Man I appreciate your videos. You do it justice. Like you said a lot of people just film the quick process. We want details and in depth looks. It helps us noobs out. I’ve used every bit of info you’ve given out for my own civic. So big thanks man, we appreciate it.
Much appreciated! Doing this chain job for a coworker, was looking for something to tell me if the crank and cams were at 0* and you clearly showed all the arrows and even those alignment pins 👍🏻 Thanks
What a huge help! Recently had my k24 jump time luckily only a tooth. Preparing to install a new chain kit tomorrow. Youre always very informative and actually show the process.
Great job! Very informative with ALL the details which helps many back yard mechanics. I've been turning wrenches for over 55 years and I know many professionals will deliberately leave out the finite details because it brings money into their shops which is understandable however, if that's their game, they shouldn't be posting videos in the first place! Hope everything turned out well for you!
Very helpful. I just picked this motor up for my 93 Civic and plan on doing the same. Being new to K series i found this video a perfect example on how to get it done. 🤘
Dude thank you so much🙏🏼 there is hardly any good videos out there about things we need to see. Currently in the process of sourcing everything I need on my k24a swap for my 09 fa5🤞🏼
Gerb blown headgasket😔 had a bunch of problems leading up to it. Car was definitely abused before I got it. Only good part is the dealer I got it from put a brand new trans and clutch in it about 100 miles before I bought it. Haha. Been sourcing parts already and probably pulling my motor tomorrow and prepping to paint it and clean up the engine bay.
HI mate great video. thank you....we have a k24z in my daughters 09 honda accord euro Australian spec..(acura tsx) over there.. it has the cold start rattle which were addressing shortly but also pings under load all the time..could this be the timing chain stretched or chain tensioner gone bad..? looking like ive got to remove the engine to do this job..? any advice appreciated..
I want to replace the oil pump chain, do I need to remove the oil pan in able for me to get the chain removed? But I’m also going to replace the timing chain.
Thanks for the great video. If I were to change the timing tensioner only by taking the tensioner cover off, with the engine in the car - how can I ensure the chain does not jump timing? It looks like the guide becomes very loose once you take the tensioner off.
Thanks for the nice video! Very helpful with my crv timing chain replacement. Stupid question, what's the lower chain, and do I need to replace it too? My kit came with a replacement, but I cant get the old one off.
There's holes on the back on the cam phasers opposite side off the gear when you have both gear pointing at eachother. You put either the tool they sell in those holes to lock it in place or use drill bills once you do that you cams are set and you put bottom TDC. K24 has 2 colored links per cam mark and one colored for crank mark. One everything's lined up zip tie with out the tensioner thatl keep it in time and putt the tensioner on tighten it pull the pin. Cut zip ties you know the rest your 🙏
Great descriptive video! One question, I have an oil leak coming from the bottom right timing chain cover just above the oil pan right side. It looks like there’s no gaskets inside so a simple Honda bond reseal should work ?
This is super awesome! I am currently taking a k24a2 apart and I have no experience…. Why are you making sure everything lines up before you pull the chain off? Why did you want the piston closest to the chain at the highest point? Why did the tensioner need to be locked before being pulled out? Is their a specific order the bolts on the top of the head need to be removed?
Great Video! I have 2013 Accord sport and the cams do not have the pins on the other end. Any advice how to align the intake and exhaust cams? Thank you
Not trying to be a douchbag but this was a removal, not replacement. So maybe I'm supposed to know but I'd like to make sure. Is a installation of a new chain just in reverse order from your video? Thank you for your time and help.
so i have a slight leak in my timing chain cover on a 2007 accord with 89k. it's under warranty for that but the mechanic recommends i replace the timing chain and have a valve adjustment at my expense since it will all be opened up anyway. $300-$400 for my end...do you think it's worth making this investment when there are no signs of needing these repairs? i plan to hang onto the car. appreciate any response.
Do you know how they ended up fixing the leak? I also have a leak on the cover just above the oil pan but I’m trying to see if I should just open up the cover and reseal it with Honda bond
@@vmanjose - i had them just replace the (timing chain) cover. didn't cost me anything since it was under warranty. i didn't have the additional stuff done although it wouldn't have been a bad idea; as a preventive thing. i just don't like doing work if it's not needed. for your situation, i would just make sure i knew which cover the leak was coming from and go from there.
1:00 What happens you I didn't set the engine to TDC before taking out the timing chain? My engine skipped timing so the marks don't even align. I already took the chain out did I mess anything up?
The white dots/arrow on the cam gears are supposed to be between the different colored chain links and and line up the bottoms arrows and the chain link as well will have a different color on the chain that supposed to line up to marks on motor your at tdc but not in time perfect just letting you know
@@TheGerbsteve thanks for input, I hope ours continues problem free. I think I noticed some light wetness of possible gear oil around the output shaft during the last oil change. May be a seal, now to figure out if that’s a big job or if those additive sealers will work.
I’m helping my buddy out with one in the car right now. It’s not a lot of fun lol. Let’s just say, “tight” haha. It will be same process, but you’re going to have way less room. It is doable though, I’ve heard of a decent amount of people doing it themselves.
The only difference with the k20 is that the little dots on top of cams go in the middle of one black colored link instead of two like the k24. I wish you the best luck with the job 🙏🏼🔧
Keep in mind that the K24Z2 does not have a crank position sensor in the same location so you will have a washer instead of a sprocket on the crank shaft...
@@TheGerbsteve Don't know what kind of budget you're on but hptautosport sells the PRB oil pump kit that's already modified to fit the k24 block. Comes with everything but the oil pump chain tensioner you have to buy separately. That'll get you 9k safely if you ever decide to go with bigger cams.
When replacing the timing chain, you also need to change all the gears for new ones, since the old gears already have a workout and a quickly stretched new chain! And so that the chain does not stretch and the gears do not wear out, protect them with XADO revitalizant !!! I had a case: I punctured the engine sump and lost all the oil, but I drove 80 miles to the repair site on my own !!! and the engine was empty. I replaced the pallet, filled in oil and drove on, and this is all thanks to XADO from Ukraine !!!
