Does the book say that chain measurement is with the wheel off the ground? It’s going to tighten more with the wheel on the floor as the swing arm rotates ……

@@22Royston with this stand it’s compressing the suspension as well. So it’s like it on the ground only that the contacts are the swing arm and not the tire. If you have a center stand or jack up from the middle, you would need to worry about that. Very good question! Appreciate your feedback.

I learned alot from this video. One thing I don't understand is how did you keep the rear axle hex bolt from spinning when you tighten up the nut to 65 foot lbs after the chain adjustment? I had to go to the mechanic friend and borrow a 14mm hex tool in the end. Thanks

Exactly. You need to use the breaker bar with the 14 hex to be able to stop it from moving. My mistake for not making that more clear. Thanks for watching.

@SLIGHT_

Was this before or after the adjustment? What you do to the left should also be done in the right so it should also be on the same lines. Sounds like the wheel may be out of alignment (you can confirm this by a chain alignment tool)

Hi Slight_, I’ve just recently bought a cmx500se 2023. What size is the Allen key on the near side of the rear wheel? Also, I noticed you can spin the rear wheel really easy whereas the rear wheel on my bike needs two hands to rotate it. I’ve not got a paddock stand but I’m using a twin metal roller device to sit the rear wheel on. My bike has 800 miles on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
@SLIGHT_
@SLIGHT_ 5 месяцев назад
The rear axle uses a 14mm hex. You’ll notice the rear tire will be harder to move on the rollers as the weight is still on them. It’s like moving your bike with your hands in that way. I suggest the pad stands (found in the description) it makes these things much more easy to complete. Feel free to email or message me with any questions.

My first chain lube was with Motul because they say you can go longer between lubes with it but it is such a job to apply it. After doing some research on lubes it seems the top chain lube for all around is actually an 80wt 90wt gear oil like Maxima for example. Next lube I am going that way. Have you ever tried gear oil ? Kit
@SLIGHT_
@SLIGHT_ 2 года назад
As I still have some chain lube I use it… yet many manufacturers actually recommend gear oil. For fun you can also watch Ryan (fortnine) as he breaks down cleaner and lube… surprisingly the gear oil works better then most other lubes.

Does the chain get tighter when the wheel is not in the air? When you sit on it (the bike, not the wheel)? I have experienced this on some bikes, especially dirt bikes.
@SLIGHT_
@SLIGHT_ Год назад
It should depends on where you Jack the rear up. With the rebel you are still having the weight of the rear shock as the contact is on the swing arm. This keeps the rear end compressed like the tire was on the ground. While with most dirt bikes you’d use a centre stand completely removing any weight from the rear (relaxing the suspension). Great question btw!! Appreciate your time.

Not sure I understand what you’re adjusting the chain to. Are you suppose to measure a certain distance from the ground?
@SLIGHT_

I’m measuring the Chain slack. So the “movement” of the chain. Honda makes it easy by having the spec on the swing arm. You zero the measurement that way you have it measured to the nearest inch. Then calculate the difference.

@@SLIGHT_ I realized after I typed it it might be confusing, so thank you for clarifying! One more question - I have seen different things re: math and how to calculate torque when using a crows foot if it is not at a 90 degree angle. It looks like you used it straight on, meaning the crows foot head was not at a 90 degree angle to the handle. Can you explain more about that? Thanks so much for the quick responses! This is my first time doing this and I'll need to buy all the tools, so making sure I know what to get/how to use them. THANK YOU!
@SLIGHT_
@SLIGHT_ Год назад
@@ThaïsLee-v4o not a problem. Using a crows wrench at 90deg to the torque handle doesn’t change the torque value. Extended you technically need to calculate the adjusted torque value using this equation (torque wrench length x desired torque spec) then divide this by (torque wrench length + extension length) For example: The wrench I used was 17” the torque is 15ft/lbs… extension is 1” This would mean I would need to drop the torque to just over 14 ft/lbs (17x15)/(17+1) 255/18 =14.17ft/lbs In this case it’s not a huge deal.
