The entire time Julia was dragging that financial literacy book, I was nodding along thinking about a terrible financial literacy book a relative had sent me. @@ShadowJCreed I'm not a fan of the Laurence fight at all because it forces you to unlearn what the rest of the game teachs you and just fight it cautiously and bait it into punishable attacks like you would a Dark Souls boss. It's no way near as bad as the Demon of Hatred in Sekiro for this but it's still pretty tedious.

As a writer, the bit about Olive getting her zest for life back after she survives a toddler is SUCH good phrasing and I love it! Also very smart to not share where you are going until after you get back. That's a good idea for anyone, really, who wants to preserve their privacy in the age of social media... (And also I now know that I apparently do not know as much as I thought I did about the NYC boroughs and their income distribution changes over time)
@1:27:36 this concept has helped me with music so much! Often I make songs, and never share them, because I thought "this is trash, nobody would listen to this." Then I sent a copy to one of my coworkers, and they liked it so much they started to share it with his friends, and wanted to know when I'm going to make more songs. Long story short, make stuff. Equally important, after you make the thing share it, it'll make you better at making your thing. Also, people might actually really dig it as much as you do, but you'll never know unless you make/share it!
I totally agree, *if* you don't share because you're afraid people won't like your stuff. It's also super valid not to *want* to share something because it's just for you! (I mean specifically that if you feel like "I don't want to share this really,", then don't push that too hard, that's not healthy.)

Your spouse’s siblings’ partners are technically co-in-laws/ co-sister or brother if you want to specify the relationship, but you can just refer to them as in-laws. If you say “our in-law“ it implies that they are an in-law to both you and your partner so they would have to be a siblings partner.

Quick lore drop for the comment section. The Living Failures are actually failed attempts to create the little alien guys, the Celestial Emissaries. If you look closely they have the same bodies, and the Living Failures have a collapsed souffle head of the Emissaries. The arena that you fight the Emissaries in is actually like two floors away from the Living Failures arena. Notably there are two Grand Cathedrals in the Nightmare, and the second one leads to the research hall which corresponds to the location where the Ebrietas elevator is in the regular world. Finally, fans believe that the white clad hunter in church garb in the second Grand Cathedral is Vicar Amelia, because she is saying the same prayer as Amelia in front of the same altar when we arrive.
Living failures mess me up so much because you just get in the swing of things and one of'em always sneaks up on ya and just punchwalks through you and kills you immediately and it puts me on tilt SO fast

The failures do take too long. Its like, its not an interesting fight as soon as you figure out that you just run in circles, take a pot shot and run in circles again. Its just such a stark contrast to literally the next room from them being one of the coolest fights in the entire series.
I too only see the vague impressions of bosses when gaming. It isn't until I've beaten them many times and they've become like an old worn garment that I begin to see them for who they are

Removed is for generations of cousins. If your cousin has a baby, you and that baby are cousins once removed. If that baby grows up and has a baby, you and baby² are cousins twice removed.
I always assumed that would be niece/nephew/nonbinary sibling child, nth removed, and that plain "once removed" were only for those on the same level in the geneological tree - the child of my aunt's cousin, rather than one of a "generation" below or above. I've actually never heard anyone refer to the child of your sibling/cousin etc to be described in such a way. The second baby would to me be the grand child of my cousin. Whereas a cousin twice removed would be someone who shares a great, great grand parent with me. Then again I've also heard people mean that "cousin once removed" means simply cousin.

I personally don't use them, if a conversation require I actually talk about my relation to someone who I'm distantly related to beyond "distantly related", I might as well avoid the confusion and just explain which grandparent we share, or share with my/their parent.
I've recently gotten really into SSS and I'd like to say y'all help me a lot! Other than the obvious great vibes, just seeing y'all fuck around and laugh it off when things go wrong has been really nice! I struggle with my brain equating mistakes with failure, and I've even had a hard time playing video games bc of that. I would just give up and decide i'm bad at games. In the last few years i've been trying again with video games and using them as a place to make mistakes and try again and it's been lovely! And SSS really reminds me to not put too much pressure on it. It's ok to play like a squirrel or to keep trying all the different weapons and moves until you find one that works best for you. It's all abt having fun and not putting too much pressure on yourself :D

I feel like it stems from that it's a surprisingly common way to view alternate perspectives. So many people don't comprehend the natural paradoxicality of human perception and existence that they assume that things that do not fall in line with their own perspective must somehow be wrong. Worst is, they are already in possession of everything they need to comprehend it, as no person has ever existed without internal conflict and varying internal perspectives.
I've loved watching Faze Jev and Julia play this game at the same time. And he has the best quote during Ludwig. "Why is there so much screaming? SHUT THE F* UP!" and it's all I hear now lol

Its a really great game, definitely one of my favorite games, if not my #1. Genuinely so rich in lore, atmosphere, combat, and just generally fun mechanics. :)
I love that there's at least one point in every one of these streams where Jacob is like, "you know... you could just run past these guys" and Julia is somehow, genuinely, legitimately surprised as if this is not well trod information. eta: constantly amazed not only by how many bands Jacob knows, but how many he remembers the names of well enough to talk about

No shade on Julia for not engaging with the levelling mechanisms of a game, I haven't played DD so maybe it doesn't put it very much in evidence for the players that are not interested in stats. I remember playing a RPG on Dreamcast back in the days, I think it was Grandia 2, where the menu was graphically split between in 2 vertically and I finished maybe 60% of the game before noticing there were 5 menus in there that I had NEVER accessed. In there was the option to LEVEL UP YOUR SKILLS and I had not done that for any of the attacks of my characters, and had cumulated so much points that I was able to level up most of my skills to the max level right away. The end of the game was a complete joke.

You Guys share kid stories, so here is one from me. I opened RU-vid so my 4 year old could see the new EC X BabyMetal video and the thumbnail for this episode was the first thing on my updates. when talking to Ludwig's head he uses the phrase "the stench of blood and beasts" which is exactly the same phrase used when the player first meets Ariana. it's a great little line, and I wonder if there's a reason why both of these characters say it or if it's just something that happened when writing the game
Sure you can call Julia not looking at the boss ridiculous, but if it's gotten her through all the bosses better than most people, then it's probably somehow the best way to play a soulsborne

Jacob! You should check out Harakiri For The Sky! They're post-rock/dsbm. But less depressive black metal and more post-rock. Their vocals are the only thing that's dsbm about them really. Their sound is amazing.

That book sounds like some of Dave Ramsey's dribble. He has some good advice and info, but he is so judgmental and reliant on percentages that don't exist for savings anymore.
