You make it seem like a dragon goes up to the targaryens and chooses a rider lol. I read the fire and blood book and the only time a dragon refused the rider was with Aera Targaryen. However, she was still successful in claiming a dragon but that dragon wouldn't listen to command... probably because she was a little girl claiming the biggest dragon. So daemon younger daughter probably wanted to wait until she got older to claim vhagar, so she doesn't have the same fate as Aera. But Aemond being the snake he is, claimed her first. My point: as long as the person has targaryen blood then the riderless dragon will most likely accept you. In other words, the dragon doesn't get to decide

In terms of diplomacy, he stole the dragon from house Valaryon. If Aegon died in his youth and someone took Sunfire without a negotiation with the crown, there would be a big problem.

@@TheKillaShowdiplomacy? No house has any right to a dragon? Where was the diplomacy when Laena took Vhagar from House Targaryen, from Barlow the Brave?

@@rudyhernandez7128 dragons literally rejected riders all the time. If you read the book, do you remember the dragon seeds? So many of them died trying to claim a dragon. Dragons are EXTREMELY picky about who they bond with. That’s why the Targaryens have so much power. Like that’s the whole point.

I disagree with your last sentence. If you read the book then you would know a riderless dragon almost never denies a person with targaryen blood. So I think it's safe to say Vhagar would have accepted Rhaena based on history. Again there is terms of conditions that have to be met. Firstly, the person needs targaryen blood. Secondly, the dragon needs to be riderless. Name a time when a riderless dragon deny a targaryen... I'll wait. You could say Aera but technically she still succeeded in claiming it. So as long as those two conditions are met then I think it's safe to assume based on the previous 130 years of dragon claiming.

@@rudyhernandez7128 Nothing of what you wrote has anything to do with my last sentence. There was no assumption of dragons passing down through a family tree. The children are acting as if Rhaena had a right to bond with Vhagar when that has never been how dragon ridership worked. When a dragon had no rider, it was fair game for any dragonless Targaryen. Like I said, if that's how they worked, then you could argue that Laena stole Vhagar from Baelon's line and Aemond took her back.

@@Adamantium93 Maegor waited to take his father dragon. Aegon (the uncrown) took his father Aneys dragon. So if there a person waiting then it will most likely be claimed by descendants. But if everyone from that line already has dragons then it's fair game. Laena didn't steal from Baelon line because every one from Baelons line already had dragons... not to mention, Rhaena is from baelon line lol. Did you forget who fatherd her? If it's fair game then Aemomd wouldn't be sneaking around at night to take a dragon. Why else would he sneak around? And everything of what I wrote had to do with your last sentence lol. You said "there's no assumption Vhagar would be Rhaenas because that's not how dragons work" History says you're wrong about that. As long as the dragon is riderless then it will almost always accept a Targaryen who doesn't have a dragon. So it's safe to assume that vhagar would have accepted her.

@@rudyhernandez7128 You're misreading my last sentence. I meant no assumption that Rhaena would have ownership or rights to Vhagar. And the examples you gave (Maegor and Aegon Uncrowned) are the exceptions that prove the rule. They are literally from a time when the only Targaryens are a single family. If the dragons were heirlooms and passed by birthright, then Maegor would not have a legitimate claim to Balerion--the Black Dread would have been Aneys', and by right Aegon the uncrowned's. Maegor would have had to wait until Vhagar was riderless to claim her, or convinced Aneys to give him Balerion.

Yeah, Daenerys represents a river-goddess in the books or "Kali". The surviving fire is literally seen as a miracle.

in terms of how everyone in the universe is gonna treat that act, yes you can. While it's true that dragons have minds of their own that are smarter than normal animals, they're still "owned" by their riders within this society. Plus, he knew exactly what he was doing. Intentions matter.

@@elliedavies7138 they are not owned by their riders they are a dragon! lol they maybe could if they didnt lose all the knowledge and sorcery from old valaryia.

@@etc8217 in terms of how society views it they are linked in such a way that "steal" would be the correct term to use for someone persuading a dragon to leave it's rider. In the same way someone would steal someones husband or wife by making them cheat on them, it's obviously not a legal thing, but the term steal is still appropriate.

true and not just in the middle ages, it was pretty much everytime other in human history across most civilizations indepently of each other.
