I have a 2002 vtx1800r. When I got it I was riding with a group that was all harleys, except for me. We were to meet for a ride and I got there early. Once they were all there they walked around and made honda jokes and poked fun. (Was all in good fun) They let me start up 1st. They got quiet once I did. I saw 3 jaws hit the tanks. After awhile ,once I broke it in,the 1 guy wanted to race. He had the "fastest bike". After the race he had "the fastest harley". I love that bike. 18 years and she still looks new and runs like a beast.
@@GK-ud8dv If a Harley has 18 years it would be amazing to know that is still on the road. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki or Kawasaki would be no problem. Those bikes would be "enjoying their prime" at that point.
I love Harley's, If it weren't for those pieces of crap, I wouldn't realize what a great bike Japan makes. Hardly Run Davidson Overweight Overpriced Underpowered
I have 4 bikes Honda Goldwing, VTX-1300R, VLX 600 deluxe and a Harley road King. Most of the people I ride with ride Hardleys. They give me hard times about my rice buckets. Truth is the Wing was built in S.C. the VTX in O.H. weve yet to take a road trip that all the hardleys it back from. Honda holds up fine fore me. The was to stop them is to talk cooling systems. I particularly like to set them up for a fall by first saying something like how do you like your cooling system? They'll talk for an hour trying to convince you they enjoy having their legs bar-b-qed. With all the sincerity you can muster say something like this. You know Bob I agree with you up to a point. I really like air cooled engines heck I've got a fantastic Kamikaze 26 hp, does a great job on the gas but I dont drive it to the mountains. Thier case is closed😡😁
@@jamesgarrett2129 alot of people confused our Honda 1300 for a Harley I think it was because it had been through hell and back I have no idea where that death trap is, not saying Honda vtx is a death trap just mine it had no breaks
Don't be afraid to really push that VTX1800, they love it :) I remember when I got myVTX1800R, the first few rides I thought the clutch was slipping, or something was wrong, didn't realize it was just boiling the rear tire, but because of the weight of the bike, it never got squirrely and just kept going. I didn't really understand it all until I put fresh rubber on it, changed everything, wow. It's an amazing bike, just buckets of torque!
I had an 1800C and recently also bought the 1800N. My girlfriend has a 1300R she now wants after riding my Neo a Neo of her own. Also I have to mention we are all VTX lovers / owners in the family. Her father has an 1800R her sister has a 1300R her brother-in-law has a 1300C and her nephew bought my 1800C. All great bikes! Go Honda 😆
They are definitely great! Easy to maintain, affordable and reliable. My first bike was a 07 1300c with 3k miles on it back in 2017. Then I have had a few 1800s since then.
First of all these big old 700-pound bikes are not meant for racing. They're meant for cruising down the interstate. I got no problems with Harleys. Personally I ride a Honda Valkyrie. Which has all the power I need at 60 years old. All bikes are cool if you want to go fast get you one of them Suzuki GSXR 1000 r's. Or Hayabusa. Or V-Rod.. let's stop trashing each other's bikes dude. Two wheels and the wind in your face. That's what it's all about. Laying them suckers over in the corners. If you have been riding the last 40 miles in the right lane. You ain't Ridin
The problem is for the last I don't know how many years Harley guys trying to stay relevant and calling other bikes trash when they drive slow tractors.
I just got a 07 vtx1800f and I'm truly impressed I came from a 2010 1300 honda interstate and loved that bike but that 1800 is a whole different beast 😁
@@oneshothooligan6279 what’s sad on Harley is your warrior is also push rod haha Yamaha and Kawasaki just know how to make push rods right. Vulcan is only push rod once it hits 2000cc
My 03 1800 R has 95,000 miles, fully dressed with street glide front faring, crash bars tons of chrome, Front rear full links running boards and 40 pounds of passenger appointments, five-year-old spark plugs original clutch which slips and I still eat Harley’s all day long. Got the bike for three grand five years ago and even though I work at a Harley dealer I’ll never trade this in for Harley. The new 114 models come pretty close but even their power wains off rather quickly. 800+ pounds of full on touring cross country motorcycle runs 1190 in the quarter mile. Forget about it. LOL!
Malcolm Jones it is the greatest! My cousins and the brother in this video on the Harley talk so much shit to me and no matter what I say they think Harley is better. I can show them reliability statistics, smoke them, maintenance and repair costs comparisons and my bike "is still trash"... I don't get it, I guess when you overspendon an outdated yesterday's technology, tomorrows priced bike you gotta defend that stupid decision.
Fatman2wheels I highly doubt that's a stage 3 bike, a sportster with stage 2 head work and a 1250 Kit will give you a run for your money. Let's line up I've been waiting for a good race lol safe riding brother
Not even. That vtx stock is over 100hp a 1250 sportster with headwork depending on what you do is good for 80-90hp, and that’s if it’s injected with a tune. I know. I’ve owned 3 Harley’s and built them all. The Honda would whip its ass all over. Build and tune the Honda and it’s definitely over.
I own a 750 Shadow and love it. Looking at a VTX1800 for an upgrade next year. If I had a Harley, I wouldn't even talk about speed or reliability to a VTX rider. Harley is just fashion and history. I understand the importance of the brand in the past years, but today, If you wanna ride and have lot of fun, you'd better look at something else. If you're just a Harley enthusiast, you'd better acknowledge the limitations of your choice. Most Harley riders are just posers (unfortunately)
Keep us posted! On a 750 Aero myself and although I won't be able to upgrade for a couple of years I'm looking at either a VTX1800 or Valkyrie (older gen, not the new ones). Could tell the Harley guy was chatting shit since he 'modded'/beat with an ugly stick a lovely stock machine, while riding around with no gear at all. He did seem scared to open it up though, which is what I've seen a lot of here in the U.K.
Lier my shadow always got it's ass kicked by my brothers Harley. My 1300 vtx not so much but the Harley still wins. And my sabre had to go on reserve at 89 miles trying to keep up with his Harley. Stop lying fools.
My buddy has a 2018 fatbob 114 with bolt ons and a 93 octane tune. We are pretty much even but his Harley tops out at 125 and my 1800 has hit 140 on the speedo.😂
HA!! I have a 2009 FatBob 96ci ( EFI 6-speed), and other than the V&H pipes is bone stock. And a VTX1300 outran me from stop till he was long gone! ROFL! Granted, my FB runs 0-60 in about 5 seconds, and that in and of itself is NOT "Slow!". BUT...…...yeah...…...the Honda's are always faster! HAHAHAHA!
@@coyote102076 The vtx 1300 does 0-60 in around that same time. But it has extremely long gears... You finally shift to 4th gear at like 110mph if you run it to red line. The 1800 on the other hand, Will put multiple bus lengths on the 1300 rather quick.
I have a 2003 vtx 1800c and I've pegged the speedometer with throttle left, speedometer goes to 150. I believe mine will run 170 to 180 mph. Cruises all day at 120 mph.
I test rode a used VTX 1300 over 14 years ago and that thing moved out. Hundred like nothing. I guess they get better mileage than the 18 and not too much of a difference in performance. But there is a difference I'm sure. Both 13 + 18 excellent motorcycles.
Actually, they're light-years apart. Cannot compare the carburatted 1300cc engine that makes 75hp to the 1800cc injected engine that makes 100+ hp. The 1300cc sounds cooler though.
My Harley was in the shop so long I bought a VTX 1800f as a backup. You can guess the rest. Harley sold ( trans blew up on the new owner 22k mi ) and I'm getting home on the bike instead of a fuckin flatbed. To each his own.
Just bought an 02 with power commander intake and pipes wow ride 500 miles first ride and Harley boys couldn’t keep up especially on hills what a machine! And built here in USA 22 year old bike crushing new road glides wow and mine will last!
I have three bikes. Suzuki 800, sportster 1200 and a vtx 1800r. I go to clean the Harley and sale it. Most of the time, I don't know why, she have problems. The reliability of Honda is incomparable.
Thats what I love. People finance these insanely expensive Harleys and end up selling them or rarely riding them. If they do ride them, they end up having issues. I paid like 3k for my 1800c and it had like 7k miles on it
Doesn't take much to beat a Harley. My VStar 1300 I used to have would smoke any HD other than a VRod maybe(never faced one). My 1700 fi Road Star I have now is pretty damn fast also. Not really raced anyone with it yet though as I've only had it a month.
The best thing about Hardley Abelson is they convert gas into useless amounts of noise pollution without the side effect of horsepower, plus ppl pay for just the name 😂.
V-Rod or a Low Rider S is the only thing that would put up a fight. Other wise its cake all day. I had a 2004 vulcan 2000 and burnt plenty of Harleys. Sold that for a 2013 m109r and never lost a race to any cruiser no matter what it was lol
Brian J even the V-Rod can't pass it till over 100mph. But that's only because it's got more horsepower and less weight. those vrods are very nice bikes.
He either can’t ride or that bike is broken. I’ve raced an 05 1800 on my completely stock 96ci street bob and it wasn’t that far off. Maybe like a 1 bike length. Stock for stock the 1800 is definitely the faster bike, but there’s no way that Harley is stage 3 anything
it definitely was a stage 3 bike. He had all the receipts and warranty records for the installation. My best friends full bolt on 93 tuned 114 fatbob was dead even with the 1800 until i pulled away on the top end.
@@douglasbaileyjr3617 well it wouldn't be the first video on youtube where the author is claiming someone was challenging him to a race while the other guy was just minding his own business thinking "wtf is this guy about?"
I ride whatever I have in my garage. From a ZX12r to a Valkyrie to a Road King CVO down to a Honda 250 Rebel. Here is what kills me about these comparisons. The fact that a rider has to make a point to race a Harley is proof that the Harley is the King of Bikes. All bikes compare to a Harley, that is the ultimate statement. I don't ride my RK CVO for speed, I ride it because I like the sound, the feel and the "cadence" of the motor. I ride my ZX12r to race anything that comes along. I ride my Valkyrie because with the pipes on it, it sounds better than the fat lady singing in victory! I ride my 250 Rebel to practice slow speed riding. So, you ride what you like and you like what is under you while you ride. Don't compare your bike to a Harley or the Harley rider has already won....
My dude, you looked way to into it. That Harley rider is my brother and he was talking shit like brothers do. All of us motorcycle riders have the passion. He wanted to run them while we were out riding around. Harley is nothing but a name at this point. Overhyped, overpriced junk but the mentality of the Harley riders is nothing but arrogance.
@@fatman2wheels730 Ouch, "junk" is a little more than what millions voted with their wallet.. Overpriced? Yep. Overhyped? Yep. Overpriced "Junk"? No, not really. I have owned 10 Harleys and never has one of them broken down on me. I have put well over 500,000 on my Harleys combined. I have had all the Japanese brands and a few of the European brands too. My total riding (since Feb 1974) on all my large street bikes (over 40 of them) is well over 1 million miles. My M109R had a battery go bad. My KZ900 had a flat tire. My KZ1300A2 had a water pump shaft go bad. My Valkyrie 1500 had a hydrolock problem. My CBR1000F had problems if it was not started weekly (hard starting). Only one Harley had any problem and it was a Sportster. A coil wire vibrated loose while riding and I stopped, saw the wire hanging, plugged it back onto the coil and voila, never had a problem with it again.... So, conclusion is that all bikes have problems and Harley is not the only JUNK out there. In fact, I think that Harleys are made for people who "enjoy" working on, touching and riding bikes. Most riders, today, have no idea how to work on a bike so they call a Harley "junk" due to their lack of abilities. My ex-CHP FXR-P had 200,000 miles on it when I got rid of it and it still ran great, never let me down, but life is to experience not dwell on so I moved on to a BMW R1100RS whose front brake line split while going down Sparks Blvd, in Sparks, NV. Luckily Sierra BMW (Lane is a great guy) had the parts and I fixed it in their lot. Even overpriced BMWs can be "junk" since humans make inferior junk in life.
VTX is a good bike. My buddy Gene owns one... And my stock Yamaha Roadstar Warrior 1700 eats it every time... My modded Yamaha Roadstar Warrior 1700 is pulling 0-60 in about 3.2 sec. Ivan's tune, PR Vbac, 33 tooth front pully, PC3, Samson Sweepers on Shinko Verge ST
Those 18s bust up harleys and almost anything vtwin Saw 06 with intake exhaust and power commander 5 woop a new 117 three races to 125 I thought for sure he wouls lose but nope 2 car lengths both times
Yamasukihonda never ever beats Harley Davidson as bike ( construction, aura, carburateur, legend, sparks, stories, rubber mountings, chrome, female orgasmes etc etc etc .... Its not about speed its just about the need to ride Warm grtz to all riders
Got an 04,1800 vtx, slips in high gear when you hammer down. If you take it easy, you won't notice. Clutch job looks easier than my R1, but even that wasn't bad, compared to the starter on the R1. Clutch on the R1 went out, no warning, almost didn't make it home. 😖
Owned a 1800c VTX And yes they’ll smoke most Harley’s, but if you run into a Harley 124” or a stage 2 harley M8 the Harley would win. Depending on the components in the Harley, haven’t said that top end may be a different story. Owned both enjoyed both.
Something wrong here the Honda on the throttle and left hand not on the bar ! The 1800 vtx pulls so hard sometimes both hands slip on the bars , the 1300 not so much but enough you need both hands , i,ve owned both bikes !
I am still wondering, how this beast bike couldn't be a best seller in the US, with all its performance and reliability. Want to get one btw, but I am 1.7m tall and 68kgs , should it be taught to ride it?
I'm 5' 9" 150 lbs. No problem. LOOK (eyes and head) in the direction your aiming for. Helps tighten up turns. Also lowered bike 4" off pavement. 10 3/4" rear shocks and smaller spring for the front forks. Lowers center of gravity also. Short legs.
I really don't understand the point of spending tens of thousands of dollars on modifications on Harleys, which will lose sense because if you want performance you don't have to look for it on a Harley, if you want to go fast take something else. Harleys are made to go for peaceful rides and enjoy the sound and sensations that that engine gives you, so it makes no sense to look for the race and then be beaten to make the figure of the fool. At the same time I hate the bluster with Japanese motorcycles that boast about beating Harleys, It's an attitude of immature kids who deserve to have a moped. More respect and the world will be better.
Let's face the reality the Japanese make Superior motorcycles Harley-Davidsons sounds good looks good but those are not good enough reasons to purchase one how about Japanese bikes dependable reliable better quality
No hate against harleys but most of them are 120kg+ dudes on 90nm torque but wanna race guys like us sitting on 165nm of torque with 50 to 90kg well bruh ain't working out even on sheet of paper. Sadly i can't hold nor push the 1800 so im with a lovely unridden 8000miles 1300S :P
