Do YOU think the XR100 is too outdated now? How to make trail riding safer using basic techniques [Get my guide for FREE today] - motocrosshideout.com/free-lessons/

The xr100 is probably the best all around bike ever made for the normal rider, it will never be outdated in my opinion ! We own one and just everyone rides it doesn’t matter size or weight ! They are fun to ride and fun to maintenance. I’d recommend it to everyone. Plus kickstart only is good for new riders to learn how to start one the old school way. #1 downfall is suspension for a heavier rider .

You and I think alike! Some people are just too proud to admit that it's such a solid dirt bike.

Nearly ANY Honda air cooled off road bike is a fantastic machine. The simpler, the better. Lots of information, parts, documentation. XR/CRF100 particularly is very light, but will hold most adults no problem. For harder riding, the 200+ sizes are just as reliable and easy to maintain. The 2 stroke bikes are a bit simpler engine valve train, but 4 stroke is very user friendly. Many things that "modern bikes" have can add weight and complexity and cost - water cooling & radiator, battery & electric start circuit & starter, disc brakes & hydraulic fluid. Stay gold.

The only thing that stops a Honda XR100 is running out of gas, or a flat tire. That's it.

Just found your channel. Been searching for a good used bike for my 12yr old son. He’s ridden a TTR 110 for 4 years and I’d like to find him something a little bigger with a clutch to really learn to ride. Your videos have been really helpful as I’ve never been into dirt bikes and there are so many models and different styles. It’s difficult to wade through them all to make sure we get the right kind of bike. He’s convinced he wants a KTM 85 and I feel like it’s too much bike for him. He’s never ridden motocross and his only experience with a clutch was one afternoon on a 4 wheeler. He did well but I don’t think that means I should buy him a race bike. Thank you for the valuable info!
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 3 месяца назад
Yeah, the race bikes are fun, but they're a lot harder to handle, especially if your son is going to be doing any woods/trail riding. The XR100 would be a good upgrade from the 110 as far as size and a great way to learn how to use the clutch. Less maintenance, too! Thanks for watching!

I’ll be checking out a xr100 tomorrow 1987 what are some things I should inspect like for the motor and when I test ride it to make sure the motor is still decent ?
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 3 месяца назад
Hey Troy, make sure there's oil on the dipstick - bike must be upright when you set the dipstick back in. Pay attention to how easy (or hard) it is to start. Listen for any knocking noises. And then make sure it shifts smoothly through all the gears. Hope that helps!

Hey bro just got the 1987 xr100 seems real easy to kick over has a bit of resistance but am worried the compression is low runs great tho
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 2 месяца назад
They're fairly easy to kick over compared to a bigger race bike. If you're worried about it, I'd recommend getting a compression tester and doing a proper test. Otherwise, if it's starts right away hot or cold, it might be fine.

@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 3 месяца назад
You're definitely taller than the intended rider. If you're just starting out or riding it conservatively then it'll be fine. Once you start bottoming out the suspension frequently, then you'll want to consider upgrading.

@@MotocrossHideout I’m not a beginner I’ve ridden bigger bikes just don’t have much money and doing the this bike for pretty cheap so as long as I don’t go too hard it’ll be fine? Just hope it does good on trails for me and stuff

@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 5 месяцев назад
Hey Alberto, it depends on his size and if you want a dirt bike with a manual clutch. If yes, and your son fits well (can touch the ground), then yes, it's an excellent bike to upgrade to from a Honda 50.

Are 80s hondas like xl500 still viable long term bike? I lwant a long term but dont want waste $. In my area A fully functional 1982 honda xl500 is $1800, while newer fuel injection bikes like 2019 yamaha xt250, kawasaki klx 250 are $3000.

The technology hasn't changed much on the air-cooled bikes, so it would be relatively fun and easy to ride, but it's a heavier bike and parts will be a lot harder and more expensive to find/buy.

@@MotocrossHideout but an old XR might need a lot of work so almost better off buying a new bike. Plus hard to find parts for an old bike.
@MotocrossHideout
@MotocrossHideout 5 месяцев назад
That's like saying you might as well buy a new car because a used one "MIGHT" need a lot of work. Which can be true, but if you know what to look for, you can save a lot of money buying used, which is what I've been doing for years. Also, last I checked, most online retailers still have new OEM parts for the XR100.
