Southern Bell here, and that's my specialty my grandmother always had me in the kitchen with her, and baaaabbbyyy I'm so glad she did, love your videos you so cook just this southern girl, God Speed!
@Beautiful mil THERE IS SOUTHERN HISTORY BEHIND THE TERM SOUTHERN BELLE ,,IT MOST CERTAINLY WAS A TERM FOR A WEALTHY WHITE SOUTHERN WOMAN,,, IN THE SOUTH IF I SAID SLAVE WOULD YOU THINK WHITE PERSON OR BLACK PERSON, ,,, AS MY ATTORNEY DAUGHTER WOULD SAY. I REST MY CASE ,
@@TheRealHeavenlyHands TO EDUCATE A TERM USED INCORRECTLY,,,,IF I GO AROUND CALLING MYSELF A SLAVE A SLAVE ,🤔MAKES NO SENSE,, IM A WHITE WOMAN ,,,A SOUTHERN BELLE IS A TERM IN THE SOUTH USED FOR A WEALTHY WHITE WOMAN,,,,,PEOPLE CAN TRY TO CHANGE HISTORY BUT IT CAN NOT BE CHANGED IT HAPPENED THE WAY IT HAPPENED ,,,
@@LB-eh5fz ok that’s your definition. To here she’s a southern belle. Just because one person defined it and it made the dictionary doesn’t mean that’s all it can mean. Who’s to determine who qualifies . 🤦🏾♀️
you can do that too! it depends because I also grow greens in my garden and they can get really dust. also, if i buy from local farmers they tend to be dirtier cuz they dont tend to wash them like the big companies do
A lot of people don't even know there was a such thing as hot water cornbread. I remember telling someone on my block a while back that I had a taste for some hot water cornbread . She looks at me and asks..."what's that?"
@@gldnglow I'm in my 50's too, but as God is my witness, I had never ate Jiffy Mix until I left home...my mother always made cornbread from scratch. The regular buttermilk cornbread, as well as the hot water version. And she knew how to make a whole skillet full of hot water cornbread too... she'd just flip it over after a certain amount of time, and cook the other side.
Southern Sistah Big Mama hugging you real tight for the love you put in this good ol day recipe. You took me back to the happiest moments as a child in the kitchen cooking with Big Mama. Thx you, now pledge my chair I'm on the way In in the hoopty doing 95 lol. Yes Ma'am that sugar cuts that slight bitterness in the greens mo great memories thx you 💕
Hi 👋🏽 Camirra’s Kitchen. My sister introduced me to Hot water cornbread and showed me how she made it. She just passed June 16, 2022. This reminded me of her. I will try some of these recipes. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽💕
Lol... I just discovered your page last night I was so impressed I subscribed... I'm a very good cook but I do not know a really good way to make black eyed peas. My Grandma was the only one and she passed. I was born in Alabama but raised in Texas. Soul food is in my blood. But coming to Texas when I was 2 yrs old basically means I make homemade Tortillas waaay better than biscuits.
welcome and i hope you enjoy the recipes dear! i could learn to make a good tortilla. thats something i havent practiced yet. please try the recipes and let me know what you think :)
LOVE your channel! I’ve tried several of your recipes and they were all delicious! The best part is you sharing the love of JESUS 🙌🏼 Thank you!!! Numbers 6:24-26❤️
Smoked pig tails or smoked neck bones with those rutabagas.....oh boy!!!! Spoon over a plate of rice. Good eating! I love mustard greens. I'm so glad you got this hot water cornbread recipe. Everything you cook looks good Camirra. Thanks for sharing all these down home recipes.
Thanks for teaching us the basics like washing the greens thoroughly 😊 Some of us are still learning and now I have this information that is so essential for good, clean eating! I appreciate you! 😊
Looks delicious 😋☝🏾 good eating right there yes these dinners take me back to when I was a child leave church 💒 get out of your clothes 👗👛👒wash your hands🙌🏾 and wait for momma to invite you to the table blessings 💖.
Hallelujah! Someone finally showing up with the so forgotten Rutabaga! I was raised at the coast in southern NC. I'm 61 years old and my Mama taught me he how to cook these delicious veggies growing up and my husband's family had never eaten them. Now...let's just say they want me to cook their favorite dish now which is: boil some boneless market style spareribs. Remove and the ribs and throw in some rice with some of the leftover juice with it's seasonings. Then cook the cut up rutabagas in the remaining juice with some of the rib meat. After that is done, I make cornmeal dumplings and place on top of the cooked rutabagas and let me tell you, they will come back for more every time!!! Too, my family doesn't even want the cooked ribs barbequed when finished. All the seasonings I use when I cook them, it would be a southern Baptist sin to add anything to them. God Bless you and yours and I have just found your channel today. Love from NC!
I’m also a southern girl, Louisiana native. I love making different variations of hot water cornbread. I typically do 2cups of yellow corn meal and one half cups of flour, sugar, and salt. Love your channel. You represent the South well. I will be trying your recipe the next time I make a Sunday dinner!❤️
This is the way my mom and dad cooked We didn't call it soul food we just called it poor man food and i still eat the same today I love it don't know any other way of cooking Good cooking
This is an outstanding meal. You put so much love in your meals. Those greens are for sure deep south style! You made me almost cry, rutabaga is what my Grandmother used to make, 💔 God rest her soul ❤ never see or hear anyone talk about it anymore. Tfs these recipes!
Looks delicious. I’ve been wanting to try to make black eyed peas. Have never done so but do enjoy eating them so I think I’ll give them a try. Loved the ending to your video most of all. Jesus is King!
I use to beg my grandma to show me how to make hot water cornbread until I got it packed down now it's like science to me i think my grandmother's for teaching me that method rip to both ..😢🙏🏾thanks for sharing your love for cooking with us keep bringing those old school recipes!!🙏🏾💙
🦃over here! There is just something so comforting when it comes to eating southern meals. This turned out awesome! I plan to make one of your black eyed peas recipes.
These are the meals I grew up on in deep south Georgia. I love it. My family, not so much. Makes me sad that they are deprived. Now we are empty nesters and cooking has become so scaled back that way he seriously good stuff is a thing of the past. I do however, make a lot of hot water cornbread to accompany peas, beans and soup in the winter.
I’m so happy I found your channel!! I grew up in Nashville and moved to North Georgia in 1997. I will definitely be trying your recipes. Even an old Southern cook like me can learn a lot from other Southern cooks! I gave up pork years ago, and now that I’m using smoked turkey, my food is not quite as good as it once was. I love pigs, so it was an easy choice to go with 🦃 instead. God bless you!
I've never put celery in my beans but I'm gonna try it. I'm about to do some butter beans. When you added butter to your blk eyes peas and we can't ever forget cornbread 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾. That's definitely down south cooking 😋😋😋
I've only recently discovered these videos of your cooking and recipes and I am enjoying SO much!! I am definitely going to be trying some of your recipes and the techniques and the spices you use. Everything you prepare looks absolutely delicious and thanks for sharing your recipes and gift for cooking with the world 😊. God bless you too🙏
My grandmother made hit water cornbread at least once or twice a week. It was one of my favs as a child. I now make it for my grandbabies. My grandson must have it at every birthday dinner. I use yellow corn meal but I make it pretty much the same as yours. Sometimes I even add finely chopped green onion. I just found your channel today. Your dressing recipe is so similar to mine. It looked so delicious. I look forward to watching all your videos.
Yummy as always Camirra 😋🥰😘 I usually put a little brown sugar and a little bit of vinegar in my greens as well. Everything looks delicious. I hope all is well and this comment finds you in good health/spirits. Have an amazing and very positive day filled with peace and prosperity! Until your next video😘💜❤️💜❤️
Sis im a new subbie I was Craving some soul food sunday my Husband and i love rutabegas so i watched your recipes im Hooked keep them recipes coming thanks for sharing
No lie, I never understood hot water conr bread, I thought it was cooked in hot water. It was not something I grew up on but I am glad I finally watched some one make it. Thanks gurl
Gotta try this! 🐷🐖🐷. Have you ever added just a bit of vinegar to cut the bitterness of the greens, as you do for Brussels sprouts? If you don't do Brussels sprouts try making them by putting the desired amount in a pot/pan, and cover the sprouts in water & add approx. 1/2 to 1 tsp. vinegar, Boil sprouts (frozen) until tender, drain water off, and slice each sprout in half, sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper then add BUTTER! I haven't seen them on your channel but, I just found you 2 days ago & subbed. Thanks for sharing.
This is one we pretty much make the same way. Other than the hot water cornbread. I always add a touch of nutmeg to any cornbread and this one I don't use sugar nor powder. Thanks, looks good. 🐷 All day. 😁
Hey Camirra sorry that I have not watched in a long time life has been weird and I have been very busy but you videos are still the best keep up the great work and god bless
We lost my mom end of last year. Growing up, she made cornbread in a cast iron griddle. It was paper thin. My sister and I have talked and looked and we’ve yet to see anybody make it quite like that. All I remember her using was cornmeal, salt and water. Have you ever heard of this?
@@micheleyates3625 am I right that those are the only ingredients? Cornmeal, salt and water (on a greased griddle). The batter is really thinned down to spread across the whole surface. Somehow she flipped it because it was crispy on both sides. We ate with homemade vegetable soup. Or on the side with turnip greens, peas. We always had a big bowl of tomatoes and onions cut up together seasoned with salt and pepper. That was good eating! My mom was a good southern cook!
@@karenleach2032 Yes, those are the only ingredients. Cooked in an iron skillet but works in a non-stick skillet also. Boiling water stirred into cornmeal and salt. My mom would add about a tablespoon of flour to the cornmeal; she said that the flour helped to hold it together, but that is optional. Never used any leavening. That golden crust is the bomb! And using bacon fat adds the perfect flavor. Grandma and mom could make it perfect; sometimes mine does not come out as well. But I can flip it! Once it gets just right on the first side, I dampen my palm and flip the cornbread onto my hand and slip it quickly back into the pan (novices might rather use a plate)!! We usually spread it out into one large 'pone' and cut into wedges when done, but sometimes did individual smaller pones and used a turner to flip them. Like you, we ate it with greens, soup, beans. Her side of the family was from the northeastern part of the state (NC) and I have always wondered if preparing it this way was common to that region.
I want to try everything yummy 😋 😩 😫 😍 🙂 😊 😋 my dad Apostle Bernard Ricky Hall have the house smell bomb with the black eye peas 😋 😫 😜 🙂 😀 Lord Rest his Soul. Im going to try for sure. We love you cooking thank you for this!!
