Honda Motorcycle has some tricks to escape the Arkansas State Police pursuit ...but is caught later! 

On March 4, 2023, at approximately 5:12 PM, I conducted a traffic stop on United States Highway 79 at United States Highway 278, on a Red Honda Motorcycle, for no license plate. The driver (Curtis Hicks) stopped on Wiggins Marden Road near the front entrance of Harrell Field Airport. I made contact with Hicks and advised who I was and the reason I stopped him. As I spoke to Hicks I asked if he had his driver's license and he stated he had one just not with him. I asked Hicks if he had any vehicle information and he stated he didn't. After getting Hicks information I went back to my unit to check it. As I checked his information I observed him to not have a valid motorcycle endorsement. I went back to speak with Hicks and to get the vehicle information number. As I went to speak with Hicks, I asked if he had anyone to come get the motorcycle or if he had a preference on a wrecker. Hicks stated he wanted Buddy's Wrecker. I advised I would call them and asked for him to step off the bike. At that time I created distance from me and Hicks for safety. As I backed up from Hicks, he started his motorcycle. I advised Hicks to stop and he began to flee from the traffic stop. As Hicks fled he proceeded to turn left onto Airport Road. Hicks then turned right onto United States Highway 79. As Hicks turned onto United States Highway 79, he crossed left of center and began to drive north in the southbound lane, swerving in and out of the traffic lanes. Hicks traveled north approximately 12 miles in the southbound lane barely missing southbound traffic. Due to safety reasons, as we approached the intersection of United States Highway 79 at United States Highway 79-B in Bearden, Sergeant Wade Schanzlin advised to terminate pursuit. At approximately 6:14 PM, I was contacted by Sheriff Vernon Morris of Calhoun County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Morris stated after we terminated pursuit, Chief Deputy Daniel Foster and Deputy Adam McGilton began to pursue Hicks down Calhoun County Roads. Sheriff Morris stated they took Hicks into custody and transported him to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office where he was released on citations. After Calhoun County released Hicks, I took him into custody and he was transported to the Ouachita County Sheriff's Office. Hicks will be charged with the following: Felony Fleeing by Vehicle, Fail to Register Vehicle, No Liability Insurance, Reckless Driving 1st, Driving the Wrong Way Down a One-Way Roadway, Left of Center, Improper Lane Usage, No Motorcycle Operator License, and Fail to Present Driver's License.

Rider: I'm gonna take off Trooper: I'm gonna run back to my car and chase you Rider: Sounds good, I'll wait for you before I take off Trooper: Thanks, brother Rider: You ready? Trooper: Yup, let's do this 😃 😀 😄 😁

This is literally the strangest chase I have ever seen he basically told the officer he was going to run then waited for him to get to his car before slowly pulling away then crawled like he was leading a funeral procession

This man was raised with great morals. His dad told him when he was young “son, if you ever decide to run from the law, let the cop at least get inside his vehicle before you take off “ 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The trick was going as slow as possible to avoid getting a speeding ticket added to the charges.

No helmet, no id, no license, no plate, no registration, no insurance, no cell phone, no job, no money, no address. We have a WINNER!

There is an insane amount of laws in this country. I truly believe I accidentally commit probably 3 misdemeanors and a felony or 2 every day just going about my life like a normal citizen.

Sad when people are in seemingly hopeless situations and they just say F it and then really destroy their lives. Society doesn’t make it easy on people during tough times.

Speaking as someone who's been riding bikes for about 45 years, when I see someone putting their foot down taking a corner, I know we're dealing with someone who just doesn't know how to ride....

When at the first curve I saw Curtis' left leg moving outside for balance while driving 12 mph, I knew we were in for al *long* pursuit 😁

Those were some pretty tricky tricks for a motorcycle like that. I’m surprised they both survived that slo-mo pursuit.

When someone says that guy rides like a "Squid" you now have your definition.

As long as it took him to put kickstand up and start the bike the trooper probably would've just sat there & waited for him to find & use the choke if he needed to to get it started.

In his defense, that was probably the most timid police chase involving a motor vehicle.

At this point I think ASP be down for a chase because he could've pushed him over off the bike when he ran back to the car.... 😂

That looked like a slow Sunday drive in the country. The best part was the slow take off where he was being polite, and giving the trooper ample time to get in the cruiser before he took off.

I think he wanted to go to jail. He knew he wasn't going to outrun that highway patrol. He also said he had no place to stay.

Cop and rider had hardly 100 IQ points between them.

This was one of the silliest pursuits I have seen. A pit maneuver early on could have prevented all this but I guess we don’t do that.

Was it worth using all those resources to pursue someone fleeing because they had no license? Especially if you knew who the guy was?

After all the initial violations this guy accumulated, he should have been taken into custody immediately. He was probably let go with $100 bail.

I think this officer was very respectful and did the right things according to the circumstances... He should be acknowledged for his professionalism... For the ones saying he should have tackled him... What if Mr. Hicks did get taken off and caught the officer in a tire or chain or if he started and wrecked with no helmet causing head injury... At the end of the day everyone is alive and safe and Mr. Hicks will have some time to reevaluate his poor decisions.

The cop was basically standing next to him when the guy started the bike, he could have just pushed him over instead of running back to the car

The officer had plenty of time to turn around, run at the suspect and tackle him off the bike. It was evident he was beginning to elude by popping the kickstand, firing up the bike, starting to move forward and looking back mouthing off to the officer. The entire chase could have been avoided right from the start.

There was a man stopped on a moped, for no lights..the guy decided to out run a cop car..the 28mph chaise for two miles..the police were laughing the whole time..

Going down the wrong side of the road on the shoulder I'd lay odds he was looking for an opportunity to ditch the drugs he's transporting. All the citations he received carry less time and penalties than being caught with a fresh batch of meth.

I remember being pulled over on my Honda motorcycle and let me tell you it was a hot July night I told the officer I was in a hurry and while he was checking over my motorcycle I was told to stand by the hood of his car I decided to jump in his car and take off I still remember it was running I jumped in and put it in reverse flooring it and smoking the tires then I turned the wheels hard and spun the car around slamming it into drive and smoked the tires again I made it 4 counties that night...

I ran from deputy first time @ 5 years old on a Honda Z50 and haven’t stopped when on 2 wheels. Carried an extra shirt when I planned to get rowdy on a street bike.

With all those citations, none of them were speeding.

The cop's car hit a whopping 64 mph, dude- man on the bike was giving it the beans! He had that 'ole Honda wrung out.

One hour after being arrested by the trooper, Hicks was released on a 100.00 bail and given a free ride home....not! 🤔🤔

"As I went to speak with Hicks, I asked if he had anyone to come get the motorcycle" Wow, very lenient officers. If I got pulled over on an unregistered bike, they'd likely just impound it. EDIT: From the video "Do you know someone who does?" So had he gone with the program, he was willing to let someone else with a license drive the unregistered & uninsured bike home. Can't ask for any more than that!

That's the weirdest police chase I've ever seen: guy decides to run away after giving his full name and info, waits for the cop to go back to his car, makes sure the cop is back in is car, tells him something, and then takes of very casually doing 30mph on his bike.

Curtis *really* should *at least* have Insurance on the bike. It's cheap - can only hurt yourself! Regardless, that was *very nice* of Curtis to let that ASP Officer chase him around like that! You can tell the poor fellas been waiting *all day* & He didn't think it was *ever* gonna happen! He slapped his own ass before (taking forever) to get into his Cruiser. Officer *did* neglect to play The Dukes Of Hazzard Theme Music during the chase which shows his unpreparedness. You'll notice Curtis, *a man of culture* , had his headphones *cranked* & if you listen closely you'll hear: *"I CAIN'T DRIVE - FIFFDEE Fiiiive!*

Are the police in that area not allowed to remove the keys from the bike before giving them the bad news? Would reduce chance of taking off.

If you play it at 2x speed he at least gets up to 100mph.

Typical cop tax man wanted to jam him up and impound his bike and charge him hundreds if not thousands in fines and impound fees. What a great justice system. Way to serve and protect. Maybe this is why I've never met a good cop.

Trooper handled him with kid gloves, gave him every break. Very dumb to run off like that. Had just a little problem, but got big problems now.

These Arkansas troopers don't play. They put it on the line and risk it all. Welding shops in Little Rock and the like ought to give back & weld some cages in those cars.

This is the first Arkansas State Police pursuit I've seen that didn't end in a high speed PIT maneuver.

Interesting how the officer asks if he has anything illegal on him such as guns or drugs...not for certain but didn't think guns were universally recognized as illegal...

1985 Honda VT500c, but looks like the sissybar backrest has been removed. Max. speed of about 85mph. These bikes are light and agile, with suspension like a dirt bike, but their tires are for street, hence not much traction on dirt (especially mud). He could easily have gone onto the grass median and doubled back. At 18:05 he is standing on his pegs, undoubtedly searching for an off-road exit. I would guess he was looking for that dirt road exit seen (by cop camera) at 17:56. I have three of these bikes. They really do ride like dirt bikes (except for the street tires). The real issue here was twofold: (1) I honestly do not think his heart was totally intent on fleeing, because that bike can do 85 mph and he was not doing things like doubling back or crossing back and forth over the median. (2) To his misfortune (so to speak) his options were limited due to the embankments on both sides of the highway, with water (seen near the end), and woods too thick to navigate through. Undoubtedly,. the cop car is much faster, but it is hardly as agile. It would be like a dog chasing a squirrel. I am very glad the police officer did not get violent and kept his calm. It ended well, without escalation.
