It would appear to me that this new Hornady Beam Scale is not as good as the old Pacific model, there is not as good adjustment range, and it all looks a bit "plasticy".Is the repeatability as good as the "old" model ?
I have this scale and sometimes it seems to have issues with centering itself, which leads to bad measurements. I'd love to see a follow-up if you were able to improve it.
coolgeekish you are right, I see the same, sometime up one grain, sometime lower. When i move the axis it get correct, but it left a doubt on the measurement... i am not sure i will keep it. Do you know if the rcbs does the same?
Great video and channel - fascinating stuff. So, two years on, would you still rate the Hornady as a choice beam scale (in this price bracket)? Or are there any others you would pick instead? Looking to upgrade from my Lee scale.
+Tim Smith ...The Hornady isn't a bad scale - a step up and easier to read and adjust than the Lee, but it's still a budget scale. Midway are selling these for $66, the other scale in this price range is the Lyman 500 but I don't like the plastic base.The new RCBS M500 is a replacement for the 502 which is no longer made, It's around $80 but works well and for an extra $10 you could get a Redding No2, another good scale.If were looking for a good scale at a reasonable price I would buy a good used one - better quality and half the price.
