison
The answer to the video title is NO. Just like the Integra Type S, the Fl5 Type R offers less performance than the Fk8, for a pretty significant price increase. If you want value, buy an Fk8 or a Hyundai or something.
If you can find one for MSRP it's not a bad value, but that doesn't mean it's a good value. I don't know why idiots pay more than $50k before taxes and fees for a Civic.
The American perspective is funny for this car. The previous version was a 'silly little hot hatch.' In Europe it isn't all that little, so the over-the-top looks make a really ostentatious mid-sized car, nothing cute about it at all.
You’re listening on a different audio device than it was edited on. If you look at the other comments, lots of people said this and I told them it would improve on every new video. It did
The only problem this car has for an American market is It’s a stick shift So no one is going to buy it Because you need two hands to drive it So you can’t hold a burger and fries
