House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 Was LEGENDARY! First Time Reaction 

Rhaenyes had too many opportunities to live. She could have killed all the greens at the coronation, she could have agreed to Daemon's request for them to double team Vhagar and they likely would have won, or she could have retreated after her and Vhagar killed Aegon and Sunfyre. She was bound and determined for this to happen.

So here it is yeah when Vhagar and Aemond took down Sunfryre with Aegon and she was leaving she looked back she knew at that moment AEMOND is dangerous very very dangerous and here is the thing right when great dragonriders and dragons who have experienced combat fight/clash or ride together/dance like Daemon and Laena did in season 1 they can instantly tell how good the other is and all just like how duelers and swordsman can have those convos in a fight after clashing swords so she knows that Aemond is a terrible threat and their best time to beat him is while he doesnt have enough combat experience that was only Aemonds 2nd Dragon fight right and after each fight the bond between rider and dragon deepens they synergize better and all so letting him go then would only make him stronger she saw a chance to stop this jaugernot who only gets better with time there and then she knew it was slim but took the chance and either she or Daemon have the best shot of getting Aemond the goal when fighting Aemond is not Vhagar but to unseat aemond or burn him which is what she tried when she went under because Meleys is more agile but VHAGAR BEING A SUPREME WAR VETERAN CAUGHT ON AND LATCHED ON TO MELEYS LEG BEFORE she could get behind her and hurt Aemond and after that clash she was disorented and she was leaving you saw that she was flying past the castle over the bay towards dragonstone and as she was leaving she was searching for Vhagar but Aemond being a prodigy used the castle to hide Vhagar just like he did at storms end so Luke didnt see him when he landed its tough to watch but her actions where 100% valid

Rhaeyns could not leave because the Greens army was still advancing and Vhagar was still there. If she left, word would get out to Rhaenyra's allies that her dragon riders leave battles and the allies have to face the Greens large army and dragons on their own. Rhaenyra's allies would stop supporting her.

If she had managed to take out Aemond and Vhagar she would have won the war right there and then, she would have killed both Aegon/Sunfyre and Aemond/Vhagar, leaving the Greens with Helaena/Dreamfyre, who has no war experience and not in any way ready to fight after the murder of her son, and Daeron/Tessarion who is young, inexperienced and all the way in Oldtown, while the Blacks would still have Rhaenys/Melys, Rhaenyra/Syrax, Daemon/Caraxes, all with years of experience and capable dragonriders, not to mention the numerous other dragons at their disposal. If it went just a bit better for her the war would be over at Rooks Rest.

Fr, if she crippled Vhagar the rest of the war would be easy work.

And she manage to take it down, for a while. So it's pretty calculated decision. Risky, but not imposible.

Also fleeing the battle would send a message to the rest of the realm, the Queen faction you sworn into would abandon you when the battle got tough. That’s not good.

I think she also didn’t wanna leave the soldiers of rook rest defenseless with vhagar there

@@livelovelife32I think in just a pure 2v1 dragon fight they could definitely win, although likely at the cost of one of them cause they’d have to outmaneuver vhagar while she’s distracted by one of them. However them attacking kingslanding with all its defenses plus vhagar, no I don’t think so.

​@livelovelife32 In the books, it was hinted that if Vhagar went 1v1 with Meleys then Meleys might have won, it's only because of the presence of Sunfyre is what made it difficult.

Meleys didnt throw vhagar, both spirald to the ground gripping eachother and releasing as they neared the ground. Meleys was younger and recovered slightly quicker than old vhagar. Neither was damaged in the fall.

The was Rhaenys and her dragon gave each other that last look, was so sad....

She felt she owed it to Rhanerya to try and take Vhaegar down because its exactly what Rhanerya tried to do last episode when she risked her life to talk to Alicent. You take out Vhagar you win the war

Nah it wasn't about all that. She stayed to fight because they were already losing support with every castle that Cole takes and this was the keep of a member of the Black council. If word got out that she was sent to protect that guy, but ran away the first time she could the rest of their supporters would be hesitant to stay loyal. Daemon is having enough issues rousing an army in the river lands and if word got out that their most experienced rider runs like a coward, the river lands would not stand with him. She also knew that she at least had a chance to do some damage, but as soon as she saw it was a 2v1 she knew she was gonna die.

Caraxes is the strongest Dragon in the blacks arsenal, Daemon is the only dragon rider who had seen war before this episode, and he is a better rider then Rhaenys, Caraxes agility is his biggest strength.

@@kylemma33 Vhagars attack was intentionally sneaky while Maleys attacked head on and maneuvered to a blind spot that's is experience. I give Aemond credit for using strategy though, Vhagar is larger and slower makes sense to use her that way.

She couldn’t retreat in the books because it was a 2v1, they trapped her, both aegon and Aemond made the plan. Idk why the show went this route

In the book Vhagar was not hidden and Rhaenys did not have the chance to retreat she was attacked by both Aemond and Aegon it was said in the book that she would’ve had a chance to win against Aemond and Vhagar if they were alone but it was a 2v1

If the showrunners didn't decide that Vhagar could hide behind a small castle, I think Rhaenys and Meleys could've injured Vhagar more before dying. Even in the book, it's stated Aemond and Aegon didn't want to attack Rhaenys and Meleys alone because they didn't think they could beat them alone. So they surprised her together. In the show they deviated and made it seem like it was a trap set by just Aemond and Cole, and Aegon was being an idiot. Even then, the struggle between Meleys and Sunfyre led to Sunfyre and Aegon being downed after Vhagar's attack, and Vhagar was taken down initially in the fight between Meleys.

Vhagar did not have much chance of chasing down Meleys. Lucerys and little Arrax would probably have been able to outfly Vhagar, who is quite slow, if it hadn't been raining so hard with terrible winds. Meleys is one of the fastest dragons alive.

I’d rather believe Rhaenys knew that Vhagar was the biggest threat so she chose to sacrifice herself in hopes to either hurt either Vhagar or Aemond. She knew she had no chance of killing Vhagar, but she could at least do something. Reducing it to her feeling hurt by Corlys’ bastard sons diminishes her sacrifice. In the entirety of season 2, she supports Rhaenyra’s aversion to war and after Rhaenyra’s confession she met with Alicent kinda solidifies Rhaenys’ decision to fully support Rhaenyra which why she chose to sacrifice.

@@aglioeoilo a sacrifice is a sacrifice no matter what. It only meant that she was ready to die. Either way the whole purpose of her continual attack was to hurt vhagar but you could see her demeanor what her resolve was. Thats just based on my interpretation.

Team black but it is frustrating that they haven't really took action except for rhanys but I feel like in the second half of the show the blacks are gonna more centered and start to make their plans. Greens are making plans but they are dysfunctional. Aegon killed innocent rat catchers, losing morale with his people and firing Otto who is probably the smartest one on the greens, making Cole hand even though he barley does his job, Alicent and aemond don't respect aegon at all. Aegon getting on his dragon drunk when that wasn't the plan. Aemond trying to kill aegon. Aegon is now burnt.
