I'm 78 & come from the town that Jack Cassidy was born & lived in, as a youth,i.e. Richmond Hill, NYC, (brother still lives there), but didn't know him! My father always considered Jack to be one of, if not the handsomest man on t.v.& my family loved his role on the shortlived, 1967 sit-com "He & She"! He & his past wife ,Shirley Jones & two sons, David & Shaun, brought countless hours of great entertainment to America! R.I.P.!
He was a flaming homosexual according to his own wife. He slept with cole porter and worked part time for the cia in covert operations. He knew all the connections between Oswald and cia black operations
@@opticscolossalandepicvideo4879he was actually bi but who really cares about that, was he really working as an operative for the government, do you think that may be why he burnt up in that mysterious fire tragically?
I was fortunate to see him in several Broadway shows. He had a presence onstage that was rarely matched. (Perhaps only by Preston) . He always gave a focused and strong performance that gave you the most entertainment possible.
He was murdered. That’s a classic cia black operations hit job. Murdered under very suspicious and mysterious circumstances. His middle son knows the hit job came from Langley Virginia
I really didn't know that he smoked at the time but way too young to die. This year will mark 48 years since he passed away. His two sons David and Shaun Cassidy both were famous in the late 70s because I have Shaun Cassidy s first two record albums. In my collection of record album s on my shelf.
Thanks again Steve for your content. Im willing to bet many young people would have no clue ice delivery was a thing, my father used to tell many stories of his ice delivery days and having to carry blocks of ice up stairs with buildings without elevators. His son David had a hard relationship with him no doubt affected by his alcoholism and poor mental health. This was an indeed sad one and only 49. What a horrible death
Nice job! I always enjoyed seeing him pop up in various programs, he was a unique talent. Too bad his drinking and insecurities made his relationship with son David so difficult...
I remember him from "He and She". I can see how he would have been good playing the 'Ted Baxter' role in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". He was also good in "The Andersonville Trial."
You probably purposely left out the fact that in 1974 Jack Cassidy was in the TV movie “the Phantom of Hollywood“ in which he plays the mysterious (& murderous) masked Phantom, who is horribly scarred from a fire.
The Eiger sanction was an awesome movie, one of Clint Eastwood's best. I didn't know this guy died falling asleep with a lit cigarette. What a tragedy. I've seen him on TV in a million things and I didn't know about Shawn being his son or Shirley being his wife. I'm pretty sure that Shirley Jones is still alive. Interesting video as usual my man thanks. I truly enjoy all the info you provide about all these Hollywood people. I'm pretty sure that the lovely Shirley Jones is still alive.
I seem to remember that this became a focus of material used in furniture and standards for flammable material were upgraded. this was about the time that Federal OSHA Regulations really got going as well. Awareness. i.e. tempered glass for patio doors (Aretha Franklin was scarred for life going through her pane window door, which was NOT tempered, about the same era.
Being an entertainer is no walk in the park. The days are long when shooting a movie or TV show. Then there is a time when you have to wait for a good role that may be to your liking.
Supposedly, that night, Jack called Shirley (whom I believe remained friends with Jack) and wanted to get together, but she declined. I've often wondered about the guilt she felt over this. Had she not declined he might have lived a much longer life.
It is horrible what happened to him. But you never fall asleep with a cugarette in your hand. Again cigarettes kill. This is saddening. A horrible death. Rip jc
Not to be disrespectful and sick. But how do you cremate remains that are already technically cremated? He was so hot in the Columbo episodes. That's so young. How sad 😭
Jack Cassidy always gave me the creeps. He was a fine character actor, but he was so over-the-top smarmy, and villainous, that I could never say I liked him. A hard way to go out, no doubt. Always Loved Shirley Jones, though.
Hard to believe how jealous he was of David and Shirley, mostly David, when he himself had a great career. Maybe he didn't get as far as David, financially or in popularity, but still had a career he should have been proud of. But, bring mentally ill may have had something to do with it. When David passed away, Shirley said she was comforted knowing that he was now with his dad
My high school buddy, Fred, when his mother died as a result of his parents being alcoholics, when his drunk mother fell asleep with a lit cigarette, which she dropped on her lounge chair, and then went to bed. Damn near burnt the whole house to the ground. Fred escaped without injury. His father escaped with second degree burns. His mother died three days later in the Ann Arbor, Michigan critical burn hospital.
I had never heard of Jack Cassady previously. Thanks for informing me :) By the way, I'd like to suggest a video: "Don't Colorize Citizen Kane - The Life & Sad Ending of Orson Welles"
Now adays cigarettes go out if you dont smoke on them or the hot cigarrete falls on something cooler but back than no.I always put the cig out before I laid down
The smoking charred corpse was found in the doorway. Not smoking a cigarette. The cigarette he had been smoking had set the fire on the leatherette sofa he was on before.
Ironically Jack asked his ex wife Shirley Jones to join him for drinks on the very day he died. Jones declined the offer, and it was suggested had Jones accepted the invitation, Cassidy would have never fell asleep with a cigarette in his hand. Typical magazine predictions for those days!
Jack got "wasted", passed out with a lit cigarette and burned himself to death - my rat-fink "father" did the same thing, but he woke up before he killed himself...
Jack Cassidy was married to actress Shirley Jones. He was a villain in Columbo. Saw him in a movie about the Andersonville Trial. Jack was a heavy smoker and loved to drink hard liquor as well. He frequented hangouts such La Scala, Mateo's, and La Familia.
