You are the best! 240,000 miles and the trans started to shift hard 1-2 and 3-4 immediately after I let vehicle sit for a 3 week vacation. went to multiple "reputable" trans shops, $2800-3200 for rebuilds. did exactly as you said and the trans works perfectly. if I can get your info I would gladly buy you a steak dinner. Thanks Mike
Would just like to add that this video is right on the money. I took my element to a transmission shop and was told I needed a new transmission. I fixed the shifting problems for less than $100 by switching the solenoids as recommended in this video. Can't thank you enough!
@@redbaronat7238 hi redbaron.love your videos.i have a 2000 honda stream that isnot shifting from 3rd to 4th.would tis fix still apply to my car, thanks in advance for any reply
will these shift solenoids cause the transmission to hesitate going in gear and will it cause it to slip in and out of gear especially in Drive on a 2006 Honda CVR? when I put it in low position it will go in gear a lot faster and more seems more solid and same thing with second Drive it takes it longer you sit there a few seconds and then it will like grab and then let go grab and let go it's not like it's slipping it just let's go like it in neutral and then it will go back in gear and then back out and so forth hope I'm making sense will it cause this problem? and this started all of a sudden no warning, I would appreciate any help or input you could give me👍🏻
@@americanpatriot2448 First thing to check is your fluid level. NOTE. Use only Honda transmission fluid or you will be sorry. We purchased our Honda Element, same drivetrain, at 150,000 miles and it acted the way you described. Went into gear but would hang up forever then pow, grabbed and went into the next gear. 1/2 - 2/3 and would fall back or, go into neutral. Changing the solenoids took me 45 minutes. I purchased them used from a wreckers. Worked from the get go but did get much smoother over time. I also performed a Honda 3x3 fluid change which probably helped.
Wow I’m sitting in my car right now thanking god for this video I’ve been stressing for a week and they told me the samething I would need a new one. This video saved my life
what's funny is even a 5 yr tranny can be rebuilt.. it just doesn't need to. The transmission shops only have one answer: "rebuild now!" - Thing is if you kill yourself on the highway, shops don't want your liability for a simple $50 repair.... right?
I replace the dual solenoid last year on a CRV I picked up "needing a trans", the person I bought the car from had an independent transmission shop and local Honda dealer tell them it needed a rebuild. The issue this car had was between 1st and 2nd gear the transmission would slip coming out of 1st and slam into second. The solenoid was just as shown in this video. I ended up buying an aftermarket solenoid and the car shifted perfectly, I was very happy. I wish this video was available last year (I looked everywhere before just getting down to business to figure it out myself)! Great work explaining.. I should have pulled a solenoid from a pick and pull yard!
I want to say thank you for that video I was able to replace both solenoids, unfortunately I could not get them from a salvage yard, and I did not want to spend $900.00 dollars from Honda, I purchased the solenoids from Amazon $178.00 for Both. Shifting problems are fixed, thank you.
Hello... Can you please help me? Can i use 8th gen honda accord 2.4L automatic shift solenoids in 7th gen accord The solenoids here for 7th gen accord are rarely available... But the 8th gen are easily available. Both solenoids appear the same but their connecting sockets are litte bit different and their part number are different too.. My transmission also from 1st to 2nd with some slipping and a jerk sound (Sorry for my bad english)
Thanks for this information. I just purchased a Honda CRV that needs a couple things before it’s drivable. I took it for its first drive today, first gear was fine, but when it shifted to second, it fell into what felt like neutral, and eventually made its way into second gear After a complete stop. I drained the transmission fluid, definitely looked like it needed changing, but not horrible. I’ll start by pulling the solenoids and giving them a once over.
@@redbaronat7238 took my linear solenoid off as I'm having this same problem. But my pipe joints don't have screens in them. All 4 have no screens whatsoever. its 2002 crv i think the first year they used this model. Have you seen any without screens? I hope they aren't dislodged and clogged in there somewhere
@@redbaronat7238 Hi! Thank you for the great video. I am having an issue with my Acura TL 2003 where I only have shifting issues once the car gets warm (about 30 min after driving). The transmission is completely fine initially, but then it starts shifting hard or taking too long to shift. Do you know if that is likely associated with this shift solenoid? If not, what else do you think that may be the reason? Thank you.
@@renatoamorimtorres7915 The TL uses a different transmission and it has known/documented issues which are typically mechanical in nature, not solenoids 9 times out of 10. It was simply a terribly designed transmission that has nothing but issues. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Good luck
I'm working on the same thing right now. There's one more very important solenoid. It's on the front drivers side of the transmission on my 05 odyssey. I believe it's the tc lockout solenoid. When you remove it, there's a bowl shaped screen that will likely be full of metal shavings and particulates, clean it and if you ca find one, replace the gasket. It's a rubber direct fit gasket that drops into groves all around the solenoid mating surface. Also, clean all of the old debris and grime off of the Trans mating surface or you chance transmission fluid seepage from one orifice to another, effectively defeati the purpose of cleaning it out at all.
Thanks I went to 2 mechanics and one told me it could be a solenoid or the transmission and would need a rebuild… he said to drive it till it breaks down. Didn’t sit well with me. Went to another mechanic and he told me he couldn’t fix it because he didn’t have a transmission key and the previous mechanic erased the codes. So now I’m scrambling to figure it out and know the terminology to be able to understand may be happening. This is helpful now to find an honest mechanic that want to do the work.
I'm having transmission problems on my 2004 crv. Random transmission slipping on all gears...otherwise it drives fine for the most part. Changed solenoid A B and C (brand new). Changed fluid twice. Still getting error code p0780 and p0755. Car will drive fine then start slipping out of nowhere or feels like it goes into nuetral while driving. Any help would be appreciated.
Excellent analysis of the problems ( solenoid and screens), only suggestion would be to show how battery (12v source) is connected; for the folks new at this.
Just did this jib today... ran the car and perfect... gasket was broken (c solinoid=2 to 3)... sprayed mas spray on it with 12 v and on and off to clean.. also changed the rubers on all little sticks.. thank you for this video
Hey bru thanks for that video,I have a problem with my Honda fit transmission gearbox it only engage reverse gear when it's cold, but once it's hot all the gears engage what could be the problem
Yo Ajay quick question I need your help bro I’m having issue with slipping gear ⚙️ and there is a little kicking too and I use the scanner and I have these codes p0777 p1745 p1780 p0745 p0761 please help me and I just bought the car three months ago this is not honest mechanic bro they are lying They telling me need to rebuild transmission the car go on lil mode D flashlight bro
$5 a piece! You are lucky, they are $25 for a single and $50 plus $5 core for a pack at LKQ. Next time just cut the wires to the connector - makes it a lot easier to provide power and ground. 🙂
Is this also related to Accord 3.0 Vtec?. It hits hard if I accelerate enough. When cold is fine but after it warms up say about 10min then it slips then hit hard.
My 2003 Pilot has engine light on and I used Blue drive scan with code PO748 and it said possible PC solenoid has failed. Should I repair or replace? Thanks
Transmission repair has to be the BIGGEST SCAM in the car repair industry! Unless the vehicle is less than 5 years old, EVERY time I've taken a non-shifting transmission to a "specialist" transmission shop, they have all said that I needed to replace the transmission. I've taken 6 cars in the past 20 years to these shops and in all cases they said it needed a replacement transmission (no rebuild was even offered). Out of those 6 cars, only TWO actually needed new transmissions after my uncle (who is a true transmission specialist) tore them apart. One repair was so simple: he found that the speedometer was not working correctly (on a Toyota Corolla). He fixed the speedo and boom, car shifted perfectly. That was in 2002 and the car still runs today with 352, 000 miles on it.
I think not. Burning smell usually indicates a more serious issue. Eg. Internal wear. (it's sometimes also caused by low fluid level or over-used fluid). In any case, I suggest you change your transmission fluid asap. When doing so, check the old fluid for any particles of metal. If present, you have internal wear.
Good job Red. I just pulled mine and found the exact problem, 1st and 2nd sounded weak (bottom, black connector). I ordered a rebuilt, tested OEM Honda solenoid on eBay for $60. Hopefully, it'll do the trick. Keep going.
Don’t you know every time you bring an automatic transmission to the shop they recommend a rebuild, they did it to my car or actually my trailblazer truck two times, and both times I found out it was a sensor they never rebuilt nothing they charged my insurance company $3500 each time I reported it to the insurance company and they took care of The situation swiftly
I was wondering if u could help I have 01 crv and it seems to have trouble going to second. If I drive it hard its fine. But I take it easy I have to feather the throttle for it to accelerate properly
My 04 element ex is reviving up and jerking into gear from a stop and also a hesitation from 2nd to 3rd with no codes it seems better from a cold start but gets worse once hot
Just curious the symptoms you were having on that 1-2 2-3 shift. I’ve got inconsistent shifting between those ratios. 1-2 hangs and kinda pulls as it shifts. Feels like a solenoid, but curious if you were having similar issues. Thanks!!
Please help.... I have a honda accord 7th gen 2.4L automatic i have problem from shifting 1 to 2 , i think it is this solenoid as it only shifts from 1 to 2 if i only let off the throttle but it shifts perfectly when it shifts to 3 4 5... The solenoid is not available as a used part because this car are very few here... So i have a doubt that will the solenoids of 8th gen 2.4 L accord will work as 8th gen accord used spares are available because the 8th gen accord are more here. Can anyone help me by saying whether the 8th gen accord solenoid will work on 7th gen accord 2.4L Note: 8th gen accord automatic has a sports mode with paddle shifters but not the 7th gen accord also the part numbers of 8th gen and 7th accord Solenoids are different but they appear the same (Sorry for my bad english)
pls mine is honda crv 2005 when i start to move on gear one for it to change to gear two..it will rather go neutral...then later back to one ..then atimes shift hard to gear 2 and remain there untill i slow down it goes back to gear 1 and the D atimes blinks....BUT SOMETIMES IT CHANGE SMOTHLY TO ALL THE GEARS BUT MOST TIMES IT DOESNT...CAN THIS SOLENOID BE THE PROBLEM?
If this account is still active whatd it feel like when they were first going out? My 04 CRV will only downshift from 2nd to 1st if i start accelerating again which cause for a jolt and really bothers me. Never slips and feels strong but I (with my limited experience) swear it’s not right.
I’m currently having a problem with my Tsx ,it would be driving fine and then all of A sudden it pops out of gear, then it the d light would start flashing and this shii scared me because I never know when it happenes I just shut off the car and the I turn it back on and it’s fine into a few miles so I’m considering being a solenoid problem because after I disconnect the battery and cleared the codes it ran fine for weeks ! Help please
Thanks for the video… I did the pick and pull thing and my shift from 2nd to 3rd got worse so I bought one off of eBay and it still flares but now I have the flashing D any suggestions? Thank you ahead of time
On the Honda fan sites everybody says NO to the ebay cheapos. Used, you tried and got what you had. New ones are $$$$. Someone here said AMazon paid just under 200 for both and they work great. good luck. I"m getting ready to take mine down. I have 1-2 slam and flares on 3-4. Sounds like I need both.
would this problem also result in a "hard" drop in first gear when you come to a stop. You literally feel it Slam into first gear coming to a stop at a light and the car does not downshift when you need to accelerate. I'm told a rebuild for $2200.
My pilot was shifting fine I had error codes said shift solenoid B stuck something like that. I removed that same module you have after cleaning the tubes that have mesh screens, I proceeded to test with a 12V 10-amp transformer I use for Ham radios. At first it wasn't clicking I sprayed some WD 40 in the ports and kept working it noticed some gunk running out then both shift solenoids were moving and making the same sound. The actual coil might not be bad could be just the piston is gummed up. Too bad can't remove the actual piston and clean it out could not find a hex bit to fix that plug.
I have crv 2014, recently i start nothing the car jumps forward when i stop on red light and this is happening once in a week. Do you think this related to solenoid shifting A?
Does it effect the mileage and would that correct hard shifts like going up even slight hills it quickly goes to 4 to 5 rmps especially on Cruise control and it has no get up and go
wow thanks, I changed my transmission solenoid yesterday to a new one and its now worse, so im gonna try cleaning the old one and putting it back. didnt know those cylindrical pipes could come out. i'll be sure to clean those too
I’m having the same problem with my CR-V 04 but my has 249,000 miles it may be that is really old but I will try it ASAP, first time someone explain exactly what I need (I’m going to subscribe to your channel right now 💯)
Hi I have a 2006 Honda Pilot AWD 4x4 . I turned on to a street and I heard a loud pop and then grinding I stop and put it in park and nothing. What a mean is there was not park or any gear. The shifter was free no resistance. Mind you Iprior to that i have not had any problem at all with transmission. COULD IT BE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ?
Will i have to drain the transmission fluid before changing this or is it above the reservoir level? is it high enough up that i can remove it without making a mess if i don't drain the fluid?
i have 2002 honda civic 1.7 automatic and the transmission wont shift to third gear and it just goes to first and second gear. What could be the problem?
My 2007 Honda Pilot doing this from first to second gear until it gets real warm in winter, but ok in summer. I'll tell my boys about your video. Thanks👍🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi, did you ever had the chance to do this procedure? My 07 pilot is kind of shifting a little hard when the engine and transmission are cold. It goes away after 20 of driving thanks.
@@alexandercuello3168I know that this is a little late but if you do a drain and refill on your transmission, you might see a big difference. I have a 2016 Acura MDX and I do a little towing with a trailer. I have found that the Valvoline synthetic works great.
Dang, your advice sounds perfect. Having the same experience all around. Got mine for 500 with 180 to 190 thousand miles same issues... thanks for the video. I thought I was screwed.
I have a 1983 Honda Accord (barn find) with 45,000 original miles. I changed the valve cover gasket recently, and when I finished, I found that I had (1) high rpm idle and (2) high rpm shifting. The car is a 4-speed automatic. I repaired a cracked vacuum line to the carburetor that fixed the high idle, but I still have a high rpm shifting. The fluid level is fine, and the fluid is red. Do you know if this 1.8-liter engine has a vacuum line from the intake manifold to the transmission? And does it have a modulator valve? Any added info about what could be causing this will be appreciated. Thanks
man my crv s can run but not very long distance and vwhen its cold you vand rive but after under one kilometer it s stops and can i just clean that solenoids i mean i have not enough money just it can run but i think its from dirty fluid and idk if if i chanje oil and clean solenoids what do you think is it work?
I have questions....when putting the solenoid back on the transmission am i supposed to put the cylinders First on the solenoid then install? like as shown in the video or place the cylinders back on the transmission then the solenoid? Btw thankyou for this video going to work on this crv i have i just wanted to double check.
My 07 Element is slipping badly on the 1-2 shift. Seems like transmission goes into neutral on the 1-2 shift. Other gear changes are fine. Will changing the solenoids help with this?
hello my dear friend, I have a honda cr v 2002, d flashes when switching from 3 to 4 gear, but there are no errors, I checked the solenoid the sound is good, what could it be? thanks
Mine, when driving with little pressure on the pedal, shifts and sounds like it's about to stall. It's as if when it goes from 2nd gear it jumps into 4th gear and that is making it feels that way.
Hi mate my honda crv petrol auto 2007 starts making a loud humming noise whilst driving over 25mph ,checked front and rear wheel bearings, they're OK, I'm now told it s probably the transferbox any help please,
is it this the same with civic 2001? because i can’t find that 3 to 4 gear solenoid which is that your saying is in from on the top of the transmission thanks
Oh yes. This would apply. Not sure the solenoids will be in the exact same location as this but I suspect they would, cos engine is same. For the wires, you could simply use red and black single core 4mm cables. Just peel the tip of each at one end and connect the other end to a battery.
I've got a 2002 Civic and getting a whining noise from the trans... it has 159000 miles on it.. slipped going into 3 from 2nd.... would a dual linear shift solenoid solve the whining and shift problem? Getting code P0730...........???????????????????? Is Castrol Transmax fluid good to use in it????????????????? It holds 6 qts total but can only drain out about 3 qts .....
I have an 06' element that I believe is slipping the rpms will rev up and not go anywhere, few years ago I replaced the transmission filter. it has fluid, any thoughts?
My Element is a manual, but my 04 Accord 2.4 auto trans is starting to delay, shifting from 1st to 2nd. I suspect your diagnosis is the problem I am having. Would this fix apply to the Accord automatic transmission too? BTW, my brother-in-law just bought an 05 Element auto w/313K miles. It’s runs quiet and shifts perfectly.
Do you have a breakdown video. I am a newbie, but did work on some cars before. But did not work on cars for more than 2 decades. so my confidence is low. I would appreciate if you have a video of the removal. so I would have some confidence in do it. if not some advice, my problem sound almost the same and I have 2004 CRV.
These are not shift solenoids. The big block "dual liner solenoid" is a pressure control solenoid to regulate the transmission pressure for all the solenoids to work. The smaller one may be a shift solenoid depending on if its a 4 speed or 5 speed. If 5 speed then it would be for for 3rd gear or 4 speed would be for the torque converter. The shift solenoids are a single canister solenoid that either has a black or brown connector and sit on top of the transmission and or on the side of the case. I'm my lifetime of transmission rebuilding, i have replaced the solenoids on Honda's 1% of the time. If the are bad, its usually due to a lot of clutch material from the from major wear in the transmission and the internal filer can no longer filter the material and it gets into the solenoid and causes the valves to stick like he is showing here when testing for movement. You can replace the solenoid but its only a matter of time before the transmission fails.
