I have 2 of these and a gateway so they are wifi enabled and while pretty pricey they are a very nice piece of hardware. However I do have a few suggestions in case anybody at hornbill sees this; • There should be a physical button with tactile feedback for locking. The screen doesn't offer much feedback while locking the door and the touch capability is significantly worse than a smartphone. A real physical button would give great feedback for locking • I would like to get notifications on the app when the door is locked and unlocked manually using the inside knob. My kid messes with the doors a lot and leaves them unlocked and I would like to have an easy way to know if he has been. They could also have it where you can turn off different types of notifications via the app • The lock doesn't update it's lock status when using the manual knob, it 100% should. For example, when you unlock the door you can view the status on the app and it will say it's unlocked. Then you come inside and turn the knob to lock it. But the app still says the door is unlocked. If the door is locked and you unlock it from the inside via the knob then check the app, it still says it's locked. Why. There's really no excuse for this oversight • Lastly, a small quality of life improvement, in the app you can lock/unlock, the picture should change to show an unlocked lock vs a locked lock. I am a software developer myself and I am 100% sure this was originally part of the design but this didn't work properly due to my previous bullet point; the lock status then was slightly hidden by moving it to a button press in the top corner
I bought this on Amazon for $100.00 installation was simple enough but when it came to programming a new password well that's when things took a turn. I called the # for tech support and got an Asian woman with a screaming baby in the background who insisted I need to download some app for a lock that isn't even a smart lock. After 3 long , tedious hours of feeling completely stupid I stumbled upon your video and within 30 seconds figured out my lock without downloading anything. Thank you.
Just installed one in polished brass, then saw this video:-) anyway it works great but if you want to connect it to your google home, then GH won't recognize the app that comes with it. Instead you have to set up google home with "Scienersmart" which it recognizes and then works with your voice like a charm. I LOVE everything about this lock except for its dodgy fingerprint reader. I don't know if its my weird fingerprints or that it simply has issues with it because 8 out of 10 tries it fails to recognize my prints (and yes I have programmed every finger and soon will be programming my toes too). Installation is easy in a straight up wooden door but if like me you are installing it on your front door which is most likely a "Steel laminated" solid or compressed wood, then you're gonna need special diamond tool bits to open the hole up to 2-1/8", unless you are lucky and the existing hole in your door is already large enough. The smartest looking smartlock I came across, after researching this segment for 2 weeks straight.
I have this exact same lock, and have had it for 49 days. On day 34 the lock began re-locking itself automatically even though the "auto lock" function was turned off. Each time I unlock the thing, after 10 seconds, it re-locks automatically. I opened the app (of course) and turned ON and OFF the auto lock function. It still locked automatically. I tried leaving the auto lock function turned ON and set the delay to 60 seconds. Still, it re-locks within 10 seconds no matter what. It keeps locking automatically whether or not I have auto lock ON or OFF, as I mentioned. I don't know what to do about it. I contacted the seller (through Amazon) but heard nothing back. There is a 30 day eligibilty return limit, and I'm at day 49. It began doing this on day 36. I spent 12 days trying to troubleshoot it because I was 6 days beyond the return/replace policy. So, now I'm stuck with a $153.00 lock (with the Hornbill gateway bridge that was needed with it) that doesn't work correctly. I have not attempted to reset the lock. I can, but I'm trying to avoid going through the long process of pairing, reinstalling all the information, re-setting the fingerprint function, pairing it with Alexa, the code setup, etc... If that's what I need to do, then so be it, I'll do it. Any thoughts about what might be going on with this lock, or what the troubleshooting recommendation is? Resetting it, I suppose. ??? Thanks!
The problem is the door needs to be pushed flush to adequately lock the door... Lock only goes halfway and is 'stuck'... I can not get it set up with Google home...
It's funny because it is literally the reason you would spend so much extra on a lock like this and he didn't show it. Other door locks that only use codes are significantly cheaper
I'm absoloutly blown away you would post such a terrible video... I have no doudt had the audio been good the information given would hasve been very good
