This is the BEST video! I have never done any motorcycle repair. I have a 1985 Honda Rebel 250 that was left outside for 3 years. Watching this video, I removed the carburetor, took it apart, cleaned it and put it all back. Motorcycle started right up!! Thank you for posting this!!
You are a god to me!! I just saved myself at least $300 on a Carb rebuild,. Your video was so precise and informative that I completed the entire process AND my motorcycle actually started without any adjustments needed. Wow you should do more DIY repair videos. If your're not already a youtube star you will be!! My issue was I would be riding down the street comfortably, and out of nowhere, the throttle would actually stumble and quickly everything on the bike would just stop incuding the engine. If I sat and waited a few minutes it would start up again and just repeat the whole scenario over and over again. Well thanks to you, I discovered a VERY TINY piece of the tubing I'm guessing, stuck very close to one of the jets. Fast forward to bike reassembled and BAM, that was my issue. I can't thank you enough for this video. It is brilliant.
@@baileygibert2011 I used this one from Amazon, mainly for the seals, just cleaned the jets and diaphragm. WEIYINGSI Carburetor RepAir Kit Replacement For CMX250 CB250 Nighthawk Rebel Carb Rebuild
You did an absolutely amazing job, making this video. Thank you for walking us through everything, step-by-step. Next time someone asks me for advice on cleaning their carb, I'm sending them a link to this.
I following this video and its worked great and my bike it back to tip top shape thank you! To my fellow people who are also doing this: watch out for stripping screws and that rubber thing is literally the worst. If your bike is super old like mine that rubber thing will break but at least you can order the part online really easily.
Outstanding video. You don't waste words. I've rebuilt several carbs over the years, each is different, and these instructions for this carb are great.
Want to let you know that I watched more then just this video before attempting the clean up on my carburetor. Yours was the best. It took me 2 hours to do the R&R and clean up. Motor started right up and it runs great. Thanks again for your top quality video.
Your video saved me. Bought this bike been sitting for over 2 years. watched the video at least 10 times during the process of getting the carb cleaned out and working. Thanks
Just bought my first bike... A 2008 250 with 750 miles on her. She runs but stalls out if you touch the choke. I'm positive it's from old gas and gunk clogging the carb since it was barely ridden. Will be doing my first ever maintenance job with the help of your video later. Thank you for being detailed.
Wow...great! I am impressed you going for it. Take it slow and msg me if you have any questions. Thanks for your interest and please subscribe to help me out
Great video. The only little extra thing I do is to take the rubber diaphragms and coat them with a thin film of silicone grease (not petroleum grease) because it conditions the rubber and will keep the diaphragms from drying out over time.
Just bought a 2006 Rebel with only 1400 miles on it. Needs this work done to it. Hasn't been started and driven for over a year. Runs like crap. Thanks so much for this video. Will save me time and money. Great photography and narration.
My daughters account. Great video. Thank you! Took me 4hrs to complete the project, but saved me $500 at the Honda dealer. Very clear and concise instruction, I appreciate your expertise / video!
Thanks very much. The little bits about spraying out certain holes and seeing the carb cleaner come out another spot was helpful. I pulled it apart only a year ago and still didn't learn to keep the petcock off and the carbed drained or ran dry. Hopefully this time will be different.
1000 Thumbs up for this video. I only wish you had shown the replacement sequence in the same detail as the removal - in case there were any tips or tricks to be gleaned from it. My wife's 2007 Rebel has 450 miles on it, but sat for quite some time. It is finicky to start, but one warmed up runs fine. I believe her idle is too low and more importantly, her throttle has a flat spot that cause the engine to stumble and sputter - even shut off. Not good when you trying to learn to ride! Based on this video I believe I can diagnose this issue (accelerator pump issue). THANKS!
Excellent video on this job! I just finished cleaning the jets on an a Rebel and moving the carb back enough to clear the two mounting bolts on the engine was the worst part of the job. I even considered removing some of the front engine mount bolts to let the motor tilt slightly forward to get the clearance needed, but pushing the front lip of the groove in the air cleaner boot back into the air box gave me the room I needed. Finessing the lip of the boot back through the air box after the carb was installed was a little tricky, but much easier than trying to pry the carb far enough back with the boot in place.
Great helpful video sir . You explain everything so well . I need to do this on my rebel . It's been stored for years . I just bought it . I will use your video as a reference when I do the job . Best regards from the UK ...
Thank you so much for walking us through step-by-step it helped me out a lot I never built motorcycle carburetors car carburetors I will try my best to do this now myself and I will let you know the outcome if it runs or not LOL
My bike is bogging when i give it gas on any gear n sucks when ur in the turning lane. Doing this tomorrow to my rebel ,hope its all good by then pray for me 🤙🏽🍻💀 thanks for the video brother 🍻
@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs got another problem with the 250 Rebel project. The neutral light stays on all the time . How do I fix this ???? Will look for you to reply. Thanks
@@a52091ekt Hi there, thanks for your interest! Your neutral light being on all the time could be caused by 2 things only. First ...the neutral switch could be bad or Second ...the wire connected to it is rubbing against the frame or the engine someplace and picking up Ground. The way the neutral light works is the positive is supplied with key ON all the time to the light bulb and the neutral switch supplies the ground for the light bulb ...so when you click into the neutral the ground is ON and the light bulb illuminates. I would disconnect the wire from the switch and see if the light is OUT ...if YES you will need new switch if the light is still ON trace the wire to find where is touching the ground. Hope you will find this helpful and please subscribe to help me out.
@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs Just letting you know that after dealing with the previous carb problems on the Rebel I didn't waste time and subscribed to your videos . BIG TIME HELP. Thanks again.
Thank you, great video and quite informative. Too bad the owners before me had Hercules hands and I broke the acceleration pin. Now I have to buy a new carburetor because the pin is stuck inside the old one.
I have a 2009. Taking the carb out from the boot was a pain. I had to remove the air filter to pull the boot back. Then remove the metal bracket bc it is in the way of the carb on the way out. I wonder if it’s worth it to clean it or just straight up replace it. The nice part about the cleaning is you retain your OEM. Good video.
7:00 If your cir-clip cotterpin has about had it, you can make a new one out of a small paperclip. Just strip off the plastic coating around the paperclip if it has it on there (mine did) and the paper clip wire will be the right diameter. Insert it through the hole, and bend a little section into an S shape with the hole passing through the center of the S, and clip it off.
Great video.......But I am amazed how easily all those small screws came out! In my experience there is always always one that needs a massive effort to get undone!!
Agreed! - 3 of the 4 bowl screws were stuck on mine. I "always" put a dab of anti-seize on any bolt or screw I re-install so the next guy (which may be me again) won't have the same problem months or years later.
Thank you sir! New subscriber here. Could you please make one on installing a fuel gauge? Which meter do you recommend and how to installed and check for accuracy? Thank you!
I've followed your video twice already, and it is great! But, I can't get the bike to run. It'll turn on with starting fluid and then bog out. What else could it be? Bike has 1700 miles and it is an 02.
How does the Fuel/Air mixture screw go in? I know there are a few things on it...washer, spring, etc...what order do they go in? You didn't take it out in your video...
Does that rebel have a tip over sensor? A drunk driver backed into my wifes bike and knocked it over. Stood it up no power no lights any information would help. I got it home going to start on it in the morning. Thanks much
the 2 bolts holding my carb on the engine are stripped beyond all repair and there's no space for any tools or drill bits edit: was able to pull them off with vice grips!
I bought a 2001 CMX250C single carb Rebel. The carb was in pieces with several missing. I don't even have the screws to put the bowl or top back on. Do you know where I can buy a replacement carb for this bike that doesn't cost so much? I can only find one for $350. I can't afford that. Thanks, Matt
I damaged the little paper gasket that sets between the carb and the 'split' intake manifold when I removed it from the bike... it that little paper part so crucial that I can't make a new one from gasket material I can get from NAPA auto parts ? Just wondering - and thank you for the video - great way to learn about new carbs - Thanks
you can make it from gasket paper...sure...it just needs to seal the air from coming in creating intake manifold leak...thanks for your interest. Please subscribe to help me out
@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs - I got the rebuild done, and it runs fantastic!!! Excellent tutorial! The only thing is that normally the Rebel has to use the ‘choke’ to start, but now it won’t. It will only start, and run with the choke lever in the upper position - but it runs and starts great! I’m just curious if I reinstalled it wrong, or if the choke lever has to be in a certain position for it to be reinstalled. I cleaned it just as you showed - I’m just wondering if I did something wrong.
Hi, I got a 2004 Honda Rebel 250 and it is not idling after few miles riding. I mean after few miles, when I try to shift gears, I idle the throttle and simultaneously squeeze the clutch, but engine won't idle. gears shifting in high rpm. and after I stop the bike and neutral the gears, rpm is still very high for about 10-15 minutes. Any idea what happening. Thanks in advance..
My dream is to have a mechanic like you! It was true that at the beginning of my work I had a little trouble because in my model (this is the first model Rebel 250 1985) there is a different attachment to the engine - there are no two screws but a round sleeve). Other work thanks to your advice is a pleasure of work. However, I have a question because in the kit (kit) in addition to jets, the gasket was a metal washer and a rubber ring smaller than 1/4 inch. When washing the carburetor I found the same (metal washer and rubber ring) at the bottom of the dish. Where do you think their place is in the carburetor ?? Regards, Mike.
Hi Mike... thanks for the positive feedback!!! It means a lot to me. First think on my mind for the location of your washer and o-ring could be under the air /gas mixture screw. They are hard to get out( usually you need straight pick to fish them out)… however they could also fall out on there own if you took the screw and the small spring out. Let me know if that was it...hope you get it together soon!
@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs Just as you write (air mix nozzle), which once again allows me to call you the genius of the carburetor. I assembled and installed (there are not many parts left he he ,,) However, there is such a thing. A cold motorcycle starts up without moving the choke lever. What did I do wrong again? Thanks for all, best regards Mike from Canada.
At 20 minutes in You talk about the accelerator pump. The top part where the three screws go in. You spray carb cleaner through one hole and it comes out the square side Mine is still clogged what should I do Good video Wanted to point out there's no explanation in the beginning on how to get the choke cable out of the carburetor safely
I’m doing this step by step but wanted to ask, when you said clean everything with water. did you also clean the item you dipped halfway the carb cleaner with water?
Hi Jorge, sometimes the carburetor will flood when it's empty after working on it and the pressure of the gas coming into it for the first time over powers the float. Try to start the bike with the petcock off and let it run for a minute an open it back up...also is your gas tank clean inside?? you can add little inline fuel filter to stop dirt coming into the carburetor...also there is times when you just need to open the carburetor back up and double check everything . Hope this helps...please subscribe to my channel to help me out...good luck!
Hello, i have a honda rebel 250 just like this but have 2 carbs but has as a one unit.also the side covers are chrome metal and battery cover is box shaped. Taking out the carb from bike is very difficult because its large in size..any easy system to take out this carb ? What is this model ? Thanks ,TC.
You have the earlier rebel 250 model which came with two carburetors... Unfortunately this video will not be really helpful to you...I hope you will be able to get your job done and thank you for your interest please subscribe you might find another video that will be helpful to you in the future ....thank you
@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs could you pls tell me the advantages and disadvantages of having two carbs.can it convert into single carb? Will it effect to the performance ? Much thankful for your valuable reply . All the best To you.i subscribed your channel.
I would take it apart and replace the float needle..also inspect the overflow tube inside the float bowl for cracks...if the bike is running good if might be just defective/damaged float bowl or the drain bolt is not sealing or being loose...hope this helps. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to help me out
forgot to mention the screw in side of carb above the hose im thinking its the drain screw its so tight i cant get it to loosen u think that might be the problem that previous owner over tightened it ?does it have like a o ring on the inside ?....local honda shop said its a 3 to 4 hour job they wanting 150 to 200 dollars to do it and me supply the kit im thinking they trying to rip me off lol??
Be careful with carb cleaner on the neoprene parts. It will make them swell, and will be very hard to re-fit them. I only spray the cleaner on the rag and wipe them. DO NOT soak them in carb cleaner.
I got 1985 rebel i clean the carb did every thing star good but runing on the stree she chokes new gas filter new gas nwe sparplus what cut be my problem
Hi Sergio, thanks for your interest in my video! First I want to know what happened prior to you working on the carburetor...did you just purchased the bike? did it sit? or anything happened while you was using the bike before?
make sure your slider is moving freely and the rubber diaphragm is not ripped and it is seated properly...if it idles well you have issue with air or gas restriction under power...so start there and let me know. The slider must move gradually up as you accelerate allowing more fuel via needle and more air by opening up...
