Thanks Dave this is the most funniest video you've put out and enjoyable thanks and I definitely enjoyed the the description of the sound especially the playful punch in the cheek and everything is light and airy everything's floaty whoo
I just snagged these on sale Dave. Paired with the Topping A90, damn. Yeah, the build quality is not great, but given that I'm not engaged in sumo wrestling whilst I listen to Glenn Gould beating the crap out of Bach, I'm okay with the build given the price point. 😉.
I’ve got to say, I’m a little puzzled by this review. I own several different pairs of headphones, these ones included, and for $220 they do quite well. I should also mention that I have three headphone amps as well as three different receivers that I’ve tried the headphones with. Yeah the build isn’t the best, but I’m ok with that because they put all of the money into the amazing sound. In fact, Zeos reviewed these and said they are the best planar that Drop has ever done. He’s really impressed with them too. I don’t find the treble peaky either. I will say that the HE5xx is particular about which amp it’s paired with. With the Schiit Jotunheim, it has a somewhat warming presentation. Well worth the price. I’d suggest a person perhaps listen to a few different reviews before making up his/her mind.
So glad you're back on here full time. Isn't one of these Hifiman headphones just the Deva without Bluetooth? I thought it was this one but then saw your reply to a previous comment. To be honest, there are so many iterations in Hifiman's lineup it's almost impossible to keep them straight.
Been a long time since I heard the 4xx. If memory serves me correctly, the 4xx has more body and more note weight. The bass has more bass impact. Treble and bass aren't as extended. 5xx has more air and wider stage. I'd probably lean 4xx because of note weight and bass impact.
Great review as always. How does this sound against the Hifiman HE-400i? Are they pretty much the same headphone, just different cosmetics and one is from Drop?
Been a long time since I head a 400i and I honestly don't remember enough to do a fair comparision. Here are links to the various 4xx variants I have reviewed on the channel. Drop 4xx ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jIk7ptydZ4E.html 400i 2020 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JZOM-cIfPjc.html If memory serves me correctly, the sonic differences are subtle. The build quality is better on the originals and the 4xx. Thanks for the kind words, greatly appreciated. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing 💓
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thank you Dave! Really appreciate those links. Actually I didn't know you had reviewed the HE-400i 2020 last year. Just watched it. You're always on point!
Hello. There is a choice between 400i 2020, 4xx and 5xx. The priority is a wide stage, detailed mids, relatively deep bass and light, unobtrusive lows. What sounds better from your point of view? Or maybe there are competitors in this price range that will match the above preferences? If I expressed myself badly, I apologize for my English.
I recommend the Sundara; the 560s has been sold and the Sundara remains at my desk. The 560s does a lot right but misses a tad in the upper/mids/lower treble, tone and timbre. Over time the Sundara has paired better with my gear and the treble, tone and timbre has grown on me. I appreciate the Sundara more now then when I reviewed it. Overall, the Sundara is more refined and defined in detail retrieval, resolution,. The HD560s is aggressive and bright in upper mids presentation. very interesting. How would the soundstage of these compare to, say, the HD800? How would the build quality compare to the Sundara or the Ananda? thanks for making the video, at one point I was drawn to buying these, but since I had a headphone already in that price range, I wanted to just save up for something higher-end, and oh boy I'm glad that I did (sub-par build quality is one of my pet peeves)
Haven't heard a HD800 in a very long time. If memory serves me correctly, the HD800 is similar width but way better depth and layering. HD800 excels in separation, imaging and accurateness. HD800 is in a complete different universe in comparison to 5xx.
The Deva is way better built. Similar sonics as the Deva has more bass impact and isn't as airy throughout and the treble isn't as peaky. Thanks for the kind words, greatly appreciated.
I would look at the Rosson RAD-0 with the stock, neutral tuning. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v_t72Zr_DT0.html The Meze Empyrean is another option to consider but has a more colored sound. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W70pS86glv4.html
Why are these so hard to drive if they're 18 ohms? I've had them a year and I like them a lot and they're the hardest to drive headphones I have, harder than hd6xx 300 ohm and dt770 pro 250 ohm
