Hotels and restaurants are, generally speaking, very cavalier about the turnover of employees. They don’t care about their workers, only making lots of money from a very tight profit margin. I spent a decade as a cook, and I didn’t realize how terrible it was until I got a job outside of it.

Currently, 2/5 grade teachers just walked out, vacant plant operation positions with more looking for other jobs, bilingual assistants, ESE assistants and other positions posted since beginning of year. Ok. So, I'm one of those who walked. I've had quite a career working for 2 Michelin chefs plus 2 celebrities. I love the industry and even went to school for it. The drive, the passion, the long hours... all of it. It's just as insane as Bourdain warned you about. But for some reason, we still love it. Well, that was until I returned to my old job last Spring when things began opening. Same Michelin chef, but a VERY different work place. The limited staff, and long hours aside, the crew just wasn't the same as pre-pandemic. I couldn't say where the new hires came from, but it was obvious that the business was desperate. I saw two people lose fingers because of no experience on top of all manner of SERIOUS health code violations. (In the middle of a pandemic??). I just didn't want to be around such people. Ultimately, its upper management really not caring. So... why should I work like a maniac in holding up standards that don't apply anymore? It was sad. And their loss as well.

I don't think it's clear enough that workers are quitting *for different jobs*. It's not as if people decided they're cool with not working anymore. Unemployment rates for the whole economy are already lower than pre-pandemic (at around 4%, which is indeed very low). The unfilled vacancies are in sectors paying the lowest wages (obviously), where workers only stay when better options are not available.

Wow. I am just. Stunned. So... do you think that work is just suddenly not going to happen under socialism? Or "given a silver platter" Or that society is just going to collapse? Well. Let's take a look. Considering that we'd be moving away from a system that only cares about money. Not only would it mean we would be more in touch with our peers, but also the actually needed resources required to sustain. Which means instead of wasting 40% of food. Which is expensive resources wise since only like 5% of the earth has drinkable fresh water without trying to use energy to convert it. We'd be possibly only wasting 10-20%. And possible reductions from there. And also because we're not solo focused on a job to just *exist* it also means that there would be less meaningless jobs. As 40% of jobs right now, feel meaningless to workers. Probably as a result of the direct knowledge that robots could do them. Which means that they could focus on being productive in new ways... like art. Or doing videos. Or just contributing to society instrinsicially instead of extrensicially. Now if it was me. I'd rather go straight to anarcho communism. Since (the issue with UBI) is resolved. Capitalism itself, is a hierarchy. There will never be a balance. Things will always be skewed to the employer because money is power. And with power you can change the rules whenever. Which also means corrupting any democratic process we have left. 80% of the time, our votes on a bill do not matter. Our voices don't count. Companies do. If we are supposed to live in a democracy, that is straight up unacceptable. This means for UBI. Capitalists will find a way to nullify it. And we'll get back to the square we are but worse off. Robots and ai are inevitable. Either we adapt to our growing tool set with a change of system to benefit the all. Or we perish under the weight of our old system, that cannot handle such tools with humane care.

Besides, the technologies that either hypothetically would or could bring Terminators about would've been built by imperfect humans...and as such, nothing we humans create could ever be perfect. For the rest of my life I had excellent customer service skills, both internal and external. I learned to work as a member of a team. @@2persons /well, right back at you. You are also "so right." What many people don't realize about for-profit, publicly-owned corporations, especially transnational corporations is that the board members have a fiduciary (legally enforced) duty to maximize profits for the shareholders. Ridiculously high bonuses are often given for successful years and in many cases, successful quarters. This short-term reward system means that they have a powerful motivation to maximize profits even at the expense of the long-term viability of the company, the power/perception of its brand, etc. This can be seen in a myriad of industries. One of the dirty tactics currently used (and there are a plethora of them) is for a foreign company to purchase a company with a powerful, well-known and lauded brand. Then they shift production to a country with low-paided workers, were there are not regulations, and then they start producing crap. Only the customers don't know that this switch has been made. They keep buying what they think are quality products from a trusted brand. The profits start rolling in like waves. For example, several decades ago, my partner and I had dogs and after much research, we starting buying this ultra-respected, veterinarian-promoted, high-end dog food. About ten years later, both our dogs started to have kidney problems. When the vet asked what dog food we used, we proudly announced that we bought this super high-end dog food. The vet then informed us that the company was bought by a conglomerate overseas and radically changed the quality of the dog food. We were effectively slowly poisoning our dogs by using this dog food. When we got home, did some research, we were horrified. The vet was right and there were now warnings not to use this dog food because of all manner of toxins and garbage they were now using to produce this dog food. The original owners/producers of this dog food had an incredible payday by selling the company, becoming wealthy for the rest of their lives....... If a board and their CEO start to care about their workers, the environment, even the country in which they live, and any of this cuts into profits, they can not only be fired, but sued and even charged with crimes for doing so. For-profit, publicly-owned corporations, transnational or national, should be illegal. They are malevolent entities and are purposely designed to be so. The very first of these corporations was the East Indian Trading Company and many of their crimes, shady tactics and other horrible acts have been perpetrated by similar corporations ever since. These corporations are largely responsible for America sliding ever further down on every measure we use for countries, from infant mortality to education, every aspect of American's quality of life has been negatively impacted by these entities (except of course the ultra-wealthy who own stock in the company). America isn't the greatest country in the world anymore and most of the fault for this is these corporations: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z2HKbygLjJs.html .

Having Alexa read news to astronauts is a fantastic idea. Anytime they are feeling homesick, and want to come back to earth, they can just play a little news and be reminded of just how much better life is being trapped in a claustrophobic tube for 6 months where no one is showering or has washed their laundry.
