I followed your advice a year ago on the cruiser 200. I've done ribs, spiral ham, pork belly burnt ends, cream cheese and more. I just bought a new 7002C that will be here tomorrow. I also ordered an extra rtd probe and grate clips to relocate it to a better area per your upgrade video. Absolutely can't thank you enough for the detail, suggestions and ability to trust what you say.
Just bought my first pellet grill and it was the Z grill 700-2F. I'm loving it so far. I agree with everything that you said. I wasn't even looking for one and came across a road show at Sam's club. They sold me on it. And the price was unbeatable. $399. I would recommend it to anyone.
Well Tom I glad you did a review on this grill. Been looking for a upgrade to another pellet grill have a trigger but I like these better from my research
Been following you for a little while but thanks for this review! Because you like these so much, I just pulled the trigger on a 700D2 that I found for $200 off msrp. Basically the same model with a bottom cabinet and DOUBLE WALL INSULTED! I was about the pull the trigger on a camp chef woodwind, which I'm sure is great, but happy to save ~$300 (well I guess $400 when you count the in included cover). I'm excited thanks again!
Treat review on the Z Grills 7002F2 Tom. If I was in the market for a new pellet grill, this would be on the top of the list. I'll be watching for the first cook on this one. Thanks.
I appreciate the review. Good information and good presentation. I just picked up this model for $163 at my local Albertsons (Safeway). They were on clearance so the deal was hard to pass up. It was already assembled and had some issues…lcd panel was on the inside instead of seated on the outside. Took me a minute to figure out why it wouldn’t tighten up. So far, so good. Very well built.
I really like the simplicity of my ZGrill. I've smoked and cooked a tri tip, rack of pork ribs, and jalapeño bacon wrapped poppers that were perfect. Purchased mine at Albertsons/Vons for 399.00 after a 100.00 off coupon, great deal.
Tom I just assembled my 700D3 model. I see a lot of features I like, I have not fired it up yet. But I am not going to lie, the metal on the cooking tube is quite thin compared to some grills, pellet grills, and offsets I have used. So thin during shipping, one side of the chamber kinda moved the structure of the chamber where the lid sits. Now the lid doesn't sit flat as expected. I may take a rubber mallet to it gently to bring it back. When I tap on the cooking chamber, it sounds like a thin aluminum trash can. I mean if I hit hard enough it could dent it. For example, look at your screws in the cooking chamber, they have morphed the metal to fit the fitting and structure. We shall see, I never take anything from any company and have even turned down Walmart's Expert Grill. But I will give an honest review on this pellet grill and see how it performs this weekend.
Looks like a nice grill. My sons in the market so I forwarded your video to him. Also I just saw a new PK go grill. That would be a good one to review by you Tom.
Tom, I love your videos. Keep 'em coming. One note: I think you mean to say simple, rather than simplistic. Simplistic has a negative connotation. I wish I lived in the land of grills. :-)
PID proportional interval derivative. Is more accurate as it is predictive and uses rate of change and error to make adjustments with less overshoot. This is the standard in modern automation
Thanks for the informative review. I am looking to purchase this this unit and your video helps me with my decision. Question-how long does the grill take to reach 400 degrees? I’m looking for something I can use in place of the oven. Thanks!!
Hey Tom, was wondering what the temperature increments are on that new controller? Does it just “click” into the 25 DEG marks indicated on the controller face or does is have more adjustability, say 5 DEG increments? Also, do you have any experience with thermal blankets for cold climates? Thanks for all the great content!
Thanks for Watching Thomas! 25 degree increments, Z Grills does make a thermal blanket for their pellet grills, but I haven’t tried it. I do have one for the Camp Chef and it make a difference on those days when it was below 20. I’ve heard others say that they’ve used welding blankets
Thanks for Watching! Congrats on the new grill!…www.amazon.com/gp/buyagain/ref=pd_rhf_d_ee_s_rp_c_sccl_2_5/136-6579918-6057358?pd_rd_w=G0jZO&content-id=amzn1.sym.9d09eb23-e409-456c-a62e-d6e7fcc2faec&pf_rd_p=9d09eb23-e409-456c-a62e-d6e7fcc2faec&pf_rd_r=831HWJQXD4VWQWDCKB0E&pd_rd_wg=IXxd3&pd_rd_r=cdfbd998-4dae-4ae0-b1d4-3a837852dc48&pd_rd_i=B01DMFP1TO&ats=eyJleHBsaWNpdENhbmRpZGF0ZXMiOiJCMDFETUZQMVRPIiwiY3VzdG9tZXJJZCI6IkExUVE5V0JWSU1DWVRTIn0=
Thanks for Watching Arthur! That is not correct, they do sell a cast iron griddle that fit directly over the burn pot. its about 1/4 of the size of the grill but it gets 600 degrees hot
Ok,, Smoke Daddy doesn’t make the 700 anymore just the 1150, so if 700 sq inches is what lookin for then the Z grill might work for you. There are other pellet grills that are 700 sq inches.
I'm new to the smoker world and would like to get something that will last a while and take the place of my gas grill. I was looking at either this model or the FLAGSHIP 700D4E because it has the enclosed cabinet for storage. The one thing I really enjoy cooking on the gas grill are steaks. Most of the reviews I have read all say just about the same thing, pellet grills are not great for grilling steaks because you need that direct flame to sear and give it the grill marks. I saw the cast iron grilled BBQ plate you mentioned in the video, I looked it up and it's for the 700 series so it should work on both models. Question, could you remove the grease shelf and the heat deflector and cook the steaks on the grill grate directly over the open fire box for that direct flame and higher temperature grilling? Will the juices/fat drippings from the steak burn off or cause issues with the fire box down the road? I did see the L6002E which does have the option for the direct flame broiling goes up to 750 degrees. Unfortunately, the L6002E doesn't come with the PID or the two meat probes and it's 100sq. in. less cooking space then the 700 series. I wish you could buy the flame plate in the L6002E and use it in the 700 series, this would make this model perfect.
Thanks for watching Robert! I wouldn’t recommend searing over the burn pot directly. The cast iron is truly the most simplistic way to go. The 700 series is a well built grill and extremely dependable! Combined with the sear plate, it can do everything.
Thanks for Watching Chad! Oh Man... allot has to be said about price... The Z grills is $400.00 cheaper but doesn’t have allot of the Woodwind features for $1000.00. If it were me.. I’d go with the Z grills, lot of room, a PID that’s spot on, huge hopper, pellet clean out and for an additional $50.00 you can get the griddle and be searing at 700 degrees! Plus it comes standard with a full length cover. It’s up to you Chad, but to me,,it’s the Z grill. Hope this helped
Thanks for Watching Jerry! It has PID, no real hot spots and smoke very nice for a pellet Grill. All that has been explained in the video’s on this grill. Thanks again for Watching!
Thanks for Watching! Need to vacuum, I have the woodwind with detachable cup and I still need to vacuum because the fan takes the ash outside of the burn pot. Good question, Thanks For asking
Thanks for Watching Joe! That’s a hard question to answer.... They both have there advantages and dis advantages. I would prefer to have both, however if forced to have one it would be the Gravity Series
Thanks for Watching Alan! I use the Fire Black off of Amazon. You are correct though the hardest part of using it is removing the backing. I usually will use a knife to peel up an edge
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ My wife was able to peel the backing off...a huge help indeed! I'm glad I put them on, it seals nicely. I am cooking 3 racks of pork ribs as I write this! Oh man do they smell good! It's 40 degrees out right now and I'm glad I have the insulating blanket. My Z Grills 700DE4 is maintaining the temps nicely!
Man Oh Man, 5 months later and it's $80 more. But then again, everything is going up in price. I suspect most of that increase is the "free" shipping. Trying to get freight delivery these days is difficult and expensive.
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Pulled the trigger on this grill today. After it was in my cart for a day, they sent a discount code for $20, which got it a little closer to the original price. The other grills I considered have WiFi capability, but there is no WiFi where I plan to use this, so that was a nonfactor. It came down to $/sq in of grill space and the others weren't even close to the 7002C2E. I gave your channel some plugs when asked why I bought the grill. I hope you get some credit for it. Thanks Tom.
Sorry tom but that is not the best pellet grill going. About 4-5 years ago i bought a sam's members mark pellet grill about this same size for 199.00. The grill today is i think 249.00. I grill year round and have never had o problems at all. A verry heavy duty grill, great paint job, no problem at all. So for a beginner or a seasoned griller u can not beat this grill RTR
Thanks for Watching Wayne! I also have a Sam’s club Menbers Mark like you,, Here’s one of the many videos.....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2NQNcMWIMXw.html It does well unfortunately it’s gone and not around any more..... the Z Grill PID performs much better! Thanks again for Watching!
