New subscriber. I’ve been doing groundwork lessons for about a month and You just made everything crystal clear to me in this video. It was like a lightbulb turned on over my head. Thank you!

I enjoyed your thorough explanation of how to do this and communicate with the horse. My 2 year old charged at me today on the lunge and I reckon I could probably prevent it from happening again by being aware of communicating with him better.

It's usually us missing a step lol. I'd love to know what you really think. If people would just video tape themselves and compare it to someone doing it right, they could probably save themselves a lot of frustration. Lunging isn't easy. Happy for the horse that has the opportunity to have access to a human that asks for help and happy it got good help for its human from a competent horsewoman.

Yep. It wasn't a horse problem. It was a people problem, like so often is the case.

Horses that charge is so dangerous,very informative video. I have had the experience of a few chargers, you definitely need confidence, great video.Do you think horses can be dishonest?Not show you a sign before charging.

Hello I'm new to your channel and I really love the you work so I have a question about my mare. She does pretty good especially when shes going right, but one thing is I can't get her to go left. I'll stop her, point with the lead rope, and put pressure behind the drive line and she will start to go but then all of a sudden she just turns an runs into wanting to go the other way. I just can't seem to get her to go that way even if I do it the same way I do to get her to go right. Please if you see this can you give me some tips because at times it gets really dangerous to where she will run in to me and i just have her go one way. She is supper good on other things just don't know why she won't get left🤔

Hey People, communication for horses must be clear, good leaders are good at communication.
@gerrycoleman7290
@gerrycoleman7290 2 года назад
Yes, it must be clear, in the horse's 'language'.

The other thing I noticed was "draw" vs "retreat". The trainer lady only stepped backwards when she was wanting to draw the horse towards her, and her posture was still confident. The owner of the Pinto horse would step back more in retreat and with a more crumpled posture, which would almost encourage a horse to come at you. (Not that anyone should stay in the path of a charging horse though!) I see people doing this with their horses all the time. And I'm sure I still do it sometimes too. 🤷

Hmm I have a mare that I'm trying to "fix" that charges me in the round pen without a lunge line. When I try to put her on a line she yanks it right out of my hands..I sure wish I could find a local trainer that would come help me, all the trainers I've found in my area just have clients leave their horses with them for a month.

I lunge my horse in a roundpen without the rope and without the whip. I usually only hold a small whip behind my back if she charges at me. Sometimes she is perfect and sometimes she charges at me with her ears back. But I do the same method all the time. For starters, she actually chooses in which way she will go, I let her choose. And when she goes I always stand in her back legs area (in the middle of the roundpen but 'behind' her if you understand what I mean). And I use voice cues only. Sometimes I extend one arm so she goes more to the side but overall I use my voice. And I say go, she goes, I click with my mouth and say trot and she goes. I whistle and she slows down or stop. But she started charging at me agressively :(

Too much slack in the leadline, he's confused for a few moments, so he attacks?
@CoastRanchCompany
@CoastRanchCompany 2 года назад
He isn’t really attacking. He isn’t getting clear direction, so he is guessing and then reacting to the (what he thinks) is sudden and dramatic reaction to him by the person giving direction. He has zero directional input so he is coming in and then told “get away!” - short version. :)

Even though you are instructing us, try not to give false signals unnecessarily to the horses you are working with. At the end of the video you actually clicked him forward with your voice and the flag just suggested the direction to move. You need very little pressure if the flag is in the right position, along with your lead line arm outstretched.

Maybe don’t whip the horse?? If you can’t control your horse without a whip, you shouldn’t work with horses
