I have no real experiences with cows, even though I am a animal-girl. I love most animals, but has primary knowledge of horses and dogs. Started watching you because I had a thing for the "pimple-popping" effect in some of your videos with problem-hooves, and now I actually have found myself so curious and hungry about knowing all about keeping cows. Hi Hoof GP-- it may interest you to know that in some regions of medieval China transparent "glass" was made by bonding large shavings and curls of water buffalo hoof horn together and boiling it. It was used for translucent lampshades, lantern glass and jewelry. There's some really gorgeous pieces in my local museum. Have you ever thought of doing anything with the clippings?

How do you choose the material for the blocks? It depends on where the cow lives, in what weather and on what terrain?

I believe the major considerations include how long it takes to wear down, and the shape of it (some are wedge shaped).

Poor girl, she was very patient all that time. Technical question - why would you use a rubber vs a wooden block? Presumably the rubber ones are a bit more resilient to the environment. But you can trim and shape the wooden ones to get a precise finish to help the wound heal? Just interested in the choices made here. Great work as usual

I use to grind and repair concrete, and after doing it for so long, was knocking paint drops off new epoxy floors. You can see that same thing here where it's just an extension of your arm where someone with less experience being that aggressive could cause a problem.

I know the hoof itself has little feeling like our nails, but what about the lesions on the side when the blood starts seeping out. Isn't there a topical anesthetic you can spray on? The cow does seem ok.

I enjoy seeing your work and knowing how many cows (and their people) that you're helping. However, it makes me worry about how many cows experience hoof problems. Could you give an estimate how many cows develop a significant problem like the one you showed today? 1%, 10%, 25%? I would guess many people would be interested to know. I watch a lot of your videos, but not all, so maybe you've mentioned this already. Thanks!
