Ngl that scene was hilarious! Their thug asses true colors. But what pissed me off was his rant on anti-gay. Like bro wtf God made us that way it's not a choice. Growing up in a very religious latino household/family I heard the worst things ever about homosexuals where I prayed every night to make me like girls. God never made me Like girls and I tried for the longest time. Now I'm happy living my true life and consider myself agnostic and I couldn't be happier.

I feel like this movie opens the door and critiquing the black church. As someone who grew up in southern black baptist church, this movie hit me deep. The First Lady reminds me of my mother and my aunts , they are so religious and always try to be perfect and hide the ugly secrets of the family, Regina in white face , her miming and praise dancing, being the happy church lady that prays. Many religious black women put that on. Also the secret messages . Like the dress the First Lady wears at the end Is the same dress First Lady Gisselle from Real Housewives of P, she was married to a pastor that cheated on her with many people and embarrassed her, she still gets made fun of it till this day .

I get what you guys are saying about the lack of staff, the hat store not reflecting the exuberant costs but it appeared to me to be just a budget thing so I got past that. But mainly the acting did everything else. Regina Hall's expressions, filled in every gap. I felt her struggle throughout the whole movie. I thought it was hilarious, both of them really played their parts to a T

Like a Black mockumentary version of The Righteous Gemstones! That way they would’ve had a lot more time to flesh out the story & characters a bit more & could go a lot deeper into the themes & topics they touched on! There were too many moving parts and not enough layers. We've got mimes, documentation, exploited victims, a fake marriage, a narcissist...or two (who knows) and then these weird "followers" (what's their story?). Everything was a mile wide and an inch deep. Then it was cringy. Whether you're apart of the christian community, gay community, religious community or just enjoy satire-- it was just lost in my opinion. I felt confused and dirty at the end lol! And as you guys said, it wasn't lavish enough. It definitely needed a LOT more.

Mega Churches irk my nerves to no end. They make me feel uneasy, all if them. Maybe it's because of so many current social scandals. It comes off as scammers, all colors, all sexes and all creeds. Long, Gray, Olsteen Jakes, Hinn, Roberts, Copeland, Dollar. Sorry not sorry all of them. This movie did "poke the bear" on a subject that many will avoid acknowledging in right good many homes: women (many southern fried church ladies) stay with a closeted man (many) because the types are "good men". In school or growing up, they were the "kind boys,"" the good church boys", "smart boys," "obedient, "respectful boys," " the college-bound boys". Sterling and Regina's characters are about to trigger some "first ladies" for sure 🍿 😎. I wonder if it will get messy, lol. It is sad for many men and women who are miserable because of acceptability in "Christian" homes. Which most times looks like a commitment to well dressed internal suffering.

As far as the gay scandal, as someone who has witnessed it first hand in the church, unfortunately, a lot of pastors do not get "escorts", they usually prey on the young men in the church, exactly like it's shown in the movie. Also, they only showed him make an advance on the camera operator. The man that he spoke with while practicing his sermon outside was a different type of interaction. He didn't seem to be flirting with that guy. The Eddie Long situation was very similar, as he had relationships with the young men in the church. This was actually very accurate, silly as it may seem.

Yh I've heard a lot of abuse in black churches being covered up. It's been happening in white churches for years. I honestly think religion muddys peoples lives. Religion, has few good things like helping each other, and sticking with your partner. But most of it is scandalous behaviour by the "pastor" of the church. And a lot of people in churches ( the congregation), I notice, always make out they have perfect lives. Religion is crazy. Look at cults. All religions are cults, at least from the start. 🤷🏽‍♂️. And i notice there's always has to be a head of the church 🤔. Yh imma have my own relationship with God. Not go to a building twice a week to put on a fake family persona. Nah..... I have personally saw weird, unsettling, & frivolous behavior taking place at 2 different churches that I was a member of in my youth growing up, & because of that I do not go to church anymore, I pray, I read my Bible & I have my own personal relationship with Yahweh, but this movie nailed everything perfectly in a very unsettling way.

While I agree with some of the points you guys made, I don’t think you really have that great a grasp on what happened in the film. There are multiple scenes that show why Trinity feels the town had turned their back on her but you only mentioned one. Your take on the sex scene is interesting though, but I didn’t see it that way. To me it seemed more like It was to show that Lee-Curtis isn’t attracted to his wife anymore and that he cares about his desires more than hers. There’s a power dynamic that she goes along with because she doesn’t want to let go of what they had in the past. And her mom never said Lee-Curtis was a good man. The gist of it is that she was saying marriage is hard and that the two built something great together literally and metaphorically, something Trinity believes throughout the film. Her mother just reinforced her thoughts, leading to her breakdown at the end. I’m also surprised you guys didn’t talk about the cinematography and it’s juxtaposition between drama and comedy

The hypocrisy is something that I find annoying especially in real life because all sins are equal so why are they harping on that one? I think the answer might be typically people whom are religious would be able to know for sure that, that particular sin will be easy for them to avoid so they are not worried about that but the other sins they have a real problem with so they will steer clear of harping on those sins. When I was a religious kid that was my mentality because that was not a sin I would have a problem being tempted to partake in. But every so often I think Christians/religious people would harp on the gay sin as subterfuge and misdirection. Muslim preachers also have harped on homosexuality as a sin even though all sins are the same in the eyes of the lord and either harp on it because it is easy for them to avoid or because they want to divert attention away from them and in either case it is for selfish reasons. Just about all the major religions have an anti-gay stance and I think because it does one of two things: disgusts them or turns them on and they do not need temptation that will lead to damnation!

This movie was shot as a mockumentary except when it wasn’t. If you’re going to pick a genre, commit to it. Also, mockumentaries are supposed to be funny and this one rarely was. Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown gave amazing performances, but they deserved better than this. Also, Austin Crute and one amazing scene and that was it. I felt like his character would have had more of an impact had he actually been in it rather than merely mentioned a few times and then making his grand entrance and leaving. Give a talented guy more to do!

I didn’t really enjoy this review. Y’all went off topic too many times . Y’all not realizing that you’re over analyzing a SHORT FILM ! y’all talking about staff not being there … like what ? Y’all wanna see more cars and the whole estate ? How bout we talk about them not really showing more details of what the couple actually went thru … now that I what I wanted to get into .

I really only wanna see this cuz of the cute brown dude. This movie does give Tammy Faye vibes so if its anything like that I may like it.

I could only watch a half hour. I might go back and finish. It just seems like the movie was a lot of them recording this reality show and it staying in this superficial lane. It lacked a lot of depth. Obviously I'm no critic. Lol. But I'm a church girl. I get the over top, the hypocrisy and all of that so I wanted more. Lol. I am here for all of the shenanigans but they were taking too long to get to it Chile. Lol. This review helps so i may finish since you two gentleman are so good at making sense of most of it or at least trying 🤓

This should have been like the movie Popstar. I was hoping it would be. It needed a better writer, and they should have went full mockumentary and satire on organized religion. It was a good idea, poorly executed. Really disappointed.
