Just a simple quick walk around review following a 300 mile day in the Honda E.
It’s a brilliant little Electric car, although the limited range and charge speed do make it more suited to moderate city and commuting mileage than long distance road trips.
It does come cheap, but it is well made, drives well and includes a very high specification.

Useable battery capacity is about 32 kWh. I recently bought one second hand, which knocked almost a third off the current list price. It fits my driving needs (mostly short distances) and living situation (charging from solar panels) perfectly. Smooth and comfortable ride, even on 17" wheels. Peppy motor, RWD, 50/50 weight distribution and independent suspension all around make it an absolute hoot to drive. Maybe not the 'best' EV out there, but (to me) definitely the coolest :)

Richard, I love all your videos. You are obviously a Tesla man, but open to look at all other EV's. It's so refreshing to have someone looking at vehicles so objectively without all the whooping and yeehaaring. Please keep them coming.

The range is absolutely fine for the type of car it is designed to be...a high end city commuter. If you want double the range for around the same cost, buy a Hyundai Kona...

Interesting review Richard. The main thing that puts most people off EVs is range. This and the Mini E, both suffer from being quite expensive with small batteries. When for around the same money, KIA and Hyundai offer reasonably stylish alternatives that'll cover at least 2.5 times the distance between charges, I guess the sales people at Honda have quite a job on their hands...

Price and range is the killer for this car, it needed to be either be 10k cheaper or 100 miles more range. As it is, it’s a great looking, neat little car, that’s slightly under-range and over priced

Love the car and the looks based upon the original Civic apparently. Pity a bigger battery option or a bigger brother was never made to accompany it. Great vlog as always. Best wishes

thanks for the review....its a desirable vehicle and have seen a quite lot of them around in London but it does still feel like a high price - given what else is available. But small has not equalled cheap for a long time now. Zoe /500/mini as alternatives segment wise

Great review as always! I love the looks of the car inside and out but that charging rate ugh and also they shouldve added a bit more battery especially for the price compared to other EV makers in the similar price range that have more range but maybe for its size there was no room(?). Seen an odd one here and there but not many, guess Honda isnt going for big numbers yet. I see it as their "test" and "compliance" car, pretty one though

Honda e is currently £36k - £42k in the UK, Tesla Model 3 is £48k - £61k. Very different prices for very different cars.

I love everything about the car, except it’s price and range. Feels to me like Honda were trying to demonstrate that electric cars aren’t economical or viable. They need to change, fast, or they will not survive the transition to electric.

This is one of the best mini evs but sadly too expensive and range is too short, I thought it would turn into a Best Buy small evs before I learned about the price, we’ll probably done that on purpose by Honda We need same car less unnecessary tech and screens but 80miles more range and 10 grand off the price , will sell like a hot cake

No, because as the cost of electricity rises, it becomes more costly to refine oil, so the cost of petrol and diesel will rise by default. It's unlikely that the running costs of most EV's will be eroded....

RWD so what the hell is all that crap under the bonnet? Bad packaging. . The MG5 is FWD and has enough room for a massive aftermarket (Pound land) plastic box to be fitted under the nose.

As some others have, you are missing the whole point of this car. It was designed as a high end city commuter. As such, the vast majority of it's users will charge once or twice a week, overnight at home. The average UK daily commute is 20.8 miles.

@@Brian-om2hh Brian there are others cars that do it much better for far cheaper. All EVs drive nicely so even that does not play in the Honda’s favour. It has been a sales flop. Honda do not really seem to want this to sell. At £38k it simply won’t sell.

@@brooksietyper maybe you and others consider £38k a high price but price is ultimately subjective. I bought one of the first registered in the UK for my wife as a city car and it's absolutely perfect. Looks great, drives great, does 100 miles in all weathers. Would happily do a 150 mile + round trip with a charging stop at or near your destination but if we want the longer range we take my M3P.

Yet you're the one paying top dog for petrol, and most of the efficiency it produces is wasted as heat..... On the right energy tariff, this car would cost around 1.5p per mile to run. You'll be paying 20p plus per mile....

@@Brian-om2hh Honda website PCP from £449 a month for 36 months plus a deposit of £7500. 8000 miles per annum which is approximately £1 a mile before charging costs and insurance. If you can show me where to purchase and run one for 1.5 pence a mile I will order one today.

I don’t understand how these could be considered city cars, apart from the emissions. City cars have always been very small which this isn’t but still capable of driving long distances easily- which this can’t. We need small EVs that young people can afford but can still drive over 200 miles on a charge.

Sadly, Japanese ev cars lacks ingenuity. Their design is basically a make over from the old models. Its batteries is outdated and probably a fire hazard due to its inability to pass a penetration test. In my view, japanese ev cars will suffer the same fate as PC and mobile phone.

I think with the Government trying to force everyone to go electric there needs to be more affordable cars, I personally wont be going electric due to the cost of the cars, charging times and range of cars, at £35K I would be looking at a used Tesla, I did not work out the charging cost but it don't look that cheap at £8.71 for axp a 70% charge with I guess a 70 mile range from the charge? Petrol is not that much more expensive,
