Helpful video. Mine failed on the road and I didn’t know enough nor have the tools needed to bypass. My kit will be here shortly and it will be repaired. Also will ensure I have an adequate tool kit to address this on the road if necessary in the future. Enjoy your videos, subscribed today!

Keith, this was of great help. I noticed that you have the middle cast part upside down. It has a drain hole that should face down, not up. Keep up the great work!

Hi Keith, The fuel cut off valve is there as a safety feature only and is easily bypassed should it ever fail out on the road. Along with the Bank Angle Sensor (BAS), it prevents a fire should the bike fall over in a crash. The BAS will automatically cut the ignition once the bike falls over, but that won't shut down the fuel pump, so the fuel cut off valve, being starved of vacuum once the ignition is killed, will stop the flow of fuel into the carbs, which, because the bike is on its side, could overflow and cause a fire hazard. Regular service of this valve is not required and IF it should fail, the simple fix on the road is to remove it and connect the hose going to the carbs from the valve directly to the fuel filter.You also need to plug the vacuum hose that attaches to the cut off valve. The filter and the hose to the carbs are the same size. Honda must have considered this in the design, for an easy on the road fix - provided you have the proper tools on board to get it all apart. Actually a great number of owners have removed that potential trouble spot permanently. Other than the possibility of a fire hazard, there is no downside to removing it, but these bikes are so old now that a crash, fire or not, is not going to be repaired by any insurance company. I took mine off of my '96 ST1100 just this year, after it failed on the road, not once, but twice. I did rebuild it after the first time and maybe the repair kit was of lesser quality, because it failed again - another tear in the diaphragm 400 km later! Just be sure to keep tools on board and this will never stop you for more than an hour out on the road.

I think you should just bypass it temporarly, and replace it as soon as you have a replacement part. Cause, that safety is there for... a safety reason ! ;-) I am telling you this, because, I was glad it worked as it should on my bike. I just stop to take a picture of the landscape, on the side of the road, and when I tried to put my phone back in my pocket, still standing on the bike, whit the engine running, my foot slipped, the bike fell on the side, and I also fell, and was almost trown in the ditch. I was glad to hear the engine stop right away, and it took me a few seconds to get back on my feet, and to put the bike straight up. Thank god, not a droplet of gas anywhere. I waited about 30 seconds, pushed the starter, and the bike started right away. Without that protection, who knows what could have happend. They say there is only two type of owners for this bike : those who have dropped it, and those who will drop it, and most of the time, we really drop it, the most silly way. Thanks, and sorry to ask again, what do you mean by checking, is the sender unit an electrical component?, does that mean I should measure electrical continuity?
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder Год назад
check the electrical connection to it, they can be the problem if corroded, broken wire etc, or if you know someone that has a spare just to check before spending out, electrical is not one of my strong points

@@TheAmateurBikeBuilder Not mine either. But I studied electricity in my mechanical engineering course, and electricity doesn't have big secrets at this level, it just requires rationality and knowledge.

Bonjour, j avais fait la même chose. Good job. Mais je pense que vous avait fait une petite erreur au remontage. Le petit trou sur la partie centrale du robinet doit se retrouver vers le bas et non vers le haut. Have a Good Day.

Hello I have seen your video for the difragm change and I think I have the same problem. I will send you pictures and video of my problem and could you just confirm that it is the same procedure as on your video and the same way to repair it. Thanks in advance

Thanks Mohamed, it s a fairly easy job, that was the first time i had done it,only mistake i made was the middle cast part was upside down. It has a drain hole that should face down, not up. that was rectified after i had filmed the video, should be the same n all ST1100's
