Very cool video. I think the part I like the most is where you and your dad are riding. He seems to be quite the hooligan... popping those wheelies! Congrats on his weight reduction and hope that leads to many more years of riding together! I think I'm more like your dad and lean towards the old tech 650 and its longer service intervals.
@Robert DeMilo Really appreciate it! 650 definitely is the better long term reliable fun bike. He is definitely the hooligan lol 😂 Will definitely be making some more 650 vids here soon. Hope you had a awesome Christmas! Thanks for watching and the kind words my friend 🤘🏼
Nice video! I love my XR650L for off road riding and touring, pretty solid bike for that. My dream bike for supermoto is a Husaberg FE 570 pared down to only the essentials. I would love to carve up the smooth roads around my old hometown in deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains...
Thanks! The 650 is a tank. Still really fun in supermoto trim! That husky would be dope. Im actually head down their tomorrow for another tail of the dragon trip! 🤙🏼Thanks for watching!
@@Floatsorrolls1 if you're ever able to, check out Hwy 178 north from Hwy 11 into Rosman, then 215 north from Rosman up to the Parkway. My favorite ribbon of asphalt in the country!
@@HydeMyJekyll will definitely have to check them out! Had a little trouble around the Tail this trip finding gas but next time we are down will have to check some of those roads out. Thanks! 🤙🏼
How did you make the speedometer works on the 650l? I’ve been looking to make my a supermoto but I can find someone that makes my speedometer works with the supermoto wheels conversion. Thank you.
We got our supermoto wheels from procycle and when you buy through them they give you option to lace the 17” rims to oem hubs. This allows you to use the stock speedo. Note it will read roughly about 10-12% off but still operate as normal! Hope this helps and thanks for watching! procycle.us/model/honda/xr650l/wheels?v=3655
4:00. I have an Eibach rear spring as well 12.5. I was unable to install it with the lettering right side up thou it would only fit on one way on 93 650l. Did you have that problem?
I just baught the 2021 650l and want to put 17 inch supermoto rims. what tires are those. Also what ims model footpeg is that, that fits on the 650l,I can’t get them to answer the phone. Love your set up
@Breakdownbill1 sorry for the late reply! Thanks! The tires are contiAttack sm Evos they are awesome and super sticky! The IMS footpeg model #292211-4. The pegs are also available at motosport.com. Thanks for watching! 😎
Appreciate it! No lowering link but the supermoto wheels do help with seat height not sure how much but definitely a noticeable amount. Thanks for checking it out 😎🤙🏼
@@Floatsorrolls1 Thank you for responding. I was wondering if you lowered it to level the bike out because of losing the 4 inches in wheel size in the front. I wondered if it made it sloped towards the front with the SM wheels. I'm about to order SM wheels for my 2022 xr650l and I'm 6'1" so the seat height isn't an issue. Enjoy the bike I'm just waiting on nice weather in NY!
Love this..I have a Xr650l and it spooks me off road on single track stuff cuz the ride height being i am short , old and fat but always love it on road. I am going SM on the XR and get a CRF300l for the dirt stuff
@Jeeper Heck yah! The CRF300L will be cool 😎. The XR with supermoto wheels makes it a whole new bike. Way more fun through the curves and super nimble.
I got a Supermoto xr650l just put together on my channel check it out,,that will get you motivated lol. It’s beyond fun to ride. I am also old and fat ha!
Yes we went with procycle for this reason. They lace excel supermoto rims to oem hubs allowing you to use the oem speedo. It reads around 10%or20% off but not a big deal once you get used to it. Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼
How did you get the stock speedo to work with the smaller wheel? And did you have to modify the front brake line at all after mounting the caliper bracket to fit the new rotor size?
For the 650l they sell supermoto wheels laced to factory hubs from procycle.us. While the speedo does work it reads roughly 10% fast. There is no easy solution to making the speedo read accurate. So we just let read fast. No modifications to the brake line is required. One thing with the oversize brake rotor is it more of pain to remove the wheel since you have to remove the rotor before u can put on the wheel and take off. The caliper doesnt slide on and off the rotor like normal install.
@UPGRAYEDD603 Front 3.5 x 17” Rear 4.25 x 17” We purchased them from procycle.us They are excel rims laced to oem hubs which are awesome 🤙🏼 Makes it a complete different bike! Good luck and thanks for watching!
It does not have the cush hub but the spines are perfect on it. If you have the factory sprocket this is a concern supermoto setup or factory. But with the sprocket we put on its way better protection of the cs splines.
@@Floatsorrolls1 maybe some Red and Tacky grease on the splines would help also. Mine were worn when I got it, from that stupid stock sprocket, but holding up ok with the R sprocket. I should get one that’s got the better chain alignment though.
@Ronel Brown Have over 10k miles on this sprocket and definitely still good will just be something u have to check. If u take it off road it will wear out sooner but the mod to the sprocket cover in the video will make it quick and easy to check and look at. It also makes it easier to clean when u go to clean the front sprocket on maintenance.
@Coff1nFiLL3r Roughly 10% high on the 650L. The 450l is recalibrated for accurate reading thru a 12clocklabs speedo recalibrator. The tail light doesnt really illuminate the plate at all at night and if you were to go with tht one I recommend an led bulb cuz the regular bulbs burn out fairly quick and have had no problems with the led.
@Coff1nFiLL3r lol no problem 👌🏼. The sumo wheels did lower it slightly due to the smaller diameter wheel but we did not install a lowering link. At that point you might need a shorter kickstand but with just the wheels ur golden.
Runs perfect! Used a 165 main jet and new needle spring as instructed. Link to jet kit www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dynojet-stage-1-jet-kit-honda-xr650l-1993-2019 Thanks for watching my friend 🍺
Comparing it to stock wheels its geared down some. We hardly ever drive on the highway, mostly back twisty roads but would say it can do highway speeds just fine. Woulnt go super long distance since it would be higher rpm than stock but could be adjusted to a taller gearing with larger front sprocket or smaller rear sprockets(more adjustability doing the rear) to make it more similar to stock or suitable for highway driving. All depending on your riding style and preference.
@Pseudo Scientist lol supermoto wheels! They are 17’ rims that convert the dual sport into a supermoto bike and change the handling dramatically on the street! They are awesome! The smaller size allows the bike to react quicker(handle better) and when paired with some sticky tread makes for some serious lean potential on twisties.
@Juan Huttoe you have to change the speedo gear on the front axle. We didnt change it on the 650 so our speedo reads slightly fast. On the 450l we did go ahead and get a 12oclock labs speedo recalibration.
