"What would you have me do" ---Rhaenyra to her Small Council. Almost verbatim what King Aegon asked of his mother, Alicent, directly before he went out and got himself spit roasted by his brother.
What Alfrid was saying about women not being trained in the art of war was addressing was a major problem with the whole Westeros culture. Women don't usually get taught military tactics and strategy of war. When Viserys named Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne, he should have IMMEDIATELY made sure she was taught EVERYTHING that a King would be called on to know. Including warfare and military strategy.
Alyn is definitely Corlys's "Sea Son". And, yes. Rhaenys was fully aware and was encouraging Corlys to acknowledge him. Bastards can be legitimized. We see saw Roose Bolton do it in GoT.
By royal decree. The ruling monarch has to be the one to legitimize it. Hard to do when there’s a civil war currently on to dispute the matter. Sure Rhaneyra can legitimize him, but everyone who supports the greens will still see him as a bastard since they’ll claim Rhaneyra is a false queen. Same happened with Roose and Ramsay. Sansa even threw it in Ramsay’s face that he was legitimized by Tommen Baratheon “Another bastard” meaning he wasn’t a king and couldn’t actually legitimize Ramsay.
They wouldn't be commoners at all. They would still be of noble blood, just with thinner Targaryen blood because they married other into noble houses instead of other Targaryens. There would basically be little difference between them and Jace, Luke, and Joffrey.
Helaena was never going to be considered because all of this is happening because they don't want Rhaenyra, a woman, as queen. Alicent was never going to be regent for the same reason. I did, however, enjoy watching Alicent get her power stripped from her. Now she knows how Rhaenyra feels.
I think you are right. Halana would be next in line! Aegon, Halana, and Aemond. Crazy, they really hate women. Oh and and really thought that was Rhanera's mom (I think her name was Emma) and not Damon's mom. It looked like the same actress. What is going on with Daemon? He's lost it completely. 🤯
I mean... their entire claim for Aegon stands on the basis that women cannot inherit. So propping up Heleana is basically saying that Rhaenyra is the rightful heir.
Welcome to this episode of "House of the Dragon" I'm pretty sure you're going to go back to "House of the Messy" It's living up to it. The removal of Aegon's armor. Sesska, have you ever accidentally over seared meat on a pan, specifically one that isn't "non-stick"? I imagine Aegon's armor and his skin have shared that meat's experience. 5:00 Your reference to Rhaenys having been "of the gentler sex" is not lost on me, but remember how the council disregarded her input, until her husband walked in and questioned the council about this dismissive behavior? Not one "man" in that council room was going to question The Sea Snake, Lord Corlys Velaryon. While they "have seen peace" and there have been "no wars" Corlys fought on land and sea to secure and maintain security against pirates, against The Crab Feeder, and other threats, and he has the name, the authority, the rank and title to issue commands the others can't ignore... Plus the reputation that if need me he can cut them down himself. 10:09- 10:19 "My favorite son." I was wondering how you'd react to that conversation. Reasonably "refined and ladylike, but nonetheless quite clear in the "ew, no, no no. EW!" category, without the unladylike mock retching. 11:14-11:25 "Very well, Your Grace." "You should address me as, 'My King'." To which, I would ask... "Why? You're Grace is the accepted and established appellation that both your own father and brother acknowledged. Do you present yourself as greater than your father, and every king before him?" [Yes, I admit, my head is probably separated from my neck at this point, but I have to say it.]
This! He's just wandering around a haunted castle and either drinking mushroom tea or being deliberately poisoned by the folks at Harrenhal. His storyline has become stale for me.
It's strange that Alicent takes issue with the fact that she was passed over in favor of Aemond when the Green's whole political point is that Rhaenyra was unfit to be the ruler because she was a woman and that it should only pass to male heirs. Did she forget??? Also she's now feels as useless as Aegon did last episode.
Whilst Otto prefers men ruling to women, on the grounds that he thinks the realm will better accept them, the Green point wasn't that women shouldn't rule. It was that the king's son should take precedence over the king's daughter. It was Otto himself who suggested Rhaenyra as heir back when Viserys had no living sons. He was fine with the idea that a daughter should come before a brother, if she were the more suitable heir.
It's not just the Green's who feel Rhaenyra shouldn't be heir to the throne. The Great Council of 101 AC (the same meeting that decided Viserys should be king) decreed that a male heir should always take precedence over a female one, regardless of the line of succession. All of the Westerosi nobles were gathered at that Great Council and almost unanimously agreed upon this.
@@Rocket1377 That's not true. They agreed that Viserys should be heir rather than Rhaenys (and, in the book, her kids). That's not the same thing as agreeing a woman should never be heir, by any means. The whole reason Rhaenyra rose to her position is because there was nothing in established law that prevented it, including the Great Council, which legally established nothing other than that a male heir was the overall preference of the thousand or more lords (not all attended) in that specific context. Also, the idea that it was almost unanimous is unsubstantiated. All we know is that the maesters refused to reveal the total, but that it was rumoured to be 20 to 1. Rumour means nothing and could easily be propaganda designed to shore up the patriarchal system. One of the main themes of the book is just how little can be known for certain due to the unreliability and frequent contradictions of the sources.
*Daemom* *Targaryen* I know many commenters are mad about the Daemon dream sequences and it feels like filler. They’re valid because how has his character improved? He’s having sexual thoughts of his mom he never knew. Daemon is still selfish and power hungry as he was prior to Harrenhal. I was so excited to finally see a live action Alyssa but not in the way I would imagine. Does Ryan Condal have an Oedipus complex about his own mother? And once I saw Clare Kilner as the director for this filler episode, I knew Daemon was in trouble. She and Sara Hess are out to assassinate George’s version of Daemon. If Book Daemon was a 9/10 character, TV Daemon is looking like a 6/10. Sara and Clare are making sure Daemon is as hated as Criston and that he’s no Paul Rudd. We saw this with Book Jon and Book Daenerys. By the time Game of Thrones finished, they were completely different characters from the books. Daemon did not kill Rhea Royce but it was assumed he did. But Sara and Clare made sure he was a wife killer, a creepy af uncle, a deadbeat father, and how he didn’t give a f*ck about Laena while having an erection problem. It’s reaching Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi bad. Women writers destroying a fan favorite character. By the time we get to the Battle Above the Gods Eye, don’t be surprised if Daemon has gay sex with Aemond before he kills that one-eyed bastard. It’s Gaymon & Gaymond. Ewan Mitchell already dressing up as if he’s bisexual and flaunting his penis. Probably has the same wardrobe as Ezra Miller. Hollywood turning badass characters into homosexuals. I saw this playing Final Fantasy VII Remake on my Steam Deck. When I first beat the game’s main story, I felt some sexual tension between Sephiroth and Cloud as if Sephiroth tried to seduce Cloud by whispering into his ear. And Chapter 9 when Cloud had to dress up as a girl and dance next to Andrea makes me question Cloud’s sexual orientation. I give Regent about a C+. Maybe the worst episode of the series after having the best one last week. Still undecided if it’s worse than The Burning Mill. Yeah, it probably is. I didn’t expect much from it anyway because I knew this would be tamer after the epicness we saw from last week’s episode. I expected it to be quieter and tamer. But we really didn’t get much from this episode. The only WTF moment came from that Daemom scene with his MILF. While the Harrenhal dream sequences are getting stale and the writers needs to wrap that up as it seems as pointless as Jaime and Bronn in Dorne back in GOT’s S5 and Daemon isn’t exactly changing for the better, I do like the chemistry Daemon and Alys Rivers are developing. People are saying Alys is another one of Daemon’s illusions. They obviously never read the book. But I have noticed nobody else seems to interact with Alys except Daemon. Some The Sixth Sense vibes. The actress who portrays Alyssa Targaryen is gorgeous. Emeline Lambert is her name. From the drawings, she’s not that beautiful. I want to see more of her. I want to see Alyssa take Daemon on dragon rides on Meleys. I hope in some episodes, I would love to see flashback scenes when Viserys and Daemon were younger. I want to see live action versions of Baelon and Alyssa taking their two sons on dragon rides. I want to see a young Rhaenys bonding with Meleys after Alyssa died and after Meleys rejected Daemon. Collider: “He has been wasted in a season only interacting with himself when, in the source material, Fire & Blood, he was a loyal force to be reckoned with in the Dance of the Dragons. Wasting more time on Daemon’s psyche is old news and wasting Smith’s talent.” Alyssa being the free spirit is who Rhaenyra used to be. But Rhaenyra grew up and it felt Daemon never did. Rhaenyra is becoming closer in personality to her father as a ruler. Doesn’t want trouble. But it’s weird how she’s very much a peacemaker but then she wants to be part of the war but the men around her wouldn’t let her. There’s no Syrax fighting another dragon in Fire & Blood. From the Episode 6 trailer, it looks to be about finding more dragonseeds and not the Battle of Gullet yet. I’m thinking Ep. 7 will give us that. I hope Ep. 6 makes the viewers grow to love Jace to make fans cry when Ep. 7 does happen. I know Criston Cole haters can’t wait for Butcher’s Ball. Season 2’s penultimate episode may go down even better than The Red Dragon and the Gold. Gullet has the most dragons we will ever see onscreen in this dance. Season 2 Character Rankings 1. Daemon 2. Aemond 3. Rhaenys 4. Rhaenyra 5. Jace 6. Aegon 7. Otto 8. Alicent 9. Corlys 10. Baela Honestly, Daemon and Aemond should not be in my top 5. How the HBO wrote Daemon this season feels wasted and pointless. The most popular character should be Rhaenyra. But if you know how F&B unfolds, how you feel about Rhaenyra will change at the end. Non-book readers will complain of the change but that’s how Rhaenyra was written. So don’t get too attached. You will end up hating all the characters except for maybe Rhaenys, Helaena, and Baela. Maybe even Daeron the Daring too. Rhaenys and Viserys are probably the two best characters of this entire series. I will stick to Team Daemon regardless how HBO writers have made him much worse than how GRRM wrote him. Season 2 does have the best characters as women in Rhaenys and Rhaenyra should go No. 1 and 2. Similar to how FF7 Remake made Cloud and Sephiroth worse but improved Tifa, Aerith, and Yuffie. Season 2 Episode Rankings 1. E4 The Red Dragon and the Gold 2. E2 Rhaenyra the Cruel 3. I didn’t like the ending to it either with Arya’s fan service moment and it being way too dark. But credit for the effort. It was still an intense episode with certain characters dying (Jorah, Theon, Beric, and Lyanna). Whatever HOT D’s 2x8 episode and the Battle Above the Gods Eye episode will be called, they both have a really good chance making my top 10. Daemon vs. Aemond / Caraxes vs. Vhagar is really what most fans are waiting for. That and Butcher’s Ball for the “billions” of Criston Cole “fans” out there. 😜 Ranking GOT & HOT D Seasons 1. GOT S4 2. GOT S6 3. GOT S3 4. HOT D S1 (for now) 5. HOT D S2 6. GOT S1 7. GOT S2 8. GOT S5 (this gets underrated a bit) 9. GOT S7 10. GOT S8 While Game of Thrones S1 and S2 were great, it didn’t get going until Blackwater near the end of S2. But budgets didn’t get bigger until S4. I thought S4 was the first year we got more action. GOT S1 episode budget: $6M HOT D S1 episode budget: $20M At it’s peak, Game of Thrones was the more exciting and arguably the better series. House of the Dragon is more Succession meets The Crown. But the first two seasons of HOT D seems to be more exciting than GOT’s first two seasons because we do get dragons right away, the bigger budgets, and the production crew being much smarter and wiser.
If you're going to give a backhanded compliment, don’t bother. That woman is no where near her 50's. Next time, stop your sentence at "gorgeous". If you didn't realize that's what you were doing, then please remember this as a life lesson.
