Such a surreal song, it goes great with the hypnotic otherworldly lunarians. The harvesting of gems feels like an elaborate religious ceremony and is so creepy, yet you can’t help but feel drawn in.
you feel like it's creepy and otherworldly but it's really just a play on Balinese Gamelan music which you're not familiar with because you were born and raised in western cuture. i feel the same way though
they aren't really "otherworldly", infact, they are human spirits -- EVERY sentient creature (specifically Gems, Admirabilis and Lunarians/Moon People) in the universe of Houseki no Kuni is composed of humans (remains) and underwent the process of evolution on their own.
I started this anime with quite the skepticism, I didn't know anything about it before starting it and the only reason why I watched it was because it was labeled as a mistery anime and I was running out of things to watch from this genre. After finishing it I felt pretty mad and only because this is such a hidden gem that deserves a LOT more the recognition than it has. I haven't enjoyed an anime series like HnK in YEARS. I really hope that it gets a second season.

Wow it is one of the mosy disturbing songs I have ever heard tho, it really doesn't do anything. The sounds in 0:18 are weirdly harmonious that it feels just not right. And I LOVE IT

The theme is definitely eerie and includes elements used in Tense/Horror soundtracks. The contrast created by the sudden bizarre, somewhat uplifting melody does the job well, and the instruments make this even more unsettling. That build up and the hard-to-describe tribal/folkloric atmosphere is like a ceremony for a sacrifice. Which hey, it's basically a theme about moving statues hunting down the protagonists on a regular basis, what's not creepy about that? From the rhythm to the sounds themselves, everything was designed to make you feel anxious, and it does a good job at it if you ask me. It's a bit entrancing, fitting the Lunarians and their dancing perfectly. This track is really good and the most memorable alongside Cinnabar's if you ask me.
Dude I felt so asdfghjkl when I heard the Gamelan here Amaze Despite the fact that the tuning is closer to a Major scale in sound the way the strings complete the chord makes it eerie while still depicting the bright aura of the Lunarians It gives off this mystical, mysterious and eerie vibe
I couldn't imagine how mind blowingly obliterated I would have been seeing this anime as a kid. These Scenes genuinely encapsulates the unworldly feeling to new heights pure brilliance was this ost. This show will undoubtedly live on.
I'm not too sure but this sounds like traditional bali music, the bells part. And even the lunatians look like they're dressed in traditional bali clothing. I'm not from bali but the look and music does look familiar in some way.
Man, I remember that they went to the Moon and interacted with the Lunarians, one thought sprung up on my head and I asked "Why do you guys have to be scary every time you pop up? Was that really necessary??"
I need to rewatch houseki now just too see the scenes where the sunspots show up because i remember when i first started watching it i got chills, this music is js so good omg
It's a dated reference for most, but those who have played Secret of Mana (aka Seiken Densetsu 2) will recognize an eerie, discordant tone that resembles that of "Ceremony" from its OST. Incidentally, those who like the OST for Houseki No Kuni will probably like those from any in the Seiken Densetsu series, BTW. Similar tone of bittersweet wonder.

I'm Indonesian, Javanese people. If you hear similiar music like this especially in forest, ocean, or when you hiking a mount in Java island, first you must stop your move and try to think positive, don't tell it to your friend or they will scared. Then pray to the God for your safety, stay focus. Make sure the music gone then continue your step/journey and be humble & polite.
Hearing this is like hearing Death's whistle from Puss in Boots because it makes you feel FEAR in a situation you didn't expect it to even play, and you connect it with the threat appearing with it after listening to it several times. I instinctively went "oh shit" when the sunspot soundtrack played while Phos was adjusting to their new alloy arms.
