Honest breakdown of an inexpensive Ford Econoline lift that fits a 265/75r16 with no cutting fenders

I hope this helps anyone looking for the budget approach at lifting their Ford Econoline van and fitting a larger tire. I have $2150ish in wheels, tires, lift kit and install including alignment in this van so far. This is a Fordpartsone lift and they are a terrible company to deal with but they bought out Maxxlift and are the only show in town making a lift spacer for these Econoline vans so you're at the mercy of their terrible customer service, 0 phone number to call and goofy fees and costs involved in the lift (they ask how many lug nuts your van has and they charge you more based on how many you have even though their kit does absolutely nothing with lug nuts), then you'll have to pay some other fee that's $40 more dollars so your $300 kit after their bs fees will cost $400 and you'll only use the front components because no one needs the rear blocks and u bolts since the objective is to level your van, not make it taller and still sit like a stinkbug!! Sorry about the rant but I have no patients for incompetent companies and this is surely one. With that being said here is an honest rundown of what to expect and how you can achieve a lift on a budget on your E series van. Mine in the video is a 2011 E350 with a 5.4 but they are all pretty similar unless you have an early e150. Early e150s sit a lot lower but in 07 I believe they all went to an 8 lug configuration and it's hard to tell a difference in a 150, 250 or 350 by visually looking at ride height. Early ones are very low and have 5 lug hubs with weak spring rates. In 07ish the radius arms changed as well to a heim like pivot (not a heim but same concept) mount as opposed to the early E series had a rubber bushing it would pivot on at the rear frame mount bracket. Personally I feel the 07 and newer radius arms are a huge improvement because of this mounting style.
Tires-265/75r16 Bfgoodrich Ko2. I explain in the video why I always choose this tire. Well worth the extra money, excellent inroad and off. $200.00 each after tax from Discount tire
Wheels-Vision Manx 16x8 with 0 offset. In the video I explain the wheel weight issues with running a 16" wheel so pay attention to the video. The brake caliper clearance is not enough once a stick on weight is applied to the inside of the wheel. We used a press on weight that attaches to the inside lip but I will be removing those and adding balancing beads inside tires to remedy any wheel weight issues in the future. $596.00 after tax from Discount tire. Shop your tires and wheels on eBay and you'll find these prices at discount tire direct. Then my local discount tire matched the online price after tax.
Install costs on wheels and tires $60
Black splined lug nuts $40
Fordpartsone lift $401 delivered to my door
Install at shop with alignment $305. Make sure they do not use adjustable alignment cams. Use fixed position cams so you're not fighting with alignment issues in the future.

Adjustable camber bushings are fine, just mark where they should be and if they get off it's a simple ratchet to get it back in place. Beats the stock one and the horrible steering from lack of positive camber stock

Right on, same lift i was thinking about. I should just make my own spacers and give em some competition. I want to make a product. They got a groove in em? I need a picture of the other side and measurements on em. I guess i could design my own from scratch too. I might be able to pull it off with a benchtop mill.

I have a 2014 E250. Looking to put 17" wheels. What size tire do you recommend? I saw mixed answers on Sportmobile forum and Facebook. Someone said they had 265/70r17 on stock height. Also, is anything other than an alignment necessary to install 2-2.5" spacers?

Matt, curious as to why you don't think this would work with a 4.6L. Is that just if you off-road? I have a 2011 e150 xlt. Want to put this lift kit and 265/70/17 tires with new rims on it. Just use the van for occasional weekend trips and local driving. I live in FL, so things are pretty flat here. Curious about your thoughts. TY for the post. It was excellent.

Why is the tire a P16 and not an R16? And personally I would have used a block in the rear. I like the aggressive look of it being higher in the rear instead of level. With it level if you put any weight in the back it's going to sag.

I have done this same lift and run 17s with a 0 offset wheel 17x8.5 and they for fine. Probably fit better than the 16s since you don't have to be as careful about wheel weight placement since the 17 gives you a little more room.

I don't have any 1st hand experience with a ford parts one kit in an e150. I have had 2 e150s but one was 4x4 swapped and the other had a 4.6 in it so I didn't bother lifting since it somewhat struggled in stock form. I know there is a huge difference in how the early 2000s e150s sit compared to the newer late 2000s e150s sit stock. My early one I 4x4 swapped was very low and the suspension rates were super light. My later e150 had 8 lug wheels instead or 5x5.5 and it sat almost the same as a stock e250 or 350. I wish I had more first hand experience with the scenario you're dealing with but I'd say run it and leave a comment if it worked. Help out anyone else that is thinking about going that route. Worst case scenario you may have to trim the pinch seam or use a sledge hammer to massage the seam out of the way!! Good luck.

I have a 2006 e150 with a front coil spacer that goes on the top. Was supposed to lift it 3” but I only got 1” of lift- apparently it was supposed to be a 2:1 ratio. Anyways any suggestions on tire size for this at about 1” lift? I was trying to squeeze in a 265/70/16. Discount tire said it’s trial and error but once it’s mounted I own it. So I’m leaning toward a 245/75/16. I’m more worried about rub on the steering stabilizer bar.
@mattlentz5107
@mattlentz5107 2 года назад
I'd go with the 245/75r16 with such a small lift. You can fit that tire without a lift on the 250s and 350s. Usually discount tire is pretty good about letting you order 2 sizes and trial and error them. I have done it a few times. If your wheel offset is 0 or slightly positive you could probably clear that 265/70. The issue you may run into is that pinch seam at the bottom front of the fender/door. The easiest solution to that seam is a 5lb sledge hammer and fold that seam towards the inside of the van. If you get wild with a cutoff wheel it will leave a sharp edge like a razor and could slice a tire. Also I have seen people trim so much that it leaves a pocket where water and debris will collect or always be making a mess of your door jamb.

Yes nothing changes as far as the spacer goes from 92 to 2017 (or whenever E series production stopped) I believe in 08ish they changed the configuration of the radius arm mounts from a bushing to more of a uniball style mount but this has nothing to do with the spring spacer. The idiots at Ford parts one that sell the spacer will make sure you get the right spacer! But any year econoline of this body style can use this lift spacer. Early e150s were different though. They evolved from a 5 lug to an 8 lug and the suspension on early e150 was not great. Hope this helps.

We are always up in the eastern sierra mountain trails and out in the az desert. I have never had an issue and we get into some stuff that we probably shouldn't be in in a 2wd but always have made it out. I have had 2 other 4x4 swapped econolines and I really didn't enjoy the daily drive of them. So it's a compromise I guess. You'll never be as comfortable driving a 2wd 50 miles down a dirt road as you'd be in a 4x4 but the true amount of drive time that you need 4x4 is so minimal I can't justify the $16k swap. I think the ideal setup is a simple 2wd lift with a locker or limited slip and a winch up front.

So you save your money and drop 3 to 4k on a better lift if you've got it. As far as the video quality, I'm some dude with an old cell phone making a video to help people see what they get with a certain lift.
