Honda Wants you To STOP Mowing 

I bought an HRX a couple of years ago. My main reason for buying it was because it didn’t meet CA emission requirements. That’s how I roll.

Only in USA market, French plant will still be manufacturing mowers, with no plans to discontinue in near future.

I just bought a HRX217HYA 3 weeks ago! I will keep this one as long as possible!

My Honda HRX217HYA is around 5 years old and still starts on the first pull. Non-ethanol gas and regular maintenance has paid dividends here for sure

I have an old HR215 I bought new in '83 . Never had a really big yard, but I live in Phoenix so its used for winter and summer lawns. We moved into a retirement community last year . So the old mower is retired now also. I still keep here with me, I mowed with it for 39 years . I did do 2 work bench overhauls through the years, where i put in new rings and connecting rod and reseated the valves. Its an old friend !

Want a cordless electric mower. Back then, get a Honda. Nowadays, get an Ego.

It seems to be the perfect storm to do away with internal combustion engines right now. It is pretty stupid if you ask me, but I somehow feel as long as Japan exists there will be worthwhile alternatives. Don't ever go away, Japan!

I have the hrn now for 4 years, great mower! Why not just stop selling your products to that other country California?

Hi there. I can't believe I haven't subbed yet. Just did. Well with the Honda mowers. They are the only mower that have 4 carb gaskets and long pins that are hard to line up. Plus the GCV has the diagonal split crankcase. Kind of a big complaint of mine. It is good the GX series doesn't have them both, and they have survived Honda's first purge. Thanks for the informative video.

I think part of it is that everyone copies their motors now. The portable power generator market is full of Honda clones. To bad they don’t last as long as a Honda. But they last so long that repeat buyers are a decade or more apart, makes it hard on the quarterly reports. They entered the battery market to soon and left to quickly. Look how fast EGO is growing, it shows it’s not the price point, Milwaukee and Ego are killing it with their battery products.

Its because 21 other states have legislation that follow or adopt changes based on California CARB regulations. Its not just California ruling against Honda's emissions on the GCV consumer engine product lines. Honda will continue production of the GCX industrial engines.

I just don't see people who don't care about their lawn spending 3 k on a mower...the guys that do care want to do it themselves.

I definitely think this has something to do with stricter environmental regulations and Hondas focus on growing profitable products. Honda seem to be planning their future in the EV market, developing two large battery electric vehicles in conjunction with General Motors under the Honda and Acura banners. Honda used to be very much in the forefront of technology, releasing stuff way ahead of competitors, but their hydrogen-powered Honda FCX Clarity was a flop when they brought it out in California ahead of anything else. They seem to be much more calculated in their ventures nowadays.

First thing that came to mind is, they just need to put a mower deck on a UTV. If I thought of it, many others probably thought the same thing.

I’m bummed. I had a turd Briggs engine on my toro super recycler I bought 2 years ago……it was a perfect mower besides the engine. I would have paid 200 more bucks for a Honda engine on it

My HRR from 2012 is still running like day 1. Doesn’t need a whole to maintenance. Battery powered mowers is taking over and I’m not totally onboard with it, yet until I’m forced too.

Good time to be Briggs or Kawasaki. Word around the campfire is Honda just didn't want to invest into making thier engines compliant. I feel they might be suffering from what WV did with thier disastrous diesel they had to recall. Whole lot easier to write it off as a lost then trying to retrofit it all in some cases.

This appears to be the latest area in which Honda is reducing their presence in the ICE area. They pulled out of F1 (again) and they're no longer making lawnmowers. Who knows what's next. Is it a business decision? Are those segments no longer profitable? I have a hard time believing that this is a profitability issue. Per Christian Horner, Team Principal for Red Bull Racing: "[...]Honda announced their withdrawal because their range of vehicles was heading the electrical route and obviously combustion engines didn’t form part of their future. [...]" My gut feeling is that this has more to do with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) scoring and how it will affect Honda's ability to do business in the future. So, will we see the end of Honda ICEs in all areas? I believe that the answer is yes. But not all at once. Much like the proverbial frog in the slowly heating water, their withdrawal will be slow. I believe that the movement towards electrification is simply a move to a longer tailpipe. NIMBY, anyone?

Honda didn’t do enough to let consumers know they had a battery mower. I would love to see one and play with it. For the record, “Yes” my state sucks and our decision makers ruin it for others, but man I love the weather to much to worry about the little things. I love my side by side, she goes with me everywhere and keeps me in check😂.

This year I replaced all my yard equipment with battery powered equipment. I'll be using an auto mower for the backyard next year. It's just all so convenient it's hard to not switch.

The Honda versions you get are S&^t U.S made. Sorry but they are. HRN is made by Mattel that Ken uses on Barbie's Lawn. This California Emission People should look at how much it takes to build the Hybrids and the Full Electric Versions. 5 to 7 times the input than what comes out of the exhaust pipe.

I'm still trying to understand Honda's deal with leaving Formula 1 racing, which with the Red Bull team being so successful(champions last year and now this season too) they have hung in there a bit longer, saying they were done in 2021 but now not till 2025? maybe ....anyway, the only Honda I own is the CBR1100XX Super Blackbird, a 1998 the last year it was the fastest production motorcycle till the Hayabusa(named after a falcon that preys on blackbirds) and then it was agreed the top speed race would be ended(capped at 300km/h now, or something) but I think the Honda bike looks and rides much more civilized altho I'm done with petrol powered lawn tools(and nearly autos too) there is just no longer a need for them for average home uses with where the cost, ease of use, and performance is now with e-powered
