Horse Trailer Won't Raise

This customer has been fighting this issue with her hydraulic landing gear on the front of her horse trailer for a long time. I hope that I figured out the root problem. Now to see if the hyd. cylinder can be rebuilt or does it have to be replaced?

Yes as a Heavy Duty Mechanic for 41 years I have a complete set of hydraulic gauges & fittings on my Service Truck . Cat make nice gauges that would go good with your Cat wire strippers . 😉 Great video as always 👍👍🇨🇦✌️🇨🇦✌️🔧🔧

Hydraulic pumps are fun, this one may have been a lemon 🍋 from the get go . Could be the shaft is bent . Good luck .

The friend shot the parts cannon on their dime! I use crushed up gypsum for oil spills. I just hammered some old drywall. I had an oil stain for 10+ years. Poured some gasoline on it, rubbed it a little, put on the gypsum, swept it up the next day. Completely gone.

I understand the thought process behind thinking the cylinder might be bypassing internally. Would the landing gear leak down when it did work? I wonder if the cylinder is bent, causing it to move excessively hard. But I guess we will find out the answer when the hydraulic shop gets it apart. I’m surprised you didn’t remove the snap ring and pull it apart yourself, what’s another gallon of oil on the floor??? Thanks for the Videos Kenny. Yes, I have all types of pressure gauges depending on what type of system I’m working on, from inches of water column to thousands of psi.

Kenny check to see if they are under warranty as BigFoot Hydraulic cylinders have a lifetime warranty as long as they turned in their registration card. Also, ours will squeal if we don't keep the cylinder dry lubed. Not sure with that outside tube how you would ever get to it to do that. We have had two replaced on our RV and both had the spring ring coming out like this one does.

That's interesting. The guy at Bigfoot never said it might be under warranty. No way to lube it. It is completely enclosed in the leg.

@@hillbillyrv I can find on the website that says their leveling system cylinders are lifetime, but I can't find anything on the landing gear cylinder warranty.

2014 Tiffen Phaeton. When retracting the patio awning, it will come in a foot then stop. Release switch then press again, it’ll come in another foot, ect… where do I start to find the problem? Thank You

Test to see if you are losing power. If so figure out where. If not. Might be a bad awning motor.
