People don't realize that impacts are very controllable and for me when I use them, I have never stripped any bolts whatsoever. But impacts are still very helpful because sometimes you need to break stubborn bolts.
Completely agree with you on using impact on everything. When I'm working on car, if I could get to it with my impact guns or air ratchet, that's why I'm using. My small engines also of course.
Just keep doing what ur doing I like the loud mufflers and every thing u do and it's ur house he that guy can't tell you what to do with ur house don't listen to him
On a stationary, low speed, or under a hood of a piece of equipment yes the cooling shrouds are duct work to help direct the air to help cool. On a go cart or mini bike moving at faster speeds as long as the engine is out in the open the shroud isn't needed. And yes I actually tested it with a temp gun on my son's mini bike because we wanted the polished engine to be as out in the open all shiny as we could get it. That little piece made zero difference.
I raced gopeds for years and that plate was a nessesity even doing 45mph on a scooter with a chainsaw engine. Lawn equipment engines are not meant for high RPM for any period of time because the oiling and cooling systems were only designed to work well between 2-3k rpm we even used to toss the factory ones I and even make upgraded aluminum ones. We also ran engines that normally rev'd to 14.5k at 21k rpm and could usually get 1-2 race seasons out of an engine. Just saying, cooling is very important on these types of engines and should not be skimped on for visual aspect.
The throttle plate is part of the fan shroud and helps cool the motor. If anything just remove the arm and put the tin back on to help the engine from over heating.
Red, I use my nut driving gun on everything & I have just about every 1/4 " drive tool you can imagine . I pride myself in tear down speeds...........Thumbs up buddy.
Hey! Great channel RB! Extremely informative content! I’ve got a 9 hp Honda that i plan to slightly build . I ordered a toque converter for it and plan to use on my Colman ct200 mini bike. Any thoughts or suggestions? Keep up the great work. How ironic is it that this episode popped up 4 years later on the same day I ordered torque converter!!?
I wouldn’t recommend removing the throttle control plate. it’s also a cooling tin for air flow around the head. I’d just remove the mechanism that’s bolted on.
You have your doubts about that carburetor, mine was just as bad on a GX160, the complete engine was horrible, trashed. sitting outside for 5 years on a compactor. I rebuilt it with a rusted and wavy cylinder seized piston rings and everything just cleaned it all up slapped it back together and she ran pretty good other than a little bit of smoking. The Hondas don't know when to quit
watched your show before and i gotta say you my friend have come way up!!! good job oh anf yeah F@#k the haterz!!! they are just butt hurt wen they see someone doin better than themselves!!! keep doin what yer doin!!!
Hey Red Beard, love the videos, and the time you take, cheers from Oz. Quick one, is it necessary to remove the governor as a part of the header / jet / K&N style filter upgrade? I'm confident to do everything up to the open heart surgery of the governor removal. Thanks in advance!
big block Honda's are the baddest engines out there I know guy's that gx390s on shifter style racing karts on road course track at 100mph you can make 30+HP just with Bolt ons all torque and gear
so which carb worked best with the gx270 clone? I want to do performance upgrades on my gx270 clone, should I get the gx390 carb? or maybe a gx340 carb? I can likely make my own exhaust. I'm kinda on a budget, I could also re-jet my factory carb if that's beneficial at all...? thanks
Red Beard's Garage I bought and installed a gx340 carb like you did in this video. Do you have footage of it running? When I installed the 340 carb it idled fine but seemed to fall on its face at open throttle. Sounds like too lean? Perhaps I can swap main jet to rectify that? I also changed the sparkplug since returning to the original carb, and the new plug makes a big difference I think. The 270 works good I'm just hoping for a little more mild performance. Any recommendations? Thanks
i dont know why he hating on a impact i dont have a battery powered one i wish i did but i have a air powered one and it comes in handy it just quickens disassembly so you can fic the problem or mod it and put it back together in half the time of a socket wrench
Which do you think would be better to use on a off road go kart a slightly modded Honda clone 6.5hp or a stock genuine Honda gx340 which only has the governor taken if it which do you suggest would be the best engine to use
What chain do you run with high HP engines like this? I have a 9hp Subaru Robin, and going to run a 35 Chain on my race kart with it and a torque converter. Will I have chain issues. Have you ever had strength issues with 35 Chain?
Little confused on the carb upgrade. I get that the opening is bigger for obvious reasons but if the head opening is the same 20mm. Wouldn't it still be restricted? Also do u have to remove the oil senser to also remove the governor?
The head opening is still bigger than the stock carb on this engine. you don't have to remove the oil sensor but I would because if you take curves fast it still can cut your engine out
Ok got yea on the oil filter thank you for actually replying. I forgot to ask what did you put in place of the governor arm that's in the block? A bolt? Again thank you for the replys!
Quick question. When disabling the governor, do you have to remove the gear inside or can you just bypass the lever that sits on the top? I'm new to these type off engines and got my kids that same coleman 196 kart you had on a previous video. I want to hop it up some more.
Hi. i just installed the bigger carb gx390 on my gx270 and added the gaskets and the spacer as you suggested. But now when i turn on the fuel, it drips/gushes out between the thick black plastic spacer and the carb itself. it looks like its coming out from the drain part. Any idea what i may have set up incorrectly? Thanks.
man my neighbors don't give a crap that i ride my 212 mini bike with a straight pipe on the street. they see that i'm having fun with out hurting anyone so what's the harm
Hey red beard I pulled the pin off the governor arm and the whole arm drop into case. Was that supposed to happen? And why would it do that? I had never opened the case before that happened
If you used all hand tools some group would whine about how you need to buy some power tools. You use power tools a group is gonna whine about you need to use hand tools. Next is gonna be the pneumatic vs electric groups. John Lydgate said it best "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time" You want to sit at your house and use all hand tools then so be it. You want to use all power tools thats fine also. There are times I'm just BSing around I'll take it slow and hand wrench everything. I also own pneumatic, cordless, and corded tools and will pick whatever is closest to me when I'm in a hurry or just want to get done. The vids are great and unless you decide to turn fasteners with your tongue use whatever method makes you happy.
Hello!! Thanks a lot for this video!!!! i have a gokart with a soda gx 270. I just did buy a 390 gx carburetor, is there something in particular that i have to do to make it work good? thanks!
You will need the carb insulator that goes behind the 390 carb as well. You can buy them with a full gasket set for cheap. As long as your running the open air filter and exhaust then the factory 390 jets should be ok. Just run it and pull the plug to see if it is running lean or rich and adjust accordingly
What size is the shaft coming out the engine is it 25 m and if so will the 40 series fit ok not done a torque converter yet can’t wait to try it And also is it the 390 or the 340 best carb on the 270 cheers man 🤙
Hey, awesome vid. I know I'm late to the party here... but oh well, question time: What RPM can I safely run a stock 270 to? I have a 270 from a pressure washer that I believe the throttle maxes it out at (in or around) 3,400 RPM. I imagine it will rev a little higher though, I just don't know how far I can push it...
Late reply, but someone else reads this. 4700 rpm is absolutely safe for like karting, etc. 4.900 is not bad. If you remove the inside governor, recommended limit is 5.300 You’re welcome.
But it’s not good to speed up the engine to those speeds without any load. I had once my ignition coil touch the flywheel at high speed without a load, and the coil, its’ leg and flywheel destroyed.
+BighomieJ5x - I think it has to do with the old governor set up. I'm looking into that to see if I can remove it. It seems like I can without effecting anything.
hey man i wanna get a 301cc predator for a go kart is their a mikuni carb for it?? i bought one for a 212cc for a mini bike nd i liked it better can u tell me whats the size i need or something so i wont get the wrong one thanks
I know this is nearly a year old, but can someone tell me where to get a throttle assembly for a gx270 that will take a throttle cable? mine used to be on a pressure washer, and it just doesn't have one. doesn't have a place to mount a throttle cable. It's confusing the shit out of me, i just can't find any solution to this.
What up red beard just scored me a gx270 for a pretty good deal Got a Intruder 2 frame and a set of arms from a predator 500. Would be cool if u could come down to N.M and give me a hand getting her all together.. Would be some asome footage for sure... Lmk. Respectfully dukecityminis....
