Hands down the best story of Horus and the Emperor while he was loyal, maybe even the best one of the Emperor with any of his sons. This was what he wanted - to be able to go into battle alongside the closest thing he could have to a peer, as a warrior and his beloved son. This is the Emperor as a warlord and a ruler, but also as a compassionate man aware of the price it would take to save Humanity - something he never flinched from paying himself. I think if you wanted to convince a populace to join the Imperium, this is the face of the Emperor to show them. Well, that, or just send them an Angel.
I know I can’t keep getting excited for 30k because I will have to eventually hear you read about the death of sanguineous and know I have to buy yet another great book
Lets be honest, some poor sod has to write that event and another poor sod has to read it for the audio book. Can you imagine being under THAT MUCH PRESSURE, to do something right
Can please read the passage in Fear to Tread when Horus and Sanguinius talk after Horus is elevated to Warmaster? That would be an awesome read for Horus week.
You have to be kinda pissed at chaos space marines, for their veterans all at least seen and sometimes even fought among the emperor himself, while no living space marine now probably even knows what the emprah looks like. Not to mention what he sounds like, fights like.
@@michaelhunt3332 No Dante is not even 2000 years old. Only a few space marines inside dreadnaughts were alive. I think Rho mentioned one of the oldest recently, the one with the Claw in his name.
@@mcmarkmarkson7115 you're right sir! And I'm not sure if you could count those entombed in dreadnought armor, can you? If that's the case then it just leaves Papa Smurf.
Love these examples of interaction between The Emperor and his Primarchs but I still really want some stories concerning The Emperor in the ancient times. From old Earth and The Rise of Humanity to the Dark Age of Technology and Old Night. A history from The Emperor's perspective. That would be a must read.
As much as that would be interesting, I think it would be better if that didn’t happen. The Emperor is an Enigma, a Godlike being from time in memoriam. His true origins are known to him and him alone. That I think is part of the appeal of the Emperor, and breaking that mystery I think would limit the character.
Would love to see the discussion on the worth of life between primarchs especially Vulkan talking to Horus would love to see the ways they tip toe around each other as Vulkan tries to convince that ordinary human lives are worth more than that of the astartes
I think the orks would've loved the coming battle, seeing the golden speartip would have attracted every ork warrior for miles and all the biggest and greatest of them too. What a battle it would have been
I love these snippets. It's a great window into the kind of world the imperium was and could be. You really get a sense of how far humanity has fallen and how twisted it's become. And as we see the primarchs return, glimmers of the old humanity are starting to shine through again. Great stuff.
Look up a.demidov on Instagram. He makes custom statues and paints them. Hes done a bunch of primarchs, titans, and best of all the emperor. Super epic stuff.
Horus had a gangster mentality from being from a hive world and coming to prominence as a hive gang member and ruler. He always secretly wanted to be the boss. That was his "flaw" and pathway to Chaos
I would really love a series later thats about Horus growing up on His planet and ending with him meeting the Emperor for the first time Not just one book but a small series perhaps
Horus might have stayed loyal under different circumstances, but other Primarchs, like Angron were doomed to fall at some point after he insisted on keeping the nails
You are doing the Emperor's work my friend. Like you said, we so often are shown this cold uncaring side to the Emperor. But I love these insights of his humanity and dreams and concerns.
This is one of my absolute favorite short stories in The Horus Heresy series, so happy you are covering it! You always say, that we need more Great Crusade era stories, and this a fantastic one.
So glad this "scene" exists. Kinda backs up my other comment on the other video about him simply forgetting how to "care" after being on the throne for 10000 years.
@@tunguskalumberjack9987 knowing how they tend to call anything the Emperor owns "the Emperor's (insert item here)" It's probably called the Emperor's Flagship, or Ship
Joseph Stalin Oh- “Bucephalus”- that wasn’t what the original comment said- it said “Bulchepest”. I’m familiar with the name Bucephalus - and I seem to remember hearing that a long way back, being his ship’s name. Bucephalus makes sense, as that was also the name of Alexander the Great’s Warhorse. Thanks!
New guy here. Fantastic story that I missed somewhere down the line. I’m all lore and no miniatures. Been reading this since around 05 when I picked up the Soul Drinkers Omnibus. Love you RU-vid lore guys. Had to add you to the collection
Always Great to see an Emperor Video Rho! Keep up the Great Work! Also, I've now Reached over 7,000pts in Custodes! Just waiting on Horus Heresy to Make An Emperor Model so I can Really have a Full Emperors Talon! (Slowly Building up my Sisters of Silence, only got 600pts of em so far)
I'm gonna keep it real with you chief... I just started 40k and at this point am torn at a starting army just on the lore.. but Big E didnt give a crap about some of his sons dying. Didnt hear anything about his sadness for Farrus, and the only thing I heard about Magnus was that he (Magnus) felt the punishment or blade of Russ; like what kinda "human" feels that way towards a son, fallen or not.. Honestly wish there were models of the Custodes from the TTS, legit roll in any tournament with the YA YA YA YA theme blasting
Tod Sike well, that’s the thing- those are human emotions you’re talking about, and The Emperor and the Primarchs are not human. They may look human, except for how huge they are, but they are very definitely NOT human.
I feel like Horus's attitude about doing anything to win is taken from the aspect of The Emperor in his youth. During the union of Terra did the emperor not have the same outlook willing to do absolutely everything in order to achieve his goals. I think it a real shame that Horus fell as he was The Emperors true heir someone who could have truly followed in his footsteps.
I think The Khan would be an interesting addition to that value of life conversation, in The Lost and The Damned, Sanguinius, Dorn, and Jaghatai are talking about the implications of leaving the civilians in the outer works to fend for themselves. Jaghatai while pragmatic, understands the Emperors vision for mankind fully, maybe he doesn't hold the same viewpoint but he still holds almost as much love as Vulkan does for man. On a side note, as I start reading more and more books the urge to start collecting models increases. The lore is so much more than memes and shitposting on 1d4chan and I love it (although I do love 1d4chan). Does anyone have any audio books to recommend? So far I've read The Lost and The Damned, Scars, and The First Heretic. (First Heretic was fucking amazing, I always saw Lorgar getting shit on for being a loser and #BlameErebus, but I've never seen such a beautifully and sad written character before. Someone who only ever wanted his father's approval and love and would spread the word of him with love and compassion far and wide. Instead, is scorned and rebuked by that same father and his greatest achievement burned in front of him. The book honestly made me sad and that's saying something)
I haven't read many either but, Horus Rising is a very good one, it kicks off the whole HH series and gives an interesting view of Horus and the Luna Wolves, especially his Mournival.
“Betrayer” is excellent, and shows more of Lorgar after he’s gained some power, with excellent interweaving stories of Khârn, Angron, Argel Tal- and all of them together. I also really enjoyed “Mechanicum”- guess who THAT one’s about? And if you wanna some Raven Guard being raven-y, and the Alpha Legion doing what they do, “Deliverance Lost” is a really great book, too. Honestly, the HH novel series has so many excellent books, it would be easier to just tell you the ones that I didn’t like. I hope this short list is of help to you-
This is why the emperor is the greatest of all of humanity . He shows us what it means to be human and that we have the birth right to the stars and nothing can stop us. FOR THE EMPEROR
I think the emperor regrets giving some primarchs his flaws, for instance, he needed Angron to be well, angry, but he didn't WANT to put that constant pain and anger upon him, and I think that's why he is also distant to some primarchs, how could you love your flaws?
the excitment you bring when reading these stories makes me actually think you invite jehovah's witnesses in to your home and try to convert them to the light of the Emperor while also warning and informing them of the 4 heritical gods of chaos
I think the Chaos Gods decided when they scattered the Primarchs who would fall into their clutches and who they didn't care about. Yeah, it would have been great for the four if they had gotten all the Primarchs to fall to Chaos, and they do try to tempt the loyalists (Sanguinius comes to mind), but I don't think they could have gotten them all for a variety of reasons with at least one being the power of plot. They twisted the personalities of those that they would corrupt (Horus, Fulgrim, Lorgar), sent them to worlds that would forever mar them (Mortarion, Angron, Konrad Curze), and used countless manipulations to concoct their downfall (Magnus, Perturabo). They were doomed, Horus most of all. The greatest parts of Horus become the worst, that's evident whenever we see his loyalist personage. My two cents, anyways.
A little criticism, if I may. You always tell us to go read the story first, then come back here. The thing is, if I went and read the story, then I do not have any reason to be here. You read the excerpts and make some comments on it like, "And you just know it's about to go down. How could you not follow this guy into battle?" It's commentary that we generally think about, for ourselves. If anything, coming here, before even reading the story is best, because it gives us a sneak peak into the story and possibly gets us hyped to go read the book. Just my two cents. As for other videos like, "WHICH PRIMARCH WOULD GUILLIMAN CHOOSE TO RETURN?" are topics on their own. They are entertaining enough, because we, us and you, can see how we look at Guilliman and compare how we believe he thinks.
I understand your point of view, I just like to recommend people read the stories for themselves as well. Whichever order they do it, or even if they don’t it’s up to them :)
Fuuuuucking Horus!!!! Horus=heresy 🐺 wolf 🐺 Lord Rho= Horus....soooo wolf Lord Rho= heresy..... Inquisitor Inquisitor, come quick there's Heresy a-brewin'!!!!!
I still love the idea of Sanguinius being the one who killed Horus, using the black rage and the Emperor being mortally wounded while trying to bring him out of it. The idea of emps hesitating to kill Horus makes less sense to me because he had already made up his mind killing Horus was necessary but would not be prepared to euthanize his actually loyal son so fast.
Horus week? What are the odds... I just started re-reading the first book of the Horus Heresy after many years. Back then i knew nothing of the lore so i discover a lot of new things. Like Dorn making a small joke.
so... does the emperor being made of so many different souls start to lose track of his own actions. the line "I said that?" seems so disarmed and vulnerable coming from the emperor this immortal, nearly god-like genius super being, and yet he is able to be cold and ruthless while having vulnerable moments like this. its interesting, either he has so many egos and personalities in him he might not keep track of them all, or he is simply complex, not because he is a god, but because he is a human trying to be greater than a god. can he be an asshole and caring and conflicted at the same time?
