Horsing Around

The People's Court

The plaintiff says she sold her horse to the defendant, who only kept the horse for three weeks and demanded to return the animal. She’s suing for the balance she’s owed. The defendant says the horse was lame, and she’s been taking care of it. She’s countersuing for vet bills, boarding fees, and a return of her deposit.

The defendant is a good person to step up like she did for the horse. You can tell she’s a very humane individual and probably runs a very good business with her horses. The plaintiff was a complete scammer from the start.

I agree with you for the most part, and the defendant had the horses best interest in mind, unlike the plaintiff, but my issue with the defendant is she tried to put it off on the plaintiff that the horse supposedly wasn't sound and bucked off a child who was taking a lesson...really? Why the hell would you use a horse that is brand new to you, you don't know it's temperament (obviously) and you put a child on it?! Either that or she made up the story for court, either way, that's shitty on her part. Even if the plaintiff gave her a BS story and said the horse was bomb proof, the defendant even said from day one that the horse wasn't sound and they were watching her to "get better".... that is not a horse you put anyone on but yourself or a trainer, NOT a child or someone taking a lesson. Absolutely irresponsible.

We used to get horses at the Vet College all the time that had Navicular disease (a permanent bone disease in the hoof) that were treated with Bute (a pain killer). When the bute wore off a couple of days later, the horse would be dreadfully lame...forever. (unless the horse was put back on bute) You can't jump them or ride them very much if they have navicular. If pulling the shoes off made the horse sore, they did a TERRIBLE job of pulling off the shoes......pulling the shoes does NOT make them sore.
@JamieM470
@JamieM470 Год назад
That's what I was wondering about. I don't know much about horses, but removing his shoes made his feet that sore? I'm wondering if they had an actual professional do it, or just yanked them out themselves, because the plaintiff didn't have anything from a farrier. A real farrier would have known exactly what was going on with his feet.
@kittyfan

She bought a horse without seeing it first and without getting the vet to see it first (huge nono when buying a horse), and apparently didn't ride it enough to determine how sound he was before sticking it in as a lesson horse? Just going off of the seller's word that it was beginner friendly? And if I were a farrier I’d want to see the shoes and how they were on to begin with and go from there, not just tacked back on. They’re both stupid. IMO. Poor horse. 8:42 HORSE, definitely horses are more expensive the boats. Feed alone is OUTRAGEOUS. We have 15 (maybe 17 horses now) & my parents spend close to $45k a year on hay alone, not including oats, supplements & other forms of feed. Last year it was close to $60k all together on feed alone. Then shoes every 2-4 weeks for the 4-5 horses that are on the rodeo trail is $120-$150 each. Then warnings done every 6-8 weeks is about $20-$30 (depending on if they buy in bulk or not) each for ALL the horses. That’s just the absolute bare basics. No including tack & diesel spent every weekend traveling across the NW (& California) US & Canada. It’s EXTREMELY expensive.

I am so glad the plaintiff decided not to go and pick up “Awesome”, because she obviously did not care about his well-being, she just wanted to get rid of him. Hopefully now, he will receive the care and attention that he needs.

How is a dollar amount "sufficient time"? That makes no sense.

Was there a diagnosis mentioned?
@kittyfan
@kittyfan Год назад
@@cypherknot not technically, but when they say foot and lameness you tend to think Navicular disease, unless there's an obvious cut or abscess. Navicular is a kind of permanent arthritis of the bone in the hoof...it's incurable, but you can make the horse more comfortable....you certainly can't ride the horse at speed or jump it. At the Vet College we used to see loads of horses that had been given a lot of Bute (Butazolidone...a painkiller that i simply cannot spell) to look good, and who go dead lame in a couple of days when the horse has been sold and the Bute has worn off. When they're seeing lameness at the plaintiff's (the shoe story....removing shoes does NOT make the horse "sore" unless the owner oaf has ripped the things off herself) and the horse hasn't gotten well after weeks and weeks if not months, AND they said it was a foot problem, Navicular is the most likely diagnosis. If it was Laminitis (founder) the horse would hardly ever be standing, never mind being walked around. Abscesses and cuts are pretty obvious. All the best to you! ps i 'm a retired veterinarian.

Wrong!! I've had both, a boat is much more expensive and trouble, than a horse. You have to devote time and care to a horse and he will be good. A horse's health is directly in proportion to the amount of good, quality time you give him, or her. I'm a horse owner for several decades; they're the most awesome animal ever❤😊😅
