One important detail for me as a kid was the music. If I remember right, the N64 has looped sections of the songs whereas the PS1 has the whole song being played. And you could even insert the PS1 CD in your stereo to play the tracks!

By the looks of it, PlayStation has more detailed textures (more storage space) but the n64 has double framerate and better video quality; by this alone the n64 seems the better version but I cannot be 100% sure without playing them

The N64 version actually only runs at about 20-30 FPS on real hardware.

@@revenge1205 less songs, significantly crushed music quality, and two less tracks. Other than that, I would definitely rate it above the PS version. This is genuinely what the N64 version looks like on real hardware.

Because it is played on an emulator with improved graphics and colors, not on a real console.

@@f1reb4ll77 same applies for the PS1 version, in this context. The N64 version has a generally cleaner and smoother look to it, but the PS version has more detailed and numerous textures.

The PlayStation version is the best because it has better quality soundtrack and it also features a Metallica song. The soundtrack in the Nintendo 64 version had to be compressed due to cartridge limitations and this is also the reason why it doesn’t have the Metallica song.

He did turn them off for some reason, because the game has a different track for each course on N64. And they are all permanently engrained in my brain. So yes, pretty poor showing for a comparison.

PS1: Better sound quality, more content, awesome soundtrack, FMV intro N64: Better Resolution, Better Visuals and Animations For Cars and Tracks, Higher Framerate I played the N64 version WAY more than the PS1 version, but I choose the latter purely for the additional content like tracks that are exclusive to the PS1 version like Exhaust Pipes and Volcano Blowout. The sound quality is also much better in the PS1 version it includes voiceovers and completed version of the soundtrack which was significantly neutered in the N64 due to limitation and not to mention the inclusion of Metallica’s Fuel as well as other songs not found in the N64 version. Don’t get me wrong I still love the N64 version, it holds a special place in my heart and has its own advantages against its counterpart, but if I had to choose one of the two I’d pick the PS1 version hands down.

I played the game on the N64. It was not for over a decade that I learned that there were two versions for two different consoles. I still occasionally play the N64 version on an N64 Emulator. I can't remember its name though.

Anyone know how comparable this is to the new hot wheels game? I loved playing this as a kid and debating whether to buy the series x version or not.

PS1 version. Despite lower fps, the environment feels richer and actual music. N64 smooth but boring repeating shading

The N64 was the more powerful platform, but the PS1 discs had more room. I always remember the differences in Vigilante 8 between N64 and PS1 in that N64 had the 3d models, but the audio, soundtrack, and effects were much more quality and uncompressed. The music kinda sucked for N64 while PS1 was the way to listen to it.

i say the PlayStation version is the better version cause the songs don't loop, the announcer has more voicelines when doing tricks and says the name of the cars when you pick hover over them, about 3 more extra tracks that got cut from the N64 version

n64 mejor pantalla principal, n64 mejor menu de seleccion, n64 mejor resolucion, n64 mejor tasa de frames, n64 mejor textura, n64 mejor iluminacion, distancia de dibujado similares, ps1 mejor soundtrack, ps1 tiene colores mas resaltados por lo que los efectos visuales sobresalen mas aunque la animacion sea la misma, los efectos de sonido en ps1 se escuchan mas reales

Another one that's fun to compare is vigilante 8 and vigilante 8 2nd offense when it comes to the psx version and the nintendo sixty 4 version. Also the difference between Dreamcast rush 2049 to the N64 rush 2049. And also the South Park versions. The N64 has better resolution than the psx.

The N64 version has a better video resolution, and I’m pretty sure higher FPS. Ps1 version has a bit more content but the video resolution is lowkey atrocious. But, I love both. I grew up with both.
