I joined a body building competition among the different branches of my gym where i am a member. I was 60 yoand the other 23 candidates were in their 20s and 30s but that made it more challenging for me. I trained for 8 months with a personal trainerin the gym who is also my personal trainer everytime I go to thegym. Ialso had a dietician who knows how food will transform your body. I didnt think of winning. I just told myself to enjoy the experience. Anyway I won! And i was in the national papers of my gym’s half page ad for a year in a bikini with the caption STRONG AND SEXY AT 60 ! During my training I trained 5 days a week. By the way I only started going to the gym when I was 50 because I had sciatica and my dr told me to hit the gym and get a personal trainer and tell him I need to strengthen my legs, my core and my back because they hold the spine. That started my journey with working out and with the results like a lean and toned body I got addicted to working out!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Hi! Love reading your story. I was wondering how your body changed in those 8 months? Did you put muscle on? And is so, how much muscle did you gain? I'm your age and want to know what's possible as far as gaining muscle in our 60's. Thanks you so much! Hope to hear back from you. And congrats!

@@wendym2544 yes I gained muscle all over my body. And because I never stopped strength training till now that I am 69, I still have a toned body. Also because i am also a pole dancer now at 69

I love working out! Thanks for this inspirational show. Im 65 and at about 60.someones car ran into ours. It broke my back so i need to work out with caution now. Its a bit of a juggle so i just dont over do it. But i started more serious workout after a bone loss test and i worked out rather than medicine, for stronger bones. Thanks for sharing ❤

Great topic & cast ! I'm 56 and most articles will only deal with senior beginners programs. When really gaining/keeping muscle is totally an issue when you've been strength training for decades. I actually gained strengh , but volume is so hard to maintain, especially when the joints can't handle so much weight... knee osteo arthritis especially leaves me stuck with high reps. Would like some tricks to go around this...

For those o f us who can’t tolerate dairy, a great source of plant-based protein powder is rice protein. It has been found to offer the same benefits as whey protein in terms of muscle gains and recovery.

A bit high in carbs, and potentially high in arsenic. 3rd party testing is good way to know. I prefer and recommend pea protein

@Flipping50TV yes because they eat species appropriately. Sadly it is the traditional vets who are only educated by Hills Science Diet and teach pet parents that a processed diet is the healthy way to go. Dogs lives are many years shorter due to dry feed in bags with synthetics. It is no different with people consuming high heat processed food with synthetics. People can at least speak when they feel sick. Dogs cannot, but a dog with allergies, skin, behavioral problems, as well as smelly stools are all signs of a bad gut. A holistic vet and raw diet is the only way to feed a healthy dog. Thanks for listening. 🥰🐾

I struggle struggle struggle with staying consistently in calories. (Age 59/172lbs/5’81/2); I w/o 4-5 times a week, track my food in MFP, but am constantly set back by unplanned social event or spontaneous family get together or just the habit of eating more. Ant tips on getting off the nutritional rollercoaster mentally or physically? (PS: I,m not much of a cook so when I do prep it’s a lot of the same and gets mentally fatiguing-but I WANT this!)

It is indeed, I started myself a couple of months ago, Debra has some great workouts that you can muscle build with. There are other channels, but I like this channel a lot as I find the workouts more appropriate for the way I would like to look. I currently do a combination of workouts when I can, but Debra’s arm exercises are my go to for arms. I also think she looks amazing. You can do this x

HRT should also be discussed as not just testosterone for muscle but for health. Night sweat, dry skin, bone health, brain health and more. It’s not taking steroids for muscle it’s creams mostly. It’s very beneficial for most. Not for all for various reasons. 😊

What are the thoughts of intermittent fasting? I'm not a competitive body builder but instead a 60 year old artistic/figure skater on roller skates which also involves strength training among other types of training. Enjoyed the info. I go for clean eating and no supplements except for Spirulina capsules.

I suggest for all students and clients (with the exception of someone with adrenal fatigue) a minimum of 12 hours overnight and 3 meals no snacks. That's a start for MANY people that will be gamechanging. Extending to 14, 15 or 17 hours ocassionally but never same thing every day, can help maintain metabolic flexibility for someone not seeing optimal results from what they're doing. For women, I suggest never exercising fasted, always during fed window and starting the eating window in the morning so that cortisol is not a runaway train for you that ends up breaking down muscle. The biggest benefit of IF is the gut reset and the benefits if you re-feed as you should with high protein to stop muscle breakdown.

Hey all, first-time listener and former amateur bodybuilder 30 years ago (stopped due to injuries, grad school, divorce, and relocation). Would like to get back on stage one more time before I exit this planet. Have had a rotator cuff repair on one shoulder 30 years ago and am desperate to avoid the same surgery on the other shoulder (full-thickness cuff tear) that has reared its ugly head since I've been back in the gym hitting the weights regularly for the last 5-6 months. Any thoughts on how to work around the need to lift heavy to hypertrophy yet not completely blow out my remaining shoulder? And I've tried the 'let it rest until it heals' route so need some other answer. My gut tells me the answer is surgery but at 60-something, the outcomes aren't guaranteed and I have to work several more years so I need a fully functioning right arm...thanks in advance.

Ugh. I hear you… and gave you got the mri image to know where you are? Tried stem cell ? IF surgery… I’ve got to believe technology in surgery is better now than 30 yrs ago. You’re wiser with nutrition(and mindset) now than then…

Just curious as far as taking canned Tuna along, is that something you don’t advise? It’s usually what is easiest for me to bring along at least 2 days a week for protein at lunch.
@Flipping50TV

I suggest for myself too - I know it's easy... but it's high in mercury. Even "safe" tuna is high in mercury. Canned salmon is much safer. I'd do that in rotation at least.

Not to sound like an alarmist but I used HRT most years between ages 40- 62 and was diagnosed with breast cancer. The HRT that I used in the last 10 years or so was a topical compounded estrogen/testosterone. Each individual needs to discuss HRT in detail with their physician. I can’t say for sure that it was the HRT, but I don’t have any direct family members that have had breast cancer diagnosis.
