I just bought one of these kit stones , it is matching very good with the Surry stones u picked out.. it gives a buttery shave! I should have done this a long time ago... 😅 ❤
A solid video, Keith! You're too right about the time or laps it takes. I count my laps when I feel something interesting and I'm trying to probe how far I can take it. Recently I've developed a personal system where if I feel I can have a great shave off the linen before it even touches leather then it's done. Getting up to that, I set an arbitrary lap count and probe as I go. It takes forever, but I found a consistency in my technique to allow this. The quality of the stone, the steel, your hair, your touch, and the groundwork among other things all need to be taken into account. Much earlier this year, I thought an arbitrary reading of the feedback, lap count, and assumption that merely progressing on my synths was the right call and I paid for it in a lot of discomfort before reassessing my abilities and what I was paying attention to. I'm no honemeister, but my skills have appreciated greatly since I started noticing things I didn't before. I've also been commenting on your videos since what, 2021? I've had some time to learn. Rant over, thanks for the video.
That's exactly what it's all about. Doing it and figuring it out as you go. I prefer to always be a student and never a Honemeister, I keep learning, and never want to graduate. Happy Honing!
Many thanks, Keith for a video that explains how an undercut works. As always, your videos are invaluable for people who are practicing razor honing, they are always full of wisdom and skill. Now, I do understand the geometry of my razors better, learned how to read tactile feedback: the roughness of the edge, and how it's diminishing during the honing session. The understanding comes with practice ... and good info. Thank you!
Hi keith nice to see a new vid that's what Iove bout your vids straight to the point but that comes with years of honing and honing and learning as u go it sucks that guys ask you for a quick out cause they don't want to put the time in anyway look forward to the next one gratzie
