Thank you for this review. I was trying to convince my husband in getting a PB smoker/grill. Your review has convinced me into agreeing with my husband on his choice for this ZG!! Great review.
Wow that is definitely heavy duty Tom! I actually thought it was a Weber at first look. That biscuit test was very impressive. It’s probably the double walled construction. Looking forward to seeing more videos and cooks. Thanks for sharing Tom!
Great job as always Tom Glad I got a Akron 3 years ago as my first “Smoker” $299 and I can sear/low and slow and control my smoke profile I hear Pellet grills are a jack of all trades, master of none,
Gotta say, appreciated your review. Helped me to choose to order the 1102B ZGrill. Can't wait to get it! It will compliment my Member's Mark Pro Series Pellet Grill
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Well Tom, the grill arrived. VERY disappointed. Control panel does nothing but flash all sort of unintelligible characters. Cannot get through to anyone in CS for 2 days now. They don't return calls. IDK if you have some secret to find them but they're useless. Thinking I am gonna send this thing back. Very bad CS
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Be glad. It's a cool grill. And a lot of grill for the $$$ but there is no customer support if/when needed. At least I am able to use it, cooking on it now using the phone app
A keep warm function? Whoa! I love how the shelf extends to the hopper. The drain tube looked pretty skinny in your first shot but during the fire up it looks ok.
Sweet looking grill sir! Z-Grills has been cranking out winners. I've been doing large smokes lately, so I just added one of those Pit Boss vertical pellet smokers a few weeks ago. I did 8 chickens yesterday on it. Have you looked at the new Pit Boss griddle lineup yet? They've managed to produce a non-stick flat top that takes like 3 minutes to clean. I'm looking at the Sierra 3-burner at Walmart, which is apparently exactly the same as the $200 more expensive 3-burner Ultimate version. I was skeptical, but several RU-vidrs are now over 100 Cooks on it, and the ceramic non-stick is holding up like a champ. I usually just use a cast iron plate, but the idea of a big dedicated griddle is really growing on me :-) Cheers!
*Haha It looks like the Traeger and the Weber hit it off and had a baby..* So now it’s called the B2! 🤣 Looks like an amazing grill, the whole layout, the shelf, the controller, everything screams Traeger. I’m glad they didn’t go with the Weber style deflectors deal, that’s an insurance claim waiting to happen. However I’m sad that they went with a rounded heat deflector. Wish they would’ve stayed with the flat one. Having owned 5 pellet smokers of both kind, I simply prefer the flat drip pan/ heat deflector.. Handles better, easier to foil, and less flare ups if you push those high high temps, because your oil isn’t all bunched up on the outside of the pan… Flat is the way to go for me personally but that’s usually something you can change yourself. The thing that excites me the most on these is the insulated chamber and the new controller! One question, can you order one of those new controllers and install em in my current 700? I know the template won’t fit, but I’d be able to 3D Print an angled mount that would make it fit.
Sorry Tom, I don't see the value in that grill, nice, but no big deal, especially when compared to grills like the PitBoss-1600 for about the same $$, getting alot more grill for the $$, and for about 200.00 more, the 1600 Pro-Series- Elite, SS, blows it away. It is good to see that Z- Grills are finally starting to get with some of the more modern features with this one though... Keep up the Great Job and Videos and Take Good Care!!!
I love you say this is the best and Heavy Duty, yet the Yoder YS480s weights almost 400 pounds...and is made here in america. This is thin chinese metal...no different than Traeger or Pit Boss.
Looks like a decent pellet smoker, but I didn't see anything 'new' or exciting that would make this the best of the year. And the grilling function is a bit awkward with having to remove a number of pieces to put the cast iron griddle on. Not sold on this unit.
Tom.... Are you going to do the two ultimate mods on this ?.... install a rotisserie ? and the Thermometers on the Front.... Like you did with the Char-Griller Gravity 980 ???😉😎
Thanks for Watching, Because the fan is always running and the vents are louvered the answer is no. All grills whether it a pellet grill, gas grill, charcoal grill have some type of vent which needed for combustion and air flow.
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Tom after watching this vid snd the pellet pro vid about a dozen times i ordered a pellet pro from dennis today , the quality of that pit is fantastic plus a 7yr warrenty Hes only 45min south of me from Waterford so if i need anything they’re close Thx for all the great reviews
What about the kando champ or rival , smokin brothers , lone star , Yoder or pitts and spitts they are all made not just assembled in America!!! They are all miles ahead the z grill . Honest list on best pellet grills , I think not , shameful opinion, I think so
Hey Tom, great review video. I just ordered its big brother 11002B from Sam’s Club for $499. Do you think that adding some small magnets with liquid nails or wood glue to the corners of the cutting board would be a “do-able” mod?
I bought this grill because of you !! I was 10 seconds from pulling the trigger on a GrillaGrill Alpha .. you can’t find any info at all on the zgrill 702b except for your channel, they don’t even promote it on their website
Talk about DeJa'Vu, that's my Traeger Timberline 850 without the price tag. In full disclosure, I see several cost cutting differences, and I got my Timberline 850 on a huge 40% discount, so it was only $150 more. I like the grease management system on the Z Grills better. That said, this now competes with the Traeger Ironwood 650 for $300 less (the Timberline series is totally different now and ridiculously priced). Pretty much a no brainer on which one you'd buy. Once again, Z Grills puts a cost competitive option out there.
Have you had a chance to use the WiFi/app features at all? I ordered the larger version of this recently, but I'm curious if the app does the basics well, e.g., changing temp, monitoring, alerts if something goes wrong, and so on.
Thanks for watching! Not much of an App kind of guy, but I did try it once just to confirm that it worked, which it did. FYI it needs 2.4 g to work if you only have 5 g it won’t work. I’ve noticed that for all these Wi-Fi apps
I'm liking the build quality but where is the ash dispenser? All this and no ash dispenser? I don't sear much so the trouble to sear is not a big deal but come on, did they forget to make clean up easy
Pellet smokers is not real bbq. Nor should it be allowed in competition bbq. They are the lazy way to do things. “Fake it till ya make it” style of cooking. You could give one of these to someone who has never cooked bbq in their life and with the right flavor profiles, ie rube, sauces, and injections could win a bbq competition. Maintaining a proper fire is the most import part of good bbq. This “set it and forget it” style is just lazy.
