Tom, I can’t believe the timing! I’m a big fan of your channel and I’ve been considering the Akorn Jr. for a couple weeks. Really glad to get your opinion on this one. Thanks for another great video!
I have had one of these going on 6 years and I have used it so much that it’s rusting out inside from the heating and cooling. Yes I do keep it covered when not in use. Makes great smoked pork shoulder at 200 degrees. This is the best grill I have ever owned but it has a short lifespan.
Another great product review. I actually had put this grill on my wishlist, for this spring, I'm really glad you reviewed it and had a lot positive things to say about it. Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing.😎🇺🇸.
I bought a unit called tip top temp for my full size Kamado and once you get the temp set it maintains the temp perfectly but even without that the Acorn Kamado is a great cooker .
That's a nice little kamado and a reasonable price. So many different smoker/grills out there I'd like to try. I have a Weber kettle, pellet grill and propane grill. A friend came over and commented on all the grills in my garage. I didn't have the nerve to tell him I'm thinking about getting something else to add to the arsenal. And I foresee a new grill review coming, propane/pellet grill?
I have both the large Akorn & Jr for about 4 years now. They stand up well to the elements. If I could make a recommendation I would drill a hole in the large Akorn to keep water build up & rusting to a minimum. Other than that, very good alternative to the golf ball grill.
Second your comment on b&b.. It's not always available at Ace here in mn so I always stock up when I can. Shame Weber discontinued their briquettes, thought they were good.
I have the auto kamado, but am considering adding this to my arsenal. I see the grill grate has those round holes for a warming rack, but it doesn’t look like that’s an available accessory. Do you know where to get that?
Awesome video Tom! I have smoking with the big brother (Full Akorn) for about 10 years, but I might have to give Jr. a try. Question, what's in the box, it looks like a new grill?
this thing looks great, is the dome lid tall enough inside to do beer can chicken? what if you remove the grate and set it on the diffuser plate? (i smoke a lot of chicken this way)
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ thank you! I've got a big vintage Japanese kamado I can't use at the moment and I miss it... Backyard demolition going on so it's at the neighbors place for storage... I kinda want this little grill!
Sapphire Blue is the other color , I ordered one from Char Griller Akorn Jr . Took 30 days for them to ship it . I don't know why it took so long ? Maybe had to get it made in China and ship it to the United States and then ship it to me . 😂
I was very disappointed Tom, as you said welcome to the land of grills I said to my wife look at all the grills this guy has. Then you didn't show them off like you normally do. LOL otherwise great video
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Just teasing and. Slightly jealous. Wishing my BGE was more portable. Looked hard at these and realized my old school model had a lot of room for improvements.
